Chapter 17

Title: Garp's Perspective on Strength...

….

Opening my eyes, it felt like a plane had hit me on my head. My skull almost felt like it had a cavity in it.

But as I opened my eyes I saw Garp sleeping while standing up and was eating crackers, his body moving automatically.

Honestly, I like Garp, but I would love to not see his face as soon as I wake up. That kinda annoyed me, this guy just bashed my head.

Should I want to retaliate? Well, it was tempting, but if he woke up then the next time I woke up my brain damage would make me another Luffy.

Damn, it was so tempting to just get on my hybrid bear form and punch the man! Should I do it? No, no, must stay calm now.

Looking around I saw the infirmary around me, there weren't any other patients here. Which was a little surprising, but being in a ship with Garp had its boons too, except if you were someone like me of course.

Suddenly Garp yawned and stretched subconsciously bringing his fists down on me. Immediately I roll to the side and off the bed.

BOOOOOM!

His fists smash down on the bed, destroying it and its parts flying all around.

Holy shìt!! If I was asleep I would be dead! Being around this guy is a health hazard! Why did the doctor even let the man in?!

"Ugh," he grumbled, "Oh, Max, are you awake?"

"I would be dead if I wasn't," I answered him stoically, I'm too mad to try and smile politely so this was the best I could do to not lash out at the old man.

He had the decency to look at the wrecked bed and sheepishly scratch the back of his head. "Sorry about that," he then clenched his fist and smirked, "Anyway, ready for some training?"

Yeah… he didn't even bother to keep up his apologetic act for even a second. I know he isn't sorry, he will probably forget the whole ordeal by tomorrow.

"Yeah, I am ready." Honestly, could I even refuse him? Nah, it would probably lead to some kind of training where he sneak attacked me restlessly. Garp doesn't take No for an answer, it's either his way or no way.

I spent the rest of the better part of a week training under Garp. Though I had been training Haki before even meeting Garp every method that Rayleigh trained Luffy, it never was my main focus as I was still trying to build up a strong body first.

Well, at least I learned Observation Haki during my time with Garp. It was the kind of situation that I either learn or die, and that made me learn damn fast. Armament Haki too, though the thing is still gamey as sometimes it appears and sometimes it doesn't.

Today was another day like that, with me laying on the ground and Garp grinning at my downed form.

"I am a really good teacher. You already got the hand of Observation Haki." Garp congratulated himself, "Max, guys like you have a good mindset to learn Observation Haki, but only because I was a damn good teacher did you succeed. Okay, everyone! We are having a feast to my great teaching skills!"

He then walked off to do whatever and his presence disappeared.

Fwish!

Immediately I jump up and dodge as Garp's fist plants through the wood where my head used to be. "Hahaha, you are learning brat!"

"Why do you always aim for the head old man, you might turn me into your stupid grandson one day," I smirked at him, and Garp seemed to fume. I said all that knowing that only he can call Luffy stupid, if anyone else insulted his grandson then they would be hit.

The old Vice Admiral charged at me with speeds that should be impossible for old men like him, and then he punched at me, dozens of afterimages of his punch appeared too. Each of them packed a punch, but by using Observation Haki I could tell their trajectories and dodge the attack.

Baam!

But the next thing I feel was Garp's other fist sinking into my gut. "You finally found some backbone, you brat."

I couldn't tell if that was an insult or a compliment, but I saw a smirk on his face as my body propelled backward.

Today I wasn't using my Devil Fruit so unlike usual, I couldn't stop myself from falling into the seawater. Using <Geppo> would have saved me, but currently, a double jump was the best I could use it at. Even though my physical strength was up to par, my body control wasn't, but it would be soon.

"Use Tekkai!!" Yelled out Garp as I saw a cannonball flying towards me, it was faster than a normal one so it was probably thrown by the old monster himself.

But the most important thing here is that… I think he forgot that I never was taught Tekkai!

BOOOOOM!!!

It hits point-blank and I was covered by the explosion, thankfully at the last second, I had used my hybrid form, so the damage was lessened.

Still, as soon as I fell into the sea, my body felt powerless and started sinking like a hammer.

I could still pick up the Sea King's presence behind me, and it was a big one, bigger than my ship by at least a hundred times. As it swallowed me, I felt a release, because sooner or later I could get out and hopefully reach some island.

Ever since I came to this world, working hard hadn't been a problem, I don't mind it, but with Garp, it's a whole other deal, he takes liberty with my life. Every training session could be my last, no day is a rest day, even sleeping depends if Garp was bored or not. His philosophy was that as long as an old man like him could do all that, then there was no excuse for a young man like me. Except he didn't accept that he himself was a damn monster that only needed hours of sleep to be back in top shape.

BOOOOM!

Suddenly the head that had swallowed me exploded and Garp's smiling figure greeted me. Something that I have started to not like at all.

Honestly, I wonder which was safer, the Sea King's stomach, or Garp's training.

He grabbed my hand and jumped off, in one leap getting above water.

"I got him!" Yelled out Garp and I see Negan's and Ray's worried expressions soften once they saw me safely land on the deck.

