The roaring flames flickered as Tyson watched Rudy's body gradually turn to ashes. He took a deep breath, his resolve hardening. He wouldn't allow himself to become like Rudy, nor would he let his Pokémon, such as Charmeleon or Eevee, fall victim to others as mere trophies. To prevent that, Tyson vowed to do whatever it took to grow stronger.

Grabbing Rudy's backpack and his Poké Balls, Tyson made his way to Rudy's cave. He approached cautiously, testing for traps or tricks Rudy might have left behind. After ensuring everything was safe, he stepped inside.

"Ding!"

A familiar voice echoed in his mind.

"System Notice: The host has successfully adapted to wild survival. The Challenge Function is now activated. Each time the host enters a wild Pokémon habitat, the challenge function will automatically engage. Defeating Pokémon of various strengths will award different levels of mission points."

"The battle must solely rely on the host and their Pokémon. Assistance from others or their Pokémon will result in a deduction of points proportionate to their contribution."

Tyson blinked, taking a moment to process the information. A grin slowly spread across his face. Ironically, Rudy had become his lucky charm. Without eliminating him, Tyson wouldn't have gained the 100 mission points or unlocked this challenge feature.

Chuckling at the irony, Tyson examined the cave. It wasn't large but spacious enough to house Charmeleon and Eevee comfortably, with room to spare. There were shallow dents in the walls, evidence of candles Rudy had used for lighting. Rudy had clearly packed everything valuable into his backpack for his patrols, leaving the cave otherwise empty.

Feeling a mix of anticipation and curiosity, Tyson rummaged through Rudy's backpack. It felt like opening a mystery box—though the contents were less than thrilling. He found some potions for curing status ailments, though half had already been used. Medical supplies and bandages were also limited.

The backpack held a surprising number of water bottles, likely taken from Rudy's victims, as well as basic rations: dried meat, generic Pokémon food, and some wild fruits. While not luxurious, the haul bolstered Tyson's supply reserves.

The last item was a Team Rocket badge, which Tyson found utterly useless. According to Rudy's earlier confession, a hundred participants were placed on the island for this two-month survival trial. A month had already passed. The ultimate goal wasn't just survival but accumulating points through badges.

Badges could be obtained by defeating other participants or wild Pokémon guarding them, as well as discovering them in hidden locations. The points varied depending on the badge's source. Participants carried badges worth 100 points, while those held by wild Pokémon or hidden in lairs were worth far less.

However, Tyson's situation was unique. The badge he carried was worth a staggering 1,000 points, plus an additional Pokémon reward for whoever claimed it. Killing him was equivalent to eliminating ten participants at once, making him an irresistible target.

Reflecting on this, Tyson felt fortunate for his foresight. Discarding his positioning device early had saved him from countless pursuers.

After organizing Rudy's supplies into his own backpack, Tyson left Rudy's now-empty bag to store captured Pokémon. He marveled at the advanced space-folding technology, which allowed the backpack to remain lightweight and portable despite its capacity.

Once prepared, Tyson turned his attention to the system's newly unlocked Challenge Function. It detailed the mission point rewards based on the strength of defeated Pokémon:

Beginner Level: 1 point

Competent Level: 10 points

Excellent Level: 50 points

Advanced Level: 200 points

Elite Level: 500 points

Proficient Level: 1,000 points

Pseudo-Champion Level: 2,000 points

Champion Level: 10,000 points

Legendary Level: 50,000 points

The escalating rewards were staggering, but Tyson felt a growing sense of unease. He realized that as Charmeleon and Eevee became stronger, the system would undoubtedly demand exponentially more mission points to enhance their capabilities. This feature seemed less a gift and more a cleverly disguised grind.

Resolving to act swiftly, Tyson decided against aimless wandering. Hoarding mission points was now his top priority. His initial plan had been to scout the area, eliminating rivals when necessary. However, with this new function, wild Pokémon battles became just as valuable.

From Rudy's confession, Tyson deduced that the trial's end coincided with his own timeline. His strategy was clear: leverage the Challenge Function to strengthen his Pokémon and their skills. When the trial neared its conclusion, he would ambush those gathering at the endgame, targeting unsuspecting participants and claiming their badges.

After a brief rest, Tyson stood up and called Charmeleon and Eevee to his side. Unlike Rudy, he carefully set up small traps around the cave entrance before leaving. Though these traps weren't dangerous, they would alert him to any intrusions.

Rudy had fought hard to claim this territory, ensuring wild Pokémon stayed away. If the traps were disturbed, Tyson would know someone or something had approached. This precaution would prevent him from sharing Rudy's fate.

With his preparations complete, Tyson headed deeper into the wild, determined to seize every opportunity and mission point that lay ahead.
