Chapter 66: The Play (X).
As the kingdom searched all that they could to find their princess, little did they know- that she was having the best time of her life. The princess walks onto the road to one of the frog prince's villages.
Who knew that they were just a few days close from hers!
And the view from the carriage all the way to see the fields of grass, the gentle breeze blowing her hair.
It was all a new feeling.
"So Mr. Frog, the village ahead of us will be having a festival?" The princess and the frog walked together, in this case Analissa was hopping rather slowly on the stage. Her legs could collapse at any moment-
"Yes, it's one of the villages that my kingdom owns. It's the moon festival, praising and thanking the moon for the light it gives in the darkness of the night and we believe celestial beings watch over us using that form."
"Sounds like a lovely festival."
"It's alright but what I really love about it is the festival will start at night."
…
The students managed to change into the next background setting for a few minutes. They planned on making a very high detailed setting, each one of the background people have practiced for this particular handling.
The crowd was left to wait.
Farrah tilts her head and couldn't help muttering out her thoughts. "So they managed to actually escape? I'm not sure if the princess will be able to handle and adapt into the commoner life so easily."
Lord Sel- well, in this case Lord Ein coughs hearing her words. Sure- that might be a small thing he forgot but that's not important. They could only fit so much in a two hour play. "Oh that, well the scriptwriter didn't really include that problem. This is one of those that fell in love in just a week of romance, the whole romance fiction shebang."
Farrah was even more confused.
Ever since she was little, everyone has told her- to really love someone is to know them better. There is no such thing as love at first sight. How can you love someone just seeing them?
"That's… can someone really just fall in love for just one week?" (Farrah) asks, not meaning to offend but she was just curious.
Lord Ein answers with a nod. That kind of love… can hurt you in the long run but it teaches you a lesson you'll never forget. "Mm if your heart is set on that person, it can turn into interest, a relationship and a proper permanent bond. Have you ever had a person that is always on your mind? No matter what you do- they're always living in your head?"
Farrah thinks for a moment and the figure of a blonde girl pops out.
Lord Ein smirks, seeing her flushed rosy cheeks it seems that this young woman has someone in her heart already. How wonderful is that?
"Say from the look on the expression on your face I think you've got someone in mind, young miss?" He asks and Farrah quickly averts her face out of shyness.
"I-I… well there is someone I am interested in after we met for a short amount of time." (Farrah) holds her komalpa bread, a treat that was similar to a croissant. Everytime she remembers Analissa's happy face and the compliment that she gave it would always make her heart beat fast for some unknown reason. "She's kind, considerate and has the brightest smile I have ever seen. The way she eats reminds me of my old pet hamster, hamham."
Lord Ein chuckles hearing of another maiden's tale of falling in love and getting a little envious of it. "Dear me, now I'm getting interested in your little crush rather than the play."
"I-It is nothing, milord. I don't… think she even feels the same way about me at the moment."
"I hope you get to know that person more and see if your love for them is true."
"Thank you, milord." She thanks the strange noble who focuses his attention back at the play.
"Oh here comes the best part, this is when the princess and the frog dance together at the festival in the night!"
…
The curtains open to reveal a lovely and bright village where Lady Evelyn was acting as innocent and curious as she can.
"The town is so lively!" She walks over to one of the stalls who offers her a load of bread that was a proper prop.
"Bread for the beautiful lady?" He asks and soon the other joins in with their offers.
"No, why don't I offer you a discount on the fish?"
"A rare gem of this necklace suits you!"
Lady Evelyn was acting perfectly as an aloof girl in a new town.
This part was also a musical so she needed to sing, "Ever since I've come to this town~ it's been nothing but welcoming!"
"A lovely day at the moon festival~ their generosity is freeing!" The whole musical starts and in this scene the frog was supposed to dance with the princess.
"In the kingdom where I grew up! I have to say I agree! Everyone is celebrating, parties like no other and the night is even so much better!" (Analissa) was very… so thankful for practice.
Or else that would not have sounded so good.
Everyone listened in and was actually enjoying it. Though the nobles in the VIP boxes were scoffing due to the silliness of the play, please as if leaving the royal family is a good choice!
The student who made or even suggested this script needs some punishment!