"Are you okay?" Asked Ray as her hands gently wiped off the sea king saliva on my face.

I nodded. "Wouldn't have minded staying some more in there, it was comfortable."

"Boss man, we will soon reach the Grand Line. The part that they call the New World." Negan informed me.

Right, if we go through the Calm Belt from the North Blue, then we would reach the New World.

"Okay, everyone else go away. Max needs his time to do some stretches. His body rested enough while on that sea king's mouth." Garp showed everyone off as he slapped my face. "C'mon now, wake up. You had your rest already."

Right… I was only in that Sea King's mouth for some seconds a minute at best yet he already wants me to get back to training.

"Hey, I know how you Zoans work. This lizard guy, or was it fish? Anyway, this guy could fight for days, no, weeks and he would never get tired," Garp kept explaining some story to me, about this fish/lizard guy that he used in every one of his stories when talking about Zoan Type Devil Fruits. I don't know who the hell he is talking about, but sure as hell am 100% sure that isn't how Zoans work. "So yeah, I mean he doesn't even get injured by most attacks so it doesn't matter."

Wait… is he talking about Kaido? Don't compare me to Kaido, old man!! Also what the hell, he is monstrous, and that wasn't how Zoans work.

I wanted to yell all of that at him, but it would probably earn me a punch and he would say something like 'You don't know what you are talking about' and that would be true if I hadn't seen the Anime and read the Manga, but goddamn, Garp was way too headstrong in this.

"SIR!! We have got sight on the RED HAIR PIRATES!!" Yelled out one of the marines.

Garp's smiley face turned into a frown. "Red Hair… the man who filled Luffy's mind with all that nonsense…"

He then got up and started walking away. "Everyone!! Get ready for battle!"

"..." I wanted to swear so loud right now...

PENSAMENTOS DOS CRIADORES

Garp has been fighting monsters for so long that his perspective on certain things is different from most people. I mean in the Manga he called Luffy's 1.5 billion bounty as nothing but the small league.

Chapter 18

Title: Unexpected Situation...

….

Watching the Red Hair Pirates ship approaching us wasn't good at all. Mostly because Garp was annoyed as hell and when he was in that state of mind, he crushed things around him.

Still, though, the old man was throwing cannonballs like we were playing baseball, and each of those would destroy any ship, his aim was impeccable.

But there was when all of that amazement ended because Shanks wasn't any other two-bit pirate.

Pow!

A gunshot rang out from Shank's ship.

BOOOOOM!!!

The cannonball in Garp's hand exploded, someone had shot it from Shank's ship, some damn good sniper too. It probably was Usopp's father.

The old Vice-Admiral wasn't hurt, but the ship was a little damaged and so were some of the crew members that were around him.  This pissed off Garp, seeing his marine crew on the ground and groaning in pain.

"These bastards! I am going to sink them all!" Yelled out Garp in anger, suddenly he leaps off the ship and straight towards the Red Hair Pirates. At this time, suddenly a storm came out of nowhere and the waves rose so high that they seemed to reach the sky.

"Everyone, don't worry about Garp! Make sure our ships aren't sunk!" Yelled out a man wearing a fedora and suit, he usually had a grumpy look, but today he took charge.

I just looked at all of this from the sidelines,

BOOOOM!

A gigantic wave was cut in half, I didn't see the slash or who attacked. Only the man in the fedora was now putting his katana back in its scabbard.

Should I jump off to help Garp? Nah, I would probably get hit by a wave and drown to death before even doing something of a difference. Well getting myself killed would be a difference, just not a big one.

Also, did I just fúck up the timeline? Garp came to get me from North Blue and met Shanks coincidentally in the sea, this didn't happen in the original story.

If one of them dies then I can say goodbye to my future knowledge.

*sigh* Why can't life ever be easy? Though, I guess I did choose this all for myself. Instead of living a peaceful life, I choose this instead.

Plus recently I started feeling proud for learning Haki, but now… yeah, that little confidence disappeared in the wind. I was severely outclassed here, I had no bearing in such a battle.

It wasn't just me, I could see that even my closest confidants, Negan and Raynare were terrified too. This wasn't a battle for people of our level. We couldn't distinguish ourselves here, and if we interfered, all of us would be some side character who died uselessly.

I couldn't see what went on between Garp and Shanks on the latter's ship. But by using my Observation Haki, I could sense their attacks, but they didn't seem to connect, yet the damage they caused was enormous.

The sea shook from their power clashing, even the clouds were moving erratically.

….

Ten days, that was how long the battle between Shanks and his crew against Garp lasted, I was confident that they were going easy on him, not wanting to kill Luffy's grandfather. The old man was strong, but he wasn't strong enough to battle a Yonko, his commanders, and crew all alone for ten days straight.

Many marines had died due to the storm, and on the 10th day, Garp had backed off from the Red Hair's ship.

During the commotion, I had been too busy to try and look for some kind of safety, that I never even bothered to think of my men. After all, my life was in danger too, more so than theirs, because if I fell in the water then I would be domed.

"Ray, call Negan. We need to get the men back on order." I called over my cute 3rd in command, Garp was injured and would be sleeping for most of the time. The old man had no grave injuries but some slashes here and there, plus some bleeding from his nose and mouth.

