Gan still had time before the auction began, so he went to a restaurant for breakfast. The people in the restaurant were gossiping about the police. They were also talking about the new criminal
It was a hot topic.
Gan listened silently before being seated by a waiter. He ordered some breakfast food for himself, as his Pokemon had already eaten prior.
'I need to really leave this city after this auction. There are some pretty interesting things up for auction.'
Gan knew this because of the paper he had received before leaving the Black Market. He paid for his meal and left the man a tip before exiting the restaurant.
'Time to head to the black market. I may as well get seated and wait for it to start; rather than going in while others were doing the same.'
There would be a series of traffic coming through during this time. Gan had even heard that a few rich families would participate silently. They wouldn't let their face be discovered in such a place, but they did this behind closed doors.
Gan put on the same outfit as he had on last time before going stepping into the Blackmarket. He wore the half-black and white phantom of the opera mask, with a hooded cape.
The moment Gan arrived, he could see an influx of people going into the dilapidated house.
"It looks like I'm not the only one with the same idea." Some people wanted to get seated early, so they arrived early.
Gan met with Jayce, the Fatman.
"Ah, you're here, I'll show you to your V.I.P. room." Jayce rubbed his hands together with anticipation.
"Wait a minute, there's something else I would like to add to the auction." Gan had thought about a few things over the days and opted for this.
"Oh, you want to add items to the auction? This is good, there have been a few people doing the same at the last moment."
Jayce signaled Gan to follow him. He followed him down to the auction area where Gan handed his Storage backpack.
There, Gan spotted the man Luke from Before.
"Oh, if it isn't Hank, right?" Luke turned in their direction, but he hadn't forgotten Gan's 'name'.
That's me." Gan nodded.
Luke turned to Jayce, but for Jayce to bring him here; there must be something.
"What you're thinking is likely right. Hank is here to add a few things to the auction he managed to gather."
Jayce had known Luke for some time now, so he could somewhat guess what he was wondering.
"Ah, you want to add more items? This is perfect, the more the merrier!" Luke's eyes brightened.
This Hank guy already added a very sought-after item to the auction, what would he add next?
"Please, show me what you would like to add." Luke rubbed his hands together with anticipation.
Gan thought about it for a moment and pulled out the Mr. Mime he stole from Professor Oak's lab. It was, of course, in it Pokeball, so they didn't know what pokemon was inside.
Gan also pulled out one of the Helix fossils he had stolen while he was back in Mt. Moon.
"This... this is a fossil!" Luke smiled and continued, "There was another fossil on auction, but it isn't a fossil from this region."
Gan wondered what type of fossil it could be. If it wasn't from this region, it was likely from the Hoenn region.
Luke stated that there was quite an amount of collectors who loved fossil pokemon. There so happened to be a good portion of them participating in the auction.
Luke told Gan that he was going to get a great price on the fossil no matter what because of this. Gan was naturally feeling good about this, he needed all the money he could get.
Luke evaluated the pokemon inside the Poke ball with a machine, he didn't bother summoning it. This machine checked what pokemon it was, its type, gender, talent, and health condition.
Luke set a starting price for Mr. Mime and Gan was fine with it. As far as Gan was concerned, he had added it to his Pokedex and it was such a useful pokemon to him.
"Ah, right, there has been an update on the auction list. This thing keeps updating, and you've just caused another update."
Luke handed Gan the newly updated list, which was just printed out. Gan looked at the list and saw that it had changed a lot.
Gan saw that a couple of pokemon had their talents changed and more items added to the list.
With that, Jayce and Gan left the evaluation room. Gan was guided to his own separate V.I.P. room alone.
The auction was going to start in about thirty to forty-five minutes.
The V.I.P. room had luxurious red carpet with beautiful wooden furniture. On side of the room, there were expensive-looking pictures on the wall.
Gan seated himself on the couch and took a deep breath. Afterward, he summoned Growlithe and proceeded to give her her daily medicine.
"After this auction, I'll head to the checkpoint to see if I can leave the city. Hopefully, they'll let me through due to my status as an active league challenger."
Gan sat back and rubbed Growlithe's head and back. In no time, the place began to fill up with people taking seats below.
Gan was watching this from a place in his personal room. The time had finally come. Right then, everything in the auction room grew silent.
An elderly man came from the back and onto the stage, he wore a black suit and tophat.
