"h..how is this possible?" Quinn mumbled while gripping the scoring device in his hand. Nothing seemed to make sense anymore as he stared at Wyatt's name on the display.
[Twite 4.5 stars]
"This is why I always told you to have more patience, if you had really paid attention to the boy's trial of endurance you would've known he succeeded in getting 5 stars" Lachlan stated
"But how..."
Suddenly Quinn had an idea and rushed over to his desk to grab a different device. This new device was responsible for displaying the exact scores of everyone undertaking the trial, after a full minute of scrolling through names he finally landed on Wyatt's trial of endurance.
[total time: 96 minutes]
"Ah, so that's what happened, now I understand" With a smile on his face Quinn nodded finally understanding the situation.
Unlike Quinn, both Alan and Wyatt still had no idea why his final score was boosted up. While Wyatt was waiting for the middle aged man to continue explaining his discovery, Alan got impatient and immediately asked him for answers.
"Tower Master! Can you tell us already!"
"Hm? oh sorry I forgot about you all, the answer is pretty simple actually!" With a swing of his hand, the device with Wyatt's detailed scores appeared in front of everyone.
Since Wyatt knew very little about how the trial of endurance worked, Quinn decided to explain in more detail "The Trial is designed to go up by half a star every 10 minutes, If you check that boy's total time you will see 96 minutes. Since his score was between two different possible scores, the tower naturally rounded his score to the closest score which luckily happened to be 5 stars!"
"I see, now everything makes sense" Wyatt replied nodding his head. truthfully he didn't care much whether his score was 4 or 4.5 stars. Now that he understood the situation he was ready to move on.
Wyatt had actually been very lucky in his scoring, even with a perfect score in his endurance trial his average score was only 4.3 stars. If any of his scores had been just half a star worse his overall score would've been rounded down to 4 instead of 4.5.
"By the way, where are all the trial takers?" Wyatt asked while taking a seat next to the old man who interrupted them earlier.
Lachlan chuckled a bit before reaching out his hand and patting the boys head "By now everyone else should've been teleported outside the tower already. Most rewards are given directly from the trial system, Only you and that sword girl from earlier were directly summoned to this room"
"Speaking of which it should be about..."
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK
"Ah, Hurry in Meriam you are just on time!" Waving his hand, Lachlan opened the door for the new arrival to enter.
Looking over to the entrance Wyatt examined the young woman.
With her pitch black hair tied back into a long braid, and stunning emerald eyes, Meriam could've easily been popular no matter where she decided to work. As she walked into the room Wyatt could feel a natural calming aura as well as confidence extruding from her body, this startled him because he actually couldn't feel any mana in her body at all.
"Lord Quinn, I've brought the skill book you requested" giving a slight bow to the tower master, Meriam placed a small wooden box onto the office table.
"book? huh? I don't remember requesting anything" Quinn looked up at his assistant in confusion.
"hahaha don't worry, that would be me! I ordered Merry to bring this book up after I watched this boy's earlier trials" Lachlan announced before standing up and walking over to the desk
"Grandpa Lach!" turning, Meriam wrapped her arms around the old man, hugging him as a greeting.
Wyatt was pretty confused by this change since Meriam's darker skin complexion was completely different from anybody else he had met inside the game so far. He even suspected that she was a foreigner from a faraway territory.
Noticing Wyatt's curious gaze, Lachlan sent him a quick telepathic message explaining the story.
Wyatt's initial guess that Meriam wasn't a native of this kingdom was actually completely correct. It turned out that about 30 years ago while exploring a neighboring empire, Quinn had accidentally stumbled upon a village that was under attack by demonic beasts.
Quinn managed to kill a couple of the beasts, but in the end, it was still far from enough to save the village. After the battle was over, Quinn decided to forage through the rubble in hopes of finding anything. That was the day he stumbled upon an unconscious injured 6 year old Meriam and decided to take her in as his assistant.
Wyatt was quite surprised to hear the story, but after quickly remembering her interactions so far everything seemed to make sense. After entering Meriam only referred to Quinn as Lord Quinn instead of by his official title of Tower Master, respect is very important in the world of primal online and such actions could easily be seen as rude if the individuals aren't extremely very close.
The whole grandpa thing also made a lot more sense when he considered that Quinn referred to the old man as master.
Now with his confusion out of the way, Wyatt was more curious about the skill book she delivered. Standing up he walked over to the office table joining everyone else.
"You said you ordered this book after watching my trials?" he asked while giving the wooden box a curious look. Even while the book was completely covered he could still feel a weird hot energy from within it.
Lifting the box with his mana and delivering it to Wyatt's hands, Lachlan explained "Poison skills are very rare, after looking through the trials treasury I only found this one. Luckily none of our pupils have a poison affinity, so I think it would be more useful in your hands anyways.
Opening the box, Wyatt's face was immediately met with a heat wave of energy, causing him to start coughing while attempting to cover his face.
Finally managing to peek at the contents within the box Wyatt was ecstatic
[Acidic Touch] [B Rank]
"Ah, actually there's one more reward!" Lachlan suddenly announced.
