Capítulo 43: Ergus the demented (part 1)
"Left!"
Rolling to the left, Wyatt managed to dodge the approaching chimera. Following this he made quick work of his opponent using his jolt blades skill.
Almost an hour had passed since the pair continued their journey after fighting the flying chimeras earlier. Since then, they have continuously run into different groups of monsters patrolling around the underground lab.
"Phew... That's already the 7th group of chimeras! I'm going to run out of mana at this rate" Wiping the blood from one of the nearby chimera corpses off his hands, Bellamy started to complain about their current situation.
Wyatt could be considered to be in a slightly better condition than his teammate. Although they ran into multiple groups, the chimeras were all relatively weak compared to his earlier opponents, because of this Wyatt didn't need to rely on any of his poison skills which drain most of his mana.
Of course, even without using these skills, Wyatt was close to reaching his limit as well.
"Just a bit longer! if we can't find the boss room within the next couple of minutes we can rest"
Wyatt was doing his best to reassure Bel.
Continuing through the dirty laboratory hallways, Wyatt led the way through the winding path leading further inside. Luckily, unlike the wolf den, the chimera lab didn't branch off into multiple paths, so they knew as long as they kept going forward eventually they would reach the boss.
Just as Wyatt was about to give up mentally and take a break, He noticed some faint orange lights glowing ahead of them.
"That's gotta be it!" Wyatt exclaimed, before charging forward with a renewed energy.
To the fortune of the pair, they didn't run into any more patrolling chimeras during this last stretch of the dungeon. With no obstacles, it took the pair less than 5 minutes to approach the glowing lights.
"Woah!"
Both Wyatt and Bellamy looked in astonishment at the glowing room before them. While walking in the distance, the pair assumed the faint lights were just normal torches for lighting the room.
It turned out they were completely wrong. They could tell that this room used to be much more important than the others just by the detailed designs and materials used to build it. Dark marble flooring could be seen covering the entire room giving it a glistening after effect.
In each corner of the room stood large metal pillars that were engraved with some sort of symbol involving a skull and horns. As for the orange lights that guided the duo, deep cracks could be seen all over the walls of the room, sometimes even on the floor itself. Within these cracks, the now familiar orange glow could be seen illuminating.
The pairing of dark floors with the weird skull symbols gave the room a creepy yet almost fancy atmosphere greatly shocking the duo that entered.
As Wyatt was about to step forward Bel quickly reminded him
"Careful! we still don't know where the boss is"
Giving Bellamy a quick nod, Wyatt slowly crept forward. After making sure there were no traps or monsters waiting for them, Wyatt gestured for Bel to follow him in.
Now with both of them safe and inside they could finally explore the exciting new space.
"Holy crap! What do you think this is made of?" Bel exclaimed quickly while running off to one of the glowing cracks to examine it.
"Honestly no idea, but be careful we still don't know if anything thing here is dangerous to us" Wyatt stated while making his way toward some desks near the center of the room.
Dusting off one of the wooden chairs nearby, Wyatt sat down before proceeding to start opening the nearby drawers hoping to find something.
While he was busy searching Bellamy was happily examing the orange light. Deep within the cracks, he noticed that large glowing mushrooms were growing within, and these mushrooms were the ones producing the orange lights.
Since they didn't know if these mushrooms were harmful in any way, Bel carefully stored a few in a sealed container before making his way toward Wyatt.
"Find anything?" Asked Bel while leaning over Wyatt's shoulder to get a better look at the desk.
"Nothing yet, how about you?" Wyatt inquired while noticing the container in his hands.
Bellamy gave him a quick breakdown of how the mushrooms were the ones producing the orange light.
"Interesting... I don't feel any poisonous energy from them, I wonder what they are"
Due to his affinity, Wyatt could usually feel if something contained poisonous mana, but these mushrooms didn't give him any reaction. Although he was a little curious about them, Wyatt decided to focus on searching the desks for anything.
Not long after, he found what he was looking for.
[Ergus journal]
"What's that!" Bel excitedly examined the small notebook in Wyatt's hands.
Rolling his eyes at his teammate's excitement, Wyatt replied "I'm not sure yet, but hopefully it can tell us more about this place"
Wyatt's main goal was still to find a way to progress in his poison affinity. So he was hoping this journal could shed some light on the experiments that previously happened here.

[On the order of young master Veriont, my team succeeded in entering the kingdom of Zigural on the 17th of April. According to our instructions, we are to immediately head south toward the mountains before building our base. Sir Ergus has been placed in charge of this operation]