"Welcome everyone, to the grand auction. We're proud to announce the start of our annual three-year auction! My name is Qu'ron and today I will be your host for this amazing auction."
Qu'ron smiled and gazed around the room.
"We'll first be kicking this auction off with something that's beautiful and tough to come by." While Qu'ron was speaking—a man had come on stage.
The man placed a beautiful turquoise stone on the display table. Inside this stone appeared to be a star.
"This is a Dawn Stone, it can only be used to evolve two types of pokemon. The starting bid will begin with ₱5,000, you may start your bids!"
₱5,100!
₱5,500
₱7,500
The bids began to rise quickly. Gan thought that it was best to get his hands on what stones he could.
"I'll wait and see."
The price went up to ₱15,000 when Gan finally bidded and up the price to ₱17,000. Gan only had ₱210,000 on him, but he was relying on the things he placed on auction.
Someone else placed a bid before Gan placed a bid again and bought the stone for ₱23,000. This stone usually costs ₱30,000 to ₱40,000, so Gan considered it a deal. Someone came up to his room and exchanged the money with the stone.
The next item was a Dusk stone, this stone. This price started at ₱15,000 because it was rare and could evolve four species of pokemon.
This stone shot up fast until someone purchased it for ₱80,000. Perhaps it was a Team Rocket member who wanted to evolve a Murkrow or Misdreavus.
The next item was a Toxic Orb, which was bought by a man in a V.I.P. room.
Time passed, and they auctioned many items but Gan wasn't interested in most of them.
"Now, we're concluding the standard items, it's time for the really rare items." Qu'ron seemed eager, and that's when a man came onto the stage.
"The next item is this; this is known as a Dragonscale. This will evolve one pokemon, and that's Seadra into a Kingdra."
The scale was baby blue and yellow.
"The starting bid will be ₱50,000, you may place your bids." There were some people interested in the scale and began their bids right after.
₱60,000!
₱75,000
₱90,000
₱100,000
"Haha, it's my stone, no one can have it!" A man yelled triumphantly from his V.I.P. room.
₱105,000!
"What? Someone's willing to spend that much money on an item that evolves one species of pokemon."
"Damn it! ₱110,000!" The man in the V.I.P. room said with frustration.
"₱120,000!"
Gan didn't back down, there was no telling when he would run into this item again. Besides, it was a one-time use thing—once this scale was used he wouldn't need to worry about it anymore.
"Damn it! Forget it!" The man decided to forget about it.
"₱120,000 going once... going twice... sold to the guest in room six!" Qu'ron said happily.
A woman came up to Gan's room to exchange.
"After this, all the items I purchase from here on—I want to pay for after the auction. I have something up for auction and I would like to use that money as collateral."
As Gan was exchanging with the woman, he mentioned this.
"I can't make this decision, I'll go ask someone of a higher status if this is possible." She merely worked here part-time, she couldn't make this type of decision.
"Please hurry, the spicy items are going to be auctioned soon." Gan couldn't miss evolutionary items, especially ones similar to the Dragonscale.
The woman hurriedly left to confirm if this was possible. Meanwhile, the next item was being auctioned. Gan looked and saw from his appraisal that it was an Upgrade; something that was used on Porygon.
The price had already risen to ₱190,000, which was more than what Gan could afford. The price kept surging, this item wasn't an item that Silph. Co would simply give out.
₱240,000!
Right then, a knock was heard at the door.
"Who is it?" Gan asked.
"It's me, sir. I just wanted to say that they approved of it!" The woman said from the other side.
"Alright, thanks!" Gan smiled with satisfaction.
₱245,000 going once, going twice...
"Hehe, it's mine now!" A man smiled happily.
"₱255,000!"
"What?!" The man spat out his wine in surprise.
"F**k! ₱260,000!
"₱270,000"
"Who is this guy? Is he a part of Team Rocket or some foreign team?" The man didn't know, it was best for him to know who he was dealing with.
"Bane, go investigate who's in that room, I want to know who we're dealing with."
"Yes, boss, right away." The bodyguard hurriedly left the room to gather information.
'Go against me? You better have a good backing or you're finished!' The man glared across at room six.
However, he couldn't see who was inside because of the glass prevention. This glass disallowed people to preview from this side, but it was different for the person in the actual room.