"Sir… Negan… he…" Ray looked at me reluctantly, like she didn't want to say something.

My hand clenched involuntarily, that was the only outward expression I would allow myself to grieve my good and trusted friend. Eventually, I had planned for him to have the Lightning Fruit, but… he went up and died in some unknown battle with an unknown name to the world. All of this happened because Garp went and fought Shanks unprepared and recklessly.

If this was in the Manga, I would have just enjoyed it as some marines fell in the water and the awesome fight went one. But one of those nameless marines was my best friend who died because of Garp's carelessness.

"Is he dead?" I asked her to confirm.

The shaky nod that she gave was all that I needed. "Though the body hasn't been found, he has been declared dead."

Right now I was tempted to go and slit Garp's throat while he was injured. It was probably the last chance I will ever get to kill someone like him, Shanks can be taken care of later.

But, I wasn't a man of revenge, plus if I killed Garp the chances of my death just skyrocketed. After all, the new world wouldn't treat weak people like me nicely.

Negan… to die like this… damn it!!!

...

One week later I had moved in my ships as Garp escorted us to the Red Line. Usually, I would never even bother with a weapon to master, since my only concern had been strengthening my body and learning Haki.

But taking Negan's spiked bat as my own was more of a semblance thing. I will master this weapon. I will never grieve or cry for him, I will probably make friends like him sooner rather than later. Still, this spiked bat is my tribute to a man who died too early, he was meant for so much more in my plans.

"Ray, from now on I want you to be my right hand," I tell my now only semi-trustworthy crew member. She looked at me sadly but nodded anyway.

"Yes… we will make this work." I heard her whisper as she walked away. Lately, I have been training privately in my room, my men have taken it as grieving for my best friend. Well, I didn't bother to change their notions.

Still, though, I played my confidence as any leader should. This side of the world was too much for us, even with Garp's protection. At least my anger was able to help me quite a lot in mastering Armament Haki and can now harden my arms with Haki more times than not.

"Sir we have sight of the Red Line!" Yelled out Skinny Joey… well, Fat Joey died too… so I guess Skinny Joey was now just Joey. Damn, what a tragedy.

..

It was a majestic sight for what essentially was just another big rock. But then again, everything in the world could be classified as a big rock.

It's like a giant wall that went far above the clouds with seemingly no end in sight.

But while others might seem amazed by it, I only have one thought in mind. How strong do I have to be to crush something like that under my fists? Can Kaido's most powerful attack pierce right through it?

So many questions, but all of them are useless for someone of my current strength. I would barely put a dent in the thing even when using my strongest attack.

"So we are going to go up the wall right?" I ask my new person in 2nd command.

"Yep," Raynare answered, "We will move up the wall by elevator and our ships will be moved to the other side too. Though I don't know how."

I nodded. "Well, anyway, stick close to me, Raynare."

She looked at me, and for the first time in a while, she didn't blush and instead nodded her head in confirmation. It seemed like the little girl was growing. No longer was she confused with her role in this world. Though I guess that would be due to me, confidence inspires confidence, I fake mine and she believes in it.

….

-Change POV-

Saint Shalria liked to consider herself above the normal humans of the trash below the heaven she lived on.

Currently, she was atop a giant man slave that she used as a horse, even had a chain around his neck. A dozen men in dark suits also followed her, for protection.

Like other World Nobles, Sharlia was dressed in a thick white suit with medal-like knobs which supplied her with oxygen to save her sharing the same air as commoners. The collar of her suit has a flower-like pattern with lace at the top. The flower pattern on her suit repeats at the sides of her skirt. Her hair inside the bubble was styled upwards, forming a curl above her head. She wore a veil over the lower half of her face and light orange-tinted shades over her eyes. She also wore heart-shaped earrings.

'Today is a good day.' She thought, 'Though it's a little boring.'

But those thoughts didn't last for long, as she saw a marine in a captain's uniform, he had slightly spiky brown hair, and his face wasn't bad looking. Spending all of her days with her relatives and guards who would have chosen other carriers if they had good looks, so to her, the young marine was quite good-looking. Also, he seemed young… just as she liked them.

Alongside her was another petite man, who used their marine hat to over their eyes. They looked too weak to her tastes though.

"You, there, come, let's go to my bedroom!" She yelled out her order.

The man stopped and smiled at the young Celestial Dragon. "Hi, my name is Max, and I don't really go out with loose women. Plus, there needs to be a date before we do something like that. What can I say? I am a sucker for romance."

The enraged look that appeared on her face was something that the young Celestial Dragon had ever experienced.

Her bodyguards didn't need to be given orders as they immediately used <Soru> kicking off the ground at incredible speeds towards Max, ready to subdue or kill the man in an instant.

....

PENSAMENTOS DOS CRIADORES
HolyJoker HolyJoker

I thought about this a lot and how it will affect Max.

P.S: Yeah, Max was angry as hell at Negan's death. He even contemplated killing Garp right there and then. That's something very illogical that he usually wouldn't do, but yeah... he was super close to ending Garp.