"From the food, to the people and the music! I missed this! Come dance with me, princess!" (Analissa) holds Lady Evelyn's hand to dance on the stage. A wild festival dance of the commoners, one would say. It was a freeing move, the women were allowed to jump with the men as they skipped a few steps just to have fun.
'Oh god kill me now I'm tired of this costume.' (Analissa) was dying inside her costume.
Meanwhile Lady Evelyn was complimenting the heroine's dancing skills despite not having proper training with her at all.
'I never knew Miss Blanchet is a good dancer. She… must've watched our rehearsals and practiced so many times to remember everything.' Despite all the troubles and their main star missing, the villainess was actually having fun.
'Damn you, Lord Ein!' (Analissa) was not but horny braincell is currently simping for Lady Evelyn in a princess dress at least.
They danced until their feet were tired, the princess took some of her money to buy some simple food you can eat- hot steamed potatoes.
It was simple but also filling.
"The princess and the frog happily attended the festivities, ate their fill and learned that the world beyond those castle walls was a vast one." The princess' views of the frog became even brighter that day. The narrator finishes reading and soon, the village scene introduction scene is over.
…
"Scene change!"
The curtain changes into an inn where the princess rented a room. She and the frog sat down on the bed laughing and feeling tired from all the adrenaline and happiness that they've felt.
"I have never danced wildly like that before, Mr. Frog. I have never dreamed in my life that a princess like me can ever dance with the others."
"So have I, that was only my second time doing it. When I was a prince I didn't get much freedom- more like I was just like you unable to leave the castle but only because I thought the outside world could never offer me anything important. Then I became like this, traveled, met kind people and even some not so good ones."
Analissa turns to the villainess, with a smile underneath her costume. "I learned a lot from being cursed, I saw my people happy and… realized how they're just like me. They're trying to live their best life."
"Mr. Frog… you know I'm really glad I escaped my home. I didn't have to marry anyone I liked and I could freely eat anything, talk anyway I wanted and dance wildly without fear of other people's opinions."
"I'm glad you're happy. This… is the first time feeling something like this too. Ever since we've met I don't feel alone in the world anymore." (Lady Evelyn) stares at the costume for a moment and contemplates everything.
The realization at this festival.
She wanted to be greedy just this once.
"Thank you for giving me this chance." (Lady Evelyn) places her hand on the frog's one. This gesture was not on script, this- she was doing this because she wanted to.
Analissa sees that the villainess' hands were on hers and gulped, trying to follow up the lines. "...You deserve to see the world with your eyes."
"I'm glad… I got to see it with you."
"... goodnight, princess."
The half of the curtain closes and everyone takes a moment of silence of how that whole scene just melted through their hearts. How wholesome it was for the frog prince forgetting his own mission, just to make the princess happy for her own sake.
"That was beautiful."
"Yes, even if the topic of someone of royalty escaping this is truly a forbidden love story in the making and I'm eating all of it up."
"Mm, I wonder what's going to happen next?"
…
Almost half of the play was almost over and now they can do the next part of the scene.
The part of the inn set was now the closed part of the stage while the other was the front register of the inn.
Showing the actor for the innkeeper, faking smoking with their magic and reading something. "Hey you know that girl who got in one of our rooms?"
He asks a buddy of his and shows disinterest in a customer in his inn. "Yeah, the real pretty one, what about it?"
"I think she's the missing princess that everyone is looking for. Whoever finds her will have a huge reward!" He showed him the missing poster of the princess in the neighboring kingdom and shook his head in disbelief.
"The princess who went missing at her own marriage?! What's she doing here so far away?"
"I don't know what I want that money, it says whoever finds her safe and sound will get a million gold from the king."
"A million gold, damn how do we make sure she's even the right girl? If we make a mistake we'll be taken to jail for sure."
"Trust me on this, brother. I know my missing posters and she's that runaway bride." The innkeeper chuckles, taking his cigarette and burning down the part of the bounty reward. "We take her in the morning."
…
The morning came and the frog was the first one to be awake. She sees the beautiful princess softly breathing and smiles at the view.
Certainly she tired herself from all that wild dancing.
He hops over to the side of the bed carefully trying to not wake her up when-
Knock! Knock! Knock!
