Capítulo 152: Chapter 152: Yuta's Transformation (Part 2)

Unfortunately, things were not as simple as Yuta had imagined. Students who could attend the trainer school generally came from well-off families. After a while, Yuta found he couldn't fit in with the other students.

Things that were easy for them were impossible for Yuta. This is why Rex, after receiving compensation, first thought of buying a farm to create a stable base. Without a foundation, nothing could be accomplished.

Yuta hadn't thought that far ahead. He assumed that attending the trainer school would automatically make him a strong trainer, but reality was much harsher.

In the trainer school's practical classes, Yuta always ranked near the bottom. The school used a 2V2 Pokémon battle format. Although Swellow was decent, Yuta lacked the resources and training methods to raise it properly, leading to predictable results.

When Swellow managed to defeat one of the opponent's Pokémon, there was always another ready to fight, leaving Yuta with no way to continue.

Capturing another Pokémon was also difficult for Yuta. He could barely sustain Swellow, let alone take on another one.

This was why Yuta kept asking Grandma Nieno for money—he wanted to save up to train a second Pokémon. He believed that with a second Pokémon, he could prove himself to his classmates and teachers.

Yuta's obsession drove him to even lash out at Grandma Nieno, whom he once deeply respected. Although he felt remorseful afterward, he convinced himself that once he raised a second Pokémon, things would improve.

"Yuta, since you chose to be a trainer, you have to endure the hardships it brings. You're a man now; you need to learn to be self-reliant," Yuli said after listening to Yuta's complaints.

"Heh, Yuli, that's easy for you to say. Think about it: if you weren't working at Rex's farm, would your life be this good? You might be worse off than me," Yuta replied sarcastically.

"How dare you speak like that! Do you know how hard Yuli works?" Yui snapped.

"If hard work guaranteed success, I'd have made it by now. I've tried—going to school by day and working odd jobs by night. But the money I earn isn't enough to train Swellow," Yuta said, on the verge of breaking down.

Yuta had indeed tried, but his efforts seemed insignificant in the world of trainers. This led him to target Grandma Nieno's relocation money.

Yuta had set his sights too high. He could have gradually accumulated experience and resources, but he wanted to leapfrog those with family support, which was nearly impossible without extraordinary luck. It's like a poor student studying hard for years yet still being outmatched by someone with generations of accumulated wealth.

Yuta consoled himself, thinking he was just borrowing the money and would repay the orphanage once his Pokémon grew strong enough.

Ultimately, Yuli lent Yuta 30,000 alliance coins, her savings from recent wages, keeping only a small amount for herself. Her condition was that Yuta wouldn't trouble Grandma Nieno anymore.

Yuta readily agreed, believing this money would help him catch and train a second Pokémon.

After hearing Yui's account, Rex felt a mix of emotions. He had high hopes for Yuta, giving him a fortified Taillow egg. But Yuta's later behavior disappointed Rex, extinguishing any desire to help further.

Yuta would surely regret his actions if he knew what he missed. Staying at Rex's farm could have provided Swellow with essential energy blocks and training support from other Swellow. An evolved Swellow, Yuta's path as a trainer would have been much smoother, but his greed ruined everything.

To Rex, Yuta was now inconsequential. He had no intention of intervening further. Yuta's selfishness, disregarding even his benefactors and orphanage mates, was extreme.

"Kindness can turn into resentment. When you give too much to someone ungrateful, they feel they can never repay you, and thus believe they deserve it all. If you then deny them anything, they start to resent you," Rex explained to Yuli.

Yuli and the others shivered at Rex's words. Yuli, in particular, felt a chill imagining Yuta viewing her as an enemy.

"What should I do then? I can't just abandon him," Yuli asked, pushing away the dark thoughts.

"Everyone has their own path. Whether it's good or bad, they must walk it themselves. You can only help when they're about to fall, not carry them all the way," Rex said sternly.

At that moment, Rex didn't seem like a twelve-year-old. To Yuli and the others, he had become their pillar of support.

"I understand now, boss," Yuli nodded firmly.

Yuli usually had a clear head and good growth plans but lost her calm with close ones. After considering Rex's words, she realized she couldn't endlessly support Yuta. There were many others at the orphanage she couldn't meet all their needs.

She recalled Grandma Nieno's immediate halt to Yuta's demands after learning the money wasn't necessary, no matter how much he protested. No wonder Grandma Nieno had tried to stop Yuli from lending him money.

"This ends here. Be more careful in the future," Rex concluded, not wanting to dwell on Yuta anymore. Such people were everywhere, not worth spoiling their mood over.

With less than three months until the Ever Grande Conference, Rex planned to use this time to strengthen his Pokémon, making his hard-earned eight gym badges worthwhile.
