Capítulo 49: Thanks For The Help (part 2)
Wyatts' eyes widened in shock as he witnessed the projectile pierce through the chimeras' dark red scales. At first, he was confused about how the simple looking shot managed to succeed while both his and Lukas's weapons could barely scratch the boss.
It wasn't until he took a closer look at the projectile that Wyatt realized it wasn't actually as simple as he originally thought. The body of the projectile was in the shape of a long thin cylinder with a sharp needle point on the end.
Originally, Wyatt thought the projectile was needlessly long, but he soon realized that the cylinder was actually made of two separate parts. When the needle point made contact with the chimeras scales, the latter half of the cylinder would activate some sort of boost which helped force the needle through the tough scales.
Considering Hector's class was named Hunter, Wyatt thought it made a lot of sense for it to involve some sort of armor piercing abilities.
"Drain Shot!" Hector shouted out while activating the skill he was preparing earlier.
AUUGHHHH
Just a few seconds later, the cylinder of the projectile started faintly glowing black before constantly expanding and shrinking over and over again. The skill was very uncomfortable to look at, with the constant changes reminding Wyatt of a beating heart pumping blood.
Ergus continued to scream out in agony for a few seconds before eventually turning his enraged eyes to glare at Hector.
GRRRRRR
Thrusting his tail forward, the boss was now completely determined to kill the annoying hunter before fighting anyone else. Using drain shot combined with his armor piercing ability was extremely exhausting for Hector, this resulted in him not having enough energy to properly move out of the way of the incoming tail attack.
CLINK
Luckily, before the tail could make an impact, Lukas appeared with his sword to deflect the chimeras tail away.
"Good job! Now get behind Tim, I'll take over from here"
Charging forward in order to buy Hector enough time to regroup with the rest of the team, Lukas directly engaged the boss in a one vs one battle.
SHINK CLANK SHINK
The sounds of sword and claw colliding continued to ring out around the laboratory. Lukas knew that he couldn't continue to waste his energy on these pointless attacks, so he chose to use one of his other skills in hopes to get the upper hand.
"Scorching Frame!"
Following Lukas's shout, Weird orange tattoo patterns started wrapping around his body. Since the Boss had a strong resistance against fire damage, Lukas was going to use his fire element to strengthen his own body from the inside.
Originally, he had no plans to use this ability because his lacking control resulted in the skill being very painful to use. But, given the current situation, Lukas knew he couldn't afford to go easy.
With the addition of Scorching Frame, Lukas soon gained an advantage over the boss in terms of speed. Taking this opportunity he started giving his team commands.
"Hector, stop focusing on the drain shot for now! Shoot as many armor-piercing Projectiles at the boss as you can" Lukas shouted before sliding under the chimeras tail and swinging at his back.
CLANK
"Healer! From now on only use mana recovery skills on me" After giving his commands, Lukas continued to clash against the chimeras boss while waiting for the right opportunity.
Luckily he didn't have to wait long, because Hector was already prepared with a wave of armor piercing projectiles. Unlike the mana drain skill, these attacks didn't drain a lot of mana, so Hector could use them quickly in order to give Lukas a good opportunity.
SWISHH SWISHH
Over the next dozen seconds, Hector launched a handful of projectiles at the chimera. This time however he didn't have Tim keeping the boss in place, so only 3 of the shots successfully landed.
2 of the shots landed on the front of the beast. With one being on his stomach region, and the other piercing through his right shoulder. The final shot was the most successful, managing to land just below the chimeras neck on his back.
Now with parts of the chimeras scales destroyed, Lukas finally had a target to aim for.
Using his increased speed, Lukas started targeting these damaged areas repeatedly. Slowly he was draining the boss's health with every successful attack.
Wyatt, who of course was still watching, was thoroughly impressed by Lukas's swordsmanship.
ROOOOOAAAARRRRRRR
As Ergus's health dropped below 20%, The rest of his body started to sizzle with flames as well. This change which boosted all of his stats quickly caught Lukas off guard.
Ducking under the approaching claw, Lukas aimed directly at the chimera's injured stomach. But before he could make contact, Ergus had already used his other claw to defend himself.
Quickly rolling out of the way, Lukas sped up once again while launching directly at the back of the chimera's neck. As he thrust through the air, Lukas suddenly realized that the boss wasn't surprised by his actions at all. Instead, he could make out a faint grin on the creature's terrifying face.
He instantly knew that he had been played. The chimera had purposefully left the back of his neck open in order to bait an attack. Knowing a powerful attack was coming, Lukas wasted no time using his only life saving skill.
"MIRAGE!"
As the creature's massive tail swung down at Lukas's head, Everyone in the room was certain that he was about to die. Suddenly to everyone's surprise, instead of hitting him, the chimeras tail passed directly through Lukas's head before colliding with the ground beneath.
When the tailed passed through him, Lukas's face seemed to turn into a fiery mist for a few seconds before returning to normal. Even Lukas's team members were caught off guard by this sudden new skill, still judging by the fact Lukas immediately started stumbling after landing, Wyatt could tell that using the skill was very costly.
Taking Lukas's situation to its advantage, Ergus charged at the group's other members. Usually, a less intelligent boss would've taken the chance to attack Lukas again, but since Ergus was originally human, he could somewhat understand that the healer of the group was the one supplying Lukas with enough mana to battle.
CRASH
Tim could only look on in horror as their team's healer was instantly flattened into the wall. Because all the mana recovery skills had been going to Lukas, he still didn't have enough energy to use any powerful skills again
The boss continued to rampage their group, and it wasn't until Hector died as well that Lukas managed to arrive.
"Crap..." muttering under his breath, Lukas knew the situation was no longer in his control. Without a supply of mana, he didn't know how much longer he could last against this opponent.
Still with no better option, He once again launched forward. Ergus was no longer caught off guard by his speed, instead, the beast even started countering Lukas's attacks before he had any chances.
After pushing Lukas back a couple of steps, Ergus took the chance to swing at him with full power.
"SHIELD CHARGE"
Just in time, Tim appeared with his shield before barely blocking the incoming attack. The impact of the attack was so powerful that Tim fell onto one knee gasping for air.
"Thanks.." Lukas mumbled while also catching his breath
Tim wobbled back and forth before closing his eyes and muttering "No problem, but that's it for m...."
SLAM
Before he could even finish his sentence, the chimera's massive tail slammed into him. After using that last skill Tim was completely out of mana, so he instantly died against the chimera's powerful attacks.
As the chimera raised his claws to finish off Lukas, Wyatt knew it was finally time for him to make a move.