"...!" The frog immediately jumped into the table and decided to ignore those loud knowing but it woke the princess up.
"Huh?" She wipes the stars in her eyes and stands up from the bed. "Yawn… Who is it?"
No one answers, and due to the princess' innocence and half awake state she opens the door to reveal the innkeeper and one of his buddies.
"Princess, come back here-!" The frog tried to warn her that something was wrong.
The stranger leaned over the door so that she couldn't easily close it. "Hello there, little girl. Are you… lost?"
The princess shakes her head, "No… I'm not."
"I'm sorry about this but you just look a lot like this princess in this wanted poster, you see." The landlord shows her the missing poster of the drawn princess on the portrait and her stomach drops. "And we have reason to believe that you're this girl."
She backs away slowly from the door, realizing her identity was compromised. "Oh I just probably have one of those faces. Hahaha… if you don't mind I'll just be getting some more sleep."
Squeak…
She tries closing the door but the innkeeper wouldn't take no for an answer and started pulling her wrist.
"W-What are you doing?! Unhand me at once!" She orders the landlord to unhand her immediately, he did not listen.
"We definitely got the right one, she's the princess!"
"Jackpot on that money!"
"Princess!" The frog leaps up to their faces and starts doing his best to defend the girl by using his sticky webbed feet to poke their eyes out.
"Ugh-! There was a frog in the room?! And it poked my eyes!"
"Run!"
The princess quickly took her things and pushed the bad guy away from the door. Lady Evelyn holds Analissa's hand from this scene, running away from their capturers.
"I think we're safe-!"
Only to find that the inn was surrounded by guards.
"Mr. Frog, what should we do?"
"I'll just blind every single one of them-" But deep inside he knew that he was probably fucked because the guards were wearing some hard metal helmet that he can't penetrate through.
The frog hops over to fight one of the guards, but he was kicked horribly just after being seen.
"Ew a frog!"
"Mr. Frog!"
"Ngh!"
"Disgusting is that the same frog from the ball?" He walked over to the injured frog and was slowly stepping on its body. It was the power hungry Duke, who has been looking for the princess all over the kingdoms. "I've been looking all over for you, but turns out you're not too far away."
"How are you here- Duke of the north?!"
"The Prince of this kingdom has been helping me track any recent visitors and I'm glad we got you now." He brags and the frog prince blinks in realization that his little brother led him to his doom.
"Do you know how I felt after you humiliated me at my wedding? Whether you like it or not you're going back to that altar and you'll be my wife." He eyes the cowering princess as he yells. "So that I can be KING!"
The princess struggles to break free from his hold and finally, she goes past her breaking point.
"No!"
"What did you just say to me?"
"I said no! I won't be your wife because I love someone else!" The princess declares, with no fear in her eyes only saying the truth she feels.
"And he's far more funny, interesting, caring and amazing than you! He showed me the world that I've been wanting to see for so many years-" She hopelessly turns to Analissa who was in the frog costume and bravely smiles. "And you want nothing but the crown."
The Duke laughs cockily, staring at her like the very trash that she is in his eyes.
He would rather marry a woman of a red district background than this. "I already paid for that position, but your daddy dearest will only give me that position if I marry someone from his disgusting royal blood."
"And how unfortunate for me that the only daughter they have is you."
The princess stands her ground, "I refuse."
Slap!
…
"Gasp!"
Everyone who was in the theater was shocked at how crispy and hard that slap was. A man slapping a woman just to feel powerful and better about himself?!
A few noblewomen who were watching lowered their heads down, to stop their tears because that specific scene hit close to home.
"Oh damn for some reason, Lady Evelyn is giving it her all compared to the first day of the play."
"I have never seen, milady pour out this much emotion."
"That slap though seemed real, both actors are amazing!"
The audience was eating everything up, for some reason this second day of the festival play was truly even more better than the first!
…
"You will not refuse to be wedded to ME. You will have a second chance, my forgiveness is not easily earned." The slap was truly personal, the Duke wanted nothing more but to dispose of the girl to get what he wanted.
The crown.
"And I tire of your useless running. You will marry me, whether you like it or not, the wedding is still happening."
The story… just got even more intense.
