Capítulo 19: Chapter 18 - The Breakup(3)

I finally walk into the training room!! That distraction took around twenty minutes, so I have to cut down on training a bit. I see there are a few people here, but none of them care about who's walking in and they are keeping to themselves. I walk to one of the empty parts of the room and sit down. I close my eyes and meditate for five minutes before taking a training sword. We aren't allowed to use personal weapons in the academy, the dorms, duels, field trips and attacks are the only exception.

I hold the sword in my hands and prepare myself. I don't know what stance I take but it feels natural.

My feet are shoulder-width apart, right foot slightly in front of the other. My knees are slightly bent while I'm holding the sword with both hands, my right hand near the hilt and the other hand further up the grip. My right hand is bent at the elbow while the sword is held in front of my body at chest height. The left arm is held slightly away from the body. My upper body is focused on the imaginary opponent in front of me. For some reason I picture myself... that might be unhealthy.

The surroundings disappear as I start swinging my sword. Slashing, stabbing, parrying, stabbing and dodging. There are a few more movements involved. My concentration breaks when I feel my arm vibrating. I look down and it's my watch. I set a half an hour timer. Classes start at 8 in the morning and I woke up at 5 so I had to set timers to not be late.

I take a break. After leaving the sword back in the weapons section I take a bow along with a few arrows before sitting down. I meditate for another ten minutes before standing up and moving to the archery section. There are targets for those who focus on ranged combat. You can set the difficulty.

"Let's see, there are 15 levels, the record is level 8 so let's start with level 3 and increase from there." I set the targets to level 3 and start shooting. Levels one to three are insanely easy compared to the next levels. The targets here don't move, the distance just increases. It is for beginners to teach basic drills and how to shoot an arrow.

To pass a level you need to have an accuracy of over 90%. It takes me five minutes to move to level four. At level 4 the targets start moving. The speed keeps increasing with the levels. Level 4 is harder compared to the one before. I fail the first time I try. I fail the second and third time. I'm on my fifth try when my alarm rings. That means I have forty minutes before my first class. I reluctantly leave the bow and arrow in its place before leaving. My talent with ranged weapons isn't that great. It makes sense, my skill in [Ranged combat] is only level 2.

I rush to the dorm, have a shower, and choose a slightly loose uniform. Are you really training yourself if you don't have some sort of body dysmorphia? Don't answer that!

I have ten minutes before the first period so I make my way to the first class of the day. When I walk into the room, there are a few people already there. They glance at me before losing interest and returning to their conversation. My usual place is wherever there's a chair available so I take the loners chair. The one at the back of the classroom, at one of the edges. I choose the one closest to the window so I can daydream.

A day in the academy is ten hours. The first three hours are for the normal classes like language, history, geography, and all the other things. These classes end at 11, then there's a one-hour break. After the break, there's a class on mana or martial arts, depending on who the teacher is. These classes can range from a single hour to six hours maximum.

Classes drag on and it's simultaneously too fast and too slow for me. When the break starts I go to the cafeteria, get my normal meal, the free one, and go to sit at the normal table. It takes five minutes for a familiar face to sit beside me. Ray sits beside me without saying a word. I always admired the way he carries himself, not a hint of emotion. I have the skill too so It's only a matter of time before I get the same thing.

"How was your vacation?" Ray starts the conversation. I can feel the guilt in his voice, he feels bad for telling me about Kate... or he was railing her too. Whichever one it was, I don't know how to feel about the second one though.

"It was... interesting." Taking a break after your girlfriend cheats on you, then awakening, finding out your parents are rich but your father's cheating on your mother and then your best friend is in love with you. Surprisingly, not as stressful as I thought it would be. I only had like four mental breakdowns. I would say an average month.

"Hmm." Awkward. We both eat in silence. I don't have anything to say and his guilt is gonna take anything I say out of context. "I... I'm sorry"

He's glaring at the meal in front of him. Well, that didn't take long, only six minutes and three seconds. I expected this to take days.

"It's fine. It's better that I know about it rather than going ahead with my original plan."

"Original plan?"

"Love, marriage, white picket fence."

"White picket fence, what the hell is that?"

"You know what hell is but not a white picket fence?"

"... Why are we friends?"

"Deja vu."

"Are you gon-"

"Were you ever in that room?"

"What?"

"You heard me."

"I..." Why is his personality so inconsistent? He was always stoic and never gave a fuck what everyone else said about him. He seems like someone afraid of everything around him right now. Am I that scary? Is it the awakened aura? I don't know what it is since I haven't been to the class for awakeners but we emit an aura. Only other awakeners can recognise it but normal humans will feel a type of fear or suppression.

"It's a yes or no question? It's not teleporting science."

"Yes. I've been in that room multiple times." There we go. I had a suspicion but I had to ask. I'm disappointed, disappointed I had expectations of him.

"Sigh. I knew it." I go back to playing with my food. Ray looks between his food and me multiple times before excusing himself. I don't say anything. Why must I always be disappointed? Hah, kidding. I don't have the victimisation mindset. I blame myself for not seeing through this shit earlier.

I look around the cafeteria and thanks to my enhanced... everything, I can see the stares coming my way. Mocking, it's mostly from the males here but I can see sympathy from the females, some snickering and even pity. Hah! This means everyone knew she was the village bicycle and no one told me. The teachers know too, there's no way they don't. I saw the way the Vice-Principal looked at me.

I guess I'm the laughingstock of the school. Is this why no one at home likes Kate or even thought our relationship would make it past high school? They were right but did they know she was like this or is it more because they know what her mother is like? It's weird, even though I'm the one that's enhanced I was the idiot who couldn't see he was being NTR'd multiple times every damn day. Haaahhhhhh. Calm down, it's over, almost over. Ah, here comes the woman of the hour.

"Seth!!" The girl jumps, expecting me to catch her. I simply move my chair and she slides on the floor. There's a pin-drop silence in the cafeteria. They didn't expect the naive Seth to act like that.