In order to talk and bid, they had to use a mic—which channeled their voices through a speaker near their room.
No one bidded anymore, they seem to be saving their money for other things. Gan won the item, but they didn't send the item to him. They held onto the item until he paid for it at the auction.
Jayce called up to Gan's room and told him that Luke was involved, but they couldn't give him the items until he paid.
"The next item is something special, something really special!" Qu'ron spoke with deep meaning.
Qu'ron revealed the item to everyone. This item caused many eyes to bulge because it was important to a lot of people here.
"I have to get this item!" This was something Gan had to acquire, it was important for boosting his team's strength.
It was a Protector!
The Protector was something he needed for his future Rhydon, which was a part of his League Team. Rhyhorn was a Kanto pokemon, so people could find it with little difficulty.
This was why many people wanted this item.
"This is a special exclusive item that can evolve one species of pokemon. It's the same as the Dragonscale, but this item is harder to acquire."
Qu'ron had a wide grin across his face, he knew this item would draw the interest of most of the audience.
"Great! The starting bid will be ₱200,000, you guys may bid now!" He said smilingly.
"₱230,000!"
"₱255,000!"
"₱275,000!"
"₱300,000!"
The bids started rising quickest so it had ever gone so far. Gan sat quietly and weighed everyone's limits before bidding.
This was equivalent to Gan saving his breath until the last moment. Gan noticed that people from other V.I.P. rooms were bidding hard this time.
The bid stopped at ₱500,000, which caused Gan to sweat a bit from the shocking price. However, he was assured when he remembered that his Storage backpack would start at a way higher price than this.
The room when silent after the ₱500,000 was heard. Qu'ron started the countdown, but Gan increased the bid to ₱520,000.
This caused a few people to gasp, it was truly an astronomical price. The man in the guest room frowned, but he challenged Gan anyway.
This went on until the price reached ₱650,000!
The man didn't bid anymore and lost interest. Gan won the bid, but the item, of course—wasn't sent to him.
The next item was an Electirizer, which Gan managed to buy at ₱835,000. When this item appeared the bidding war intensified.
Afterward, the next items weren't so great. They were mostly [Held Items] that helped boost certain types of moves, such as Sharp Beak.
Gan didn't purchase any of these items, as they weren't really that important to him. This continued for about thirty minutes. They were moving quickly and were bidding and buying at the same rate.
"Next, we have some special balls from the expert himself, Kurt of Johto. These were made to help boost your bond and the friendliness of your pokemon."
These balls were revealed, there were a total of 12 of them. They were half green and half white; being green at the top and white at the bottom.
"These are Friendballs and the starting bid will be ₱10,000, you may begin." Once Qu'ron announced this, the room went silent.
There didn't seem to be anyone interested from what Gan could judge. Someone up the bid to ₱11,000 but Gan increased it to ₱12,000.
Afterward, Gan won the unique balls.
Next was the introduction of another item that confused Gan at first. However, he remembered the strange letter before about new things.
Qu'ron, the Auctioneer, introduced the next items as [Link Cords]. The Auctioneer didn't know the origin of the items, as his explanations were vague and hard to understand.
"This looks like some sort of technology that was made by Silph Co. or some other company." From his memories, this item was acquired through some sort of time displacement event. Perhaps it had come to this world from some other time or reality.
"Nonetheless, this item is important as it can evolve pokemon that require trading sooner than leveling." Gan could but think that it was about time they created an item such as this.
"There are a total of two of them here, we're auctioning these items together. These can be used to evolve pokemon early, such as Graveler, Machoke, Kadabra, and Haunter."
Qu'ron smiled before stating the auction starting bid of ₱100,000!
The price wasn't on par with the Electirizer and the bid started immediately. Since this item only evolved these pokemon sooner, it wasn't as intense as the Electirizer or the Protector.
This was for obvious reasons, and that only being that this item only evolved them sooner rather than later.
The bid reached ₱300,000, but it stopped there before being won over by Gan.
A great of people were squinting their eyes, was this guy going to buy everything? This even caused many people in the V.I.P. rooms to feel dissatisfied.
Gan summoned Kadabra because of his high perception ability. Right away, Kadabra knew that there were people who resented him.
This was the only pokemon Gan could actually communicate with. Kadabra informed Gan that there were pokemon locked up in the building. It said this because it found that Gan had a strong interest in collecting pokemon.
