"Hello Professor, how are you?" I greeted Professor Oak after he picked up my call. "Hello to you as well Professor Geo," I heard him say jovially and I had to smile because I knew he was teasing me by calling me Professor Geo. "I can't complain really, everything's going as usual," he continued his reply. "I've been following the news on you, congratulations on gaining your first two Badges; Your battle against Stephanie was especially impressive," the Professor said, and I felt happy and proud to hear him say that. "Thank you, professor. We're doing our best. We've actually just earned my third Badge," I returned trying to sound somewhat humble.
"I'm sure you do my boy, and congratulations on the new Badge," he said after chuckling a bit. "So, how can this old man help you my boy?" the professor followed up sounding both intrigued and amicable. "Can't I have just called to ask you how you are?" I mock complained, and he laughed a bit before I heard him say "Sure you can; Did you?". "Well, in this case, I indeed do have something I would like to ask you," I began and he chuckled a bit when I said that. "That's fine my boy; Go ahead, tell me what I can help you with and I'll see what I can do," he said warmly and I decided to just cut straight to the matter at hand.
"Professor, I'd like to buy or exchange a few Cyndaquil eggs; Do you happen to have some at hand that you wouldn't mind exchanging or selling to me?" I inquired and I heard him release a sigh. "I'm sorry, but we currently have no Cyndaquil eggs available," Professor Oak admitted, though I had already expected something along those lines after that sigh.
"Still, I can apply for some for you with Brian or the alliance if you want," he helpfully offered. "Just tell me what you are planning to use them for so that I can put it on the application to speed things up," he followed up, not even bothering to hide the curiosity in his tone, showing that he was knowingly not being subtle with his inquiry. I had to smile at his question, having already expected the professor to be interested in whether I had stumbled into something interesting to study.
Professor Oak's curiosity, along with his friendliness and exuberance were a major reason why he was still such a great guy after all. Still, I would have to disappoint him, at least in this matter. "I need them for a private matter, not a research project," I denied. "That's unfortunate," Professor Oak replied. "It would have sped things up," he added, and I knew he was right. Still, I had a way of having him help me speed things up regardless.
"While those eggs are not for a research project, I did stumble upon something worthy of research recently, and if you could help me speed things up with the acquisition of those Cyndaquil eggs, I would be willing to lend it to you for research. You'd just have to cite me as the discoverer of the species," I enticed the Professor with a vague offer, only revealing that it was related to a new species at the end.
Since I had given a Shadinja to Kinji, their existence was going to come to light sooner rather than later even if I did not show off mine, so letting Oak Labs lead a research project on Shadinja was no problem as long as I was noted down as the discoverer of the species. Due to that, I decided to make this offer since doing so not only helped me push my request but also bolstered my reputation in the science community.
"Oh, did you manage to come across another undiscovered species?" Professor Oak inquired excitedly. "You really are very lucky," he followed up and I only laughed a bit but did not refute since it was true. "Yes, I did," I confirmed; "I managed to find a species linked to Shedinja and Ninjask. In fact, I believe that it is the true or rather the comprehensive evolution of Shedinja, making Shedinja an incomplete evolution," I revealed and I heard the Professor take a deep breath at my revelation.
"Truly? That's incredible" He said in wonder and I automatically nodded even though he couldn't see it. "Yes," I affirmed. "Not only does Shadinja, that's what the species is called, have the bug/ghost typing, but it also has Wonder Guard and Speed Boost in its ability pool," I followed up with some information on Shadinja. "Fascinating," the Professor said. "What else have you found out so far?" He inquired, and I decided to share the rest with him as well.
"Interestingly enough, while Shadinja possesses the typing and Wonder Guard ability along with a similar name to Shedinja, Speed Boost is not the only thing it has in common with Ninjask. In fact, Shadinja looks like a Ninjask that has add-ons from a Shedinja. Not only that, but its racial value is higher than that of both Shedinja and Shadinja, and I would rate it at the same level as that of Yanmega, making it a top-rank species. In fact, considering its abilities, I would put it at the very top of that rank. Either way, Shadinja is the superior evolution out of all existing ones," I shared with the Professor, who attentively listened to everything I said.
"Incredible," he said after noticing that I was done. "A truly incredible find my boy," he praised me warmly before his tone shifted to a more serious one. "I'm truly honored that you would want me and my lab to do the official research on Shadinja, was it, but are you sure about that? I can arrange the matter of the eggs even without this," Professor Oak said and I had to chuckle a bit.
"I'm sure professor," I confirmed. "I believe you when you say you would have helped me regardless, but this way you have a valid excuse to push things along. I don't want to wait too long for these eggs if possible. Besides, I don't have the time to do it myself, and the earlier you can publicly work on the research the better since I have given a Shadinja to my good friend Kinji, who is a Bug King," I admitted; "I'll ask Kinji to keep his Shadinja a secret for the next half a year, but after that, he'll probably start using her in official battles," I followed up, practically telling him that Shadinja's existence was going to be public after around half a year.
