After Emily walked away, it became too damn awkward to stay in the room with Waylen, knowing fully well I was the cause of his predicament but before I could make it out the door, he spoke to me.

And just like that, the awkwardness increased…and I didn't even think it was humanly possible.

"Was it love at first sight for you and Emily?"

I stopped in my tracks.

What is Waylen doing?

Wasn't he in enough pain already without bringing up my past complicated relationship with his wife?

It's probably delirium due to silver poisoning, I try to tell myself.

I mean It was better than admitting that the chill person I thought Waylen was all in my head.

I turned around and I looked at him.

He looked frail lying on that bed, nothing like the young man who confronted me in Astoria warning me to stay away from his family.