Gan nodded and explained that they were likely being auctioned off later.
The auction continued onward, but these items were things that Gan wasn't interested in. However, Gan managed to buy a small bundle of Star pieces, six to be exact, for ₱600,000.
Gan now had enough Star pieces to upgrade two pokemon from 3 to 4-star pokemon. Someone managed to buy an Eviolite Stone, something Gan wanted. However, he was getting too much attention, so he withdrew mid-way.
"The next item will be this, it's a Metal Coat and its starting price is ₱120,000. You may start your bids."
Gan was surprising the first to raise the price, he really wanted this item. Of course, the price continued to rise from other challengers. The only reason Gan could be so confident was because of the items he had up for auction.
Gan bought the Metal Coat for ₱540,000! This item could only evolve two known pokemon so far, so it wasn't necessary for most people.
However, for Gan—who was trying to fill out his Pokedex, it was mandatory. If he was here with other trainers at some regular open auction, he would no doubt end up in an intense bidding war.
Suddenly, a man came on stage with two objects covered by cloaks.
"Next, we'll be auctioning pokemon fossils. The first fossil is a fossil from the Hoenn region, it's known as the..." The auctioneer paused and gazed at a piece of paper.
"The Claw Fossil," Qu'ron announced confidently.
Gan had heard Luke mention that there was one fossil on auction—other than his. The Claw fossil belonged to Anorith, which wasn't a bad pokemon. However, it wasn't a pokemon he was too interested in.
Gan still wanted to get it since fossils weren't something people just found or handed out. The fossil bid price was starting at ₱100,000
The price in a similar fashion began to rise low but steadily. This was until it finally reached ₱300,000.
Some guy dressed as some sort of explorer or archaeologist seemed really adamant about getting this fossil. Gan could see the man down below, he was amongst the crowd of people.
Gan bidded and the archaeologist kept increasing the price. He really didn't want to give this fossil up. The man didn't even bother hiding his face, as if he wasn't worried about being targeted in the future.
Gan kept bidding against him until the price reached ₱800,000, which shocked Gan greatly. This guy was truly determined to get this fossil.
It didn't stop before reaching ₱920,000, this is when the man stop bidding. With a sigh, he could only stop but he gazed up at the sixth room with a disheartened expression.
The next fossil came and this was Gan's Helix fossil. Once again, the price crept upward, and Gan challenged the man again until the fossil reached the price of ₱915,000.
However, Gan didn't say anything more and allowed the archaeologist to win the bid for the fossil. Gan could somewhat see the relief on the archaeologist's face when he stopped bidding.
"Next, we'll auction off the last item before getting into the TMs." Right then, a man came on stage with an evolutionary stone.
Gan had analyzed it as it was being brought to the stage. He found out that it was a Shiny Stone, something he needed as well.
Qu'ron simply stated what type of stone it was and who could be evolved with it. Afterward, he stated the starting bidding price, which was ₱150,000.
"₱230,000"
"₱250,000"
"₱275,000"
"₱310,000"
The price continued to rise until it was ultimately bought by Gan for ₱710,000.
----
Meanwhile, the man returned to the room after his investigation.
"What did you find out about the man from room six?" The white-suited man asked arrogantly.
"We didn't find out anything, they refused to tell me any details about him. I even offered money and several other benefits, but they told me to leave.
The large man's expression fell.
"They won't tell us anything?" The white-suited man frowned. This annoying guy was buying everything up, did he come from some rich family?
This wasn't impossible at all. These rich families were actually here but hidden. They came here to purchase a few things as well.
"Go have someone monitor that room. I want to see what family may be involved in this." The white-suited man had to be careful, he couldn't offend the wrong people.
"Yes, sir, we'll people to monitor the room closely." The large man said with a grin.
----
"Next will be TMs, there aren't many as there are only a total of five." The auctioneer, Qu'ron waved his hand and announced.
The auctioneer began to auction off the TM's one by one. The first TM that was being auctioned was Thunder Wave, Pluck, Silver Wind, Endure, and Drain Punch.
Gan only purchased Thunder Wave and Drain Punch for a grand total of ₱895,000.
"Now, for the next part of the auction. This time, we'll be auctioning off special items before getting to the last part of the auction—Pokemon."
Qu'ron grinned.