"That's fine. I can understand why you did it, and it won't interfere with our research," Professor Oak returned, pretty much stating that he was accepting. "I'll talk directly to Brian and get you four eggs. I should have them delivered to Pallet City the day after tomorrow at the latest," Professor Oak mentioned after pondering for a moment. "Do you want to come over and pick them up, or should I have someone send them over to Hoenn?" He inquired a moment later, and I thought about it.
"It would be great if you could send someone over," I acknowledged, and he hmmed. "I could send them to Dan's Lab, but Littleroot should be a bit far from your current location, so Lilycove would be better for you right?" He asked and I acknowledged that that was the case with a "Right". "Alright, in that case, I'll have someone meet up with you in Lilycove City for the exchange once the eggs come into my possession. Just hand the PokeBall with the Shadinja to the courier," Professor Oak affirmed, and I just said "Alright" since there was not much left to say.
"Great," the Professor said cheerfully. "I've got to call Brian now, so have a good day my boy," he said sounding excited, and he hung up after I wished him a good day as well. While some people might have found that last bit a bit rude, I could not help but laugh after Professor Oak hung up because I found it funny seeing/witnessing a big shot like Professor acting excited like that.
Anyway, I took a look at the time once I stopped laughing, and I saw that there was still more than an hour and a half until my lunch agreement with Kinji and Violet, so I found a deserted place to enter Utopia. My Pokemon were hanging around my place and they surrounded me when they saw me appear. I first praised the battlers on their performance during the Gym Challenge before talking about the battles with everyone to hear what they thought about the battles.
Halfway through our conversation, I began to hand out lunch and we ate while we talked. Being the little fatty that I was, at least capacity-wise, I was not worried about being unable to eat anything during the lunch with Kinji. Either way, the time spent with my not-so-little family went by pretty fast, and before I knew it, 80 minutes had passed, leaving me only 10 or so minutes until my lunch with Kinji and Violet. I told my Pokemon to continue without me and left Utopia before hurrying towards the restaurant we agreed to meet up at.
I saw Kinji along with his plus one wait for me when I made it there, and we made our way inside after exchanging greetings. We talked about my Gym Challenge, and Violet was pretty enthusiastic during our conversation, which was a definite plus since it showed that she fit right in with our little group since all of us were some kind of trainer, which made being a Pokemon enthusiast a kind of must-have condition. I mean, she had said that she came from a Pokemon-related background, but seeing her behaving like that was much better proof than being told about it.
Once we had eaten, we split the bill and I left the two alone after we agreed to meet up for breakfast. I made my way back inside Utopia and went around overseeing my Pokemon who had started their second training sessions of the day. After the session was over, I decided to start a massage session, starting from the ones that took part in the Gym Challenge. I would obviously not be able to go through everyone in a single day, especially not since I had to take a dinner break, but by the time I decided to call it a day at midnight, I had finished massaging roughly 20% of our family.
As I lay on my bed, I decided to look at the results my third thought stream had made so far while digging through my super library in its/his quest to learn humanity's actual age. That proved to be harder than one would expect since he/I not only had to go through the history books of the 4 known civilizations but also books from other sources since humans had periods where there was not a unified government even during the times of those civilizations. Not to mention that apparently there were humans even before the first unified civilization that got taken out by Mew.
Anyway, there was a lot of work involved in the research. Way more than I had expected when I decided to do this, so I/my third thought stream had chosen to start with the easiest ones first. Obviously, that was the current/4th civilization, which according to the books was 4885 years old, this year included. After that, I/he jumped back to the first civilization, and that's when things started to get more complicated since that period had more than just the two calendar periods we have.
There was obviously the period/calendar of the government that caused the end of the 1st round for humanity. That one ended in the year 5693, but that was only their latest calendar which began after their government had achieved unification. Before that, there was a period in which each continent had its own government, and they all used their own calendars, which unsurprisingly started whenever they managed to unify their continent. The oldest calendar of that period was the southern one, which dated back 1744 years, meaning that it took that many years from the moment that their continent was united until the continents came together to form a unified government.
To be fair not all continent calendars were that long, so one could argue it only took that long because some continents took their time with their unification, but even the "youngest" calendar, belonging to the eastern continent, was already at the year 685 before the unification happened. Now, obviously, there were calendars in use before the southern one started, so that had to be looked up and properly compared to find accurate numbers, which made for a lot of work. Honestly, at this point, I had wondered if this was not way too much work for a passing/sudden interest, but I had decided to at least finish the first one and go from there.
