Chapter 256: Sabo vs Fujitora
"She's gone…" Nami said.
"This can't be!" Sabo looked around the beach but only saw the two Admirals.
Observation haki was not his strong suit but he was at least able to pick up any close-by strong auras.
He could not feel a single trace of her.
Admiral Fujitora unsheathed his sword and walked towards them.
"We need to leave." Sabo grabbed Nami and helped her stand up.
"I can't leave! Vivi is!..." Nami did not know what to say.
Vivi was dead. But there was something inside telling her to not lose hope.
Sabo looked down at her steel cuffs and broke the chain using a single finger.
"There is nothing we can do for her…"
Sabo could sympathize with the girl, he had lost a few comrades in the past and it doesn't get easy.
He had only known Vivi for a short time but was looking forward to talking some more with her. He wanted to meet the crew his brother had chosen to accompany him on his long journey.
Sabo pushed those thoughts to the back of his mind. They had more urgent things to worry about now. Two marine Admirals were going after them.
He wasn't confident in defeating even one of the Admirals by himself, only Dragon had achieved such a level of power.
"We can't stay here and I can't fight two Admirals! I have already requested backup but is going to take at least an hour for them to land the ship. We need to escape for that long at least. " Explained Sabo as he took Nami in his arms.
The city was now in chaos.
Luffy and his crew were fighting against the Doflamingo family and the former princess Rebeca had a small army of rebels fighting against the current royal army.
The Marines stationed on the island had not gotten involved yet but that was just a matter of time.
'If we can make it into the city we can blend into the whole commotions.' concluded Sabo.
He looked back once more, expecting to see Fujitora but the Admiral had disappeared. He could only catch a glance of Kizaru, who had not moved from the spot before he felt some movement around him.
When he moved his eyes up, he saw the image of Fujitora floating in the air. The Admiral then moves his blade in a smooth motion.
Thanks to his honed instincts, Sabo was able to get his left arm out of the way before it was cut by a wind blade created by the blind man.
He shifted his weight and bent his legs, preparing to jump away as fast as he could, but then he felt his body getting much heavier and his boots started to skin into the sand.
"Is this his devil fruit?" Sabo said while attempting to move with much difficulty.
Fujitora landed right behind him, cutting his escape route.
"Is not that simple to get away from me." the Admiral spoke.
The high gravity was making Sabo sink into the sand more and more.
"Don't underestimate me. I was not made Chief of Staff just for my charming smile."
His legs transformed into pure lighting, freeing themselves from the sand, and then propelled himself out of the high gravity area created by Fujitora while carrying Nami with him.
While still in the air he extended his free hand and unleashed a powerful lighting bolt, forcing the Admiral to protect himself with his sword.
"You have acquired a very dangerous power…I warned Doflamingo it was foolish to have a fruit like that as a tournament price."
Sabo landed some distance away and grinned.
"Yes, I'm really liking my new abilities. I'm just starting to get the hang of them."
"Very impressive that you can use your devil fruit like this in such a short time. "Commented Fujitora.
A shadow appeared over Sabo and Nami.
They both looked up and stared in shock at the meteorite about to fall on their heads.
"Flash steps!" Sabo used his fastest movement technique to avoid being crushed by the meteor.
The giant rock made contact with the sand, creating a shockwave that made them disoriented for a moment.
A chance that Fujitora did not miss.
"Guravito!" The Admiral could manipulate gravity in any direction so he used it to push himself horizontally. This allows him to move at a tremendous speed and close the gap between him and Sabo in a mere fraction of a second.
"Dragon claw." Sabo stopped the blade with his fingers and kicked the blind man away.
"Put me down!" Demanded Nami.
"You can't fight him while carrying me."
Sabo had to agree with that so he put Nami back on the ground.
Not that his idea was to fight this man to begin with, but it seems that running away was not going to be an option.
'Can I stand my ground until those guys get here?' He wasn't sure of that but his options were getting limited.
Of course, he would have a high chance of escaping if he left Nami behind and ran by himself while using his lighting ability but that was something that Sabo didn't even consider.
His brother had already lost one crewmate, he was going to protect this one with all he got.
"Alright, come at me!" Shouted Sabo.
Fujitora took a step and then stopped and looked around.
The blind Admiral was the first one to notice the change.
It started with a mild shock, but then… the ground started to shake with more violence.
"An earthquake! is he doing this?" Exclaimed Nami.
"Judging by the expression on his face…I'm going with…no." Said Sabo.
The trembling got even more violent now.
Even the marines that Sabo had knocked out woke up and looked around them with worry.
"Issho!" screamed Kizaru.
"I think she-"
Before he could finish his sentence, he was interrupted by the loud noises of the water behind him.
"Ohh no…" was all he could say.
