"That place? It might be difficult for trainers to reach it," Gan Fall wiped sweat from his forehead. His palace was high above Upper Yard, supported by a massive vine. Without a flying Pokémon, trainers would have to climb the vine, a near-impossible task.
"Gym challenges are supposed to be tough. It's not just a test for Pokémon but also for trainers. If they can't overcome this, they shouldn't dream of becoming champions," Dak explained.
The title of Champion was a unique and prestigious position, representing the pinnacle of trainers. It required not only strength but also courage, perseverance, and a fearless spirit. Gym challenges were meant to cultivate these qualities in trainers.
"Alright, I'll start preparing then. When will the island be moved?" Gan Fall asked.
"Anytime. Just let me know when you're ready. We'll place Angel City here," Dak showed him a map. The center had a red dot for the Alliance, with a blue dot for Fish-Man City in the inland sea. Dak marked a yellow dot between them in the clouds, indicating Angel City's location.
This arrangement formed a vertical triangle, making future travel between the three cities convenient.
Gan Fall quickly returned to prepare for the move, leading his closest followers in organizing the relocation and informing Angel Island's residents about Pokémon Island and its benefits. The announcement highlighted the endless "holy lands" available there.
Meanwhile, Dak returned to Upper Yard, where the Shandians were busy preparing to move into Shandora.
"Do you know the location?" Dak asked.
"We should," the Shandian chief replied, somewhat uncertain.
"Lead the way," Dak sighed. He knew where Shandora was, probably below the vine. He didn't want to damage the base of the vine, as it would ruin the aesthetic of the Flying Gym.
Fortunately, the Shandians' history had preserved the way to enter Shandora. Upon reaching the Golden City, Dak frowned. The amount of gold was overwhelming.
In the anime, Shandora seemed like a small ancient city, but in reality, it was larger, at least the size of a small town. Such a golden town might tempt trainers to turn into pirates.
"Have you considered moving?" Dak asked.
"What? We just got back here," the Shandian chief was reluctant. They had fought for four centuries to return and weren't willing to leave.
"I mean, moving the entire town. Or you'll have to replace all the gold with another material."
Dak proposed either moving Shandora to Pokémon Island, turning it into a protected scenic area, or replacing the gold to prevent future conflicts.
The Shandians could stay if they agreed to replace the gold. Otherwise, they risked constant attacks for the valuable metal.
"We prefer to stay here," the chief insisted. Their homeland was not just Shandora but the entire Upper Yard. Unless Dak moved the whole island, they wouldn't leave.
Moving the entire Upper Yard was impossible due to the dangerous tropical rainforest. Dak's Flying Gym was also there.
"Then you must replace the gold with another material," Dak insisted.
"Actually, we only care about the Golden Bell and the Golden Base. Everything else can be replaced," the chief conceded.
"That's fine. I doubt anyone can steal the bell from below the gym," Dak agreed.
"Good. We'll leave the rest to you," the chief said.
"Wait, instead of giving it to me, you should spend it yourselves," Dak suggested, stopping the chief. He preferred converting the gold into PokéCoins.
"I see your combat strength is weak. Let me introduce you to Pokémon," Dak began explaining Pokémon and their importance, even recounting the legends of Wano's three deities.
These stories fascinated the Shandians, an ancient and superstitious tribe. They eagerly bought 500 purple-quality Pokémon eggs for 50 billion berries and spent another 20 billion on supplies.
Dak earned 700 million PokéCoins easily and gained 500 Shandian trainers, who would protect Upper Yard fiercely.
The remaining gold was used to hire construction teams and buy materials to expand Shandora. The chief aimed to grow their population and land area, hoping Dak would help build a large city.
The leftover gold was given to Dak as thanks for helping them return to Upper Yard. Dak promised to have a new city built for them within a week, creating an underground iron town for safety and a white marble town named Upper Yard above, both under Shandian control.
Exchanging half the gold for two cities, Dak felt he had been generous. Others in the pirate world might have just taken the gold by force.
