Capítulo 19: Normal Night at the Inn
The boy went into the kitchen, his mother was preparing the food, but his father was nowhere to be seen. He heard his father's laughter from the outside. He opened the backdoor of the kitchen, he saw his father talking with the fisherman. Seeing how immersed they were in talking, he decided to inform him after the fisherman left.
He carefully picked up the prepared dish and went out.
Leo's eyes were impatiently looking at the kitchen door. When he saw the boy coming out his eyes shone brightly.
The girl, Mary, felt relieved seeing her brother, Gary, bringing the food. Keeping an eye on Leo was very exhausting because at every chance Leo attempted at Bolt's food.
In just a short time Leo finished the new dish. "Keep bringing the food until I say no," Leo said.
Mary and Gary were again shocked at the monstrous speed of Leo's eating.
The boy went back into the kitchen to bring the food.
As time passed Leo's speed of eating increased instead of decreasing.
Now he was eating so fast that, Mary also had to join her brother in bringing the food. Their mother couldn't keep with Leo's eating speed, so they called their father. Now both of them were preparing the food as fast as they could.
Mary and Gary were practically running to and fro between the kitchen and their table.
The commotion at their table attracted the other guests' attention. They were shocked when they saw how fast Leo was eating, and after some time they were even more shocked because the amount of food he was eating was impossible, they couldn't understand how so much food could be stuffed into that small stomach. "How is this possible?" That was the only question on their mind.
Once the guests started looking at Leo, they couldn't move their eyes from him, not because of how abnormal his eating was, but because of how content and happy he looked while eating, they felt envious and sad at the same time. They couldn't even remember the last time they ate like that boy. Now food has just become the necessity to keep them alive. They didn't know if they ever be able to eat like this, so they kept looking at him to find that joy through him.
Inside the kitchen the innkeeper and his wife were tired, but at the same time, a smile kept blossoming on their face, because today they were going to earn big.
As for Mary and Gary, they didn't care about the money, they just wished for Leo to stop eating, their legs were killing them from all the running.
Bolt was sitting relaxed, he was already full. When he saw how the brother-sister pair was tired, he pitied them for having to serve this beast.
After some time the brother-sister pair almost decided to give up, but thankfully Leo stopped. "Now, I am full. This feels better," Leo said with satisfaction while moving his hand over his flat stomach.
Hearing this the brother-sister pair immediately sat down on the stools near them. They were breathing heavily.
Inside the kitchen innkeeper and his wife also felt relieved, as they were almost out of the ingredients. They also sat down to take a rest.
After some time the innkeeper prepared the bill and called his son, and then asked him to collect the money.
"Here is your bill." Gary put the bill on their table and waited for them to give money.
As soon as they saw the bill, the satisfying feeling of being full instantly vanished. They looked at each other, and they knew they were fucked.
They didn't have a single belly on them. When they were leaving their island, Mercer didn't allow them to take money with them, he told them to earn their own money.
Seeing their expression Gary had a bad feeling. "Don't tell me you don't have money?"
Bolt and Leo didn't know how to explain themselves. Because of their hunger, they completely forget about the money. They kept looking at each other, who will tell him that they don't have money?
Leo decided to take responsibility, as he was the one who ate so much. "Ah… I don't know how to say this, but we don't have money?" Leo's face turned red in embarrassment. "Can you put it on the tab? I promise we will pay after we earned the money."
"Tab?!" Gary couldn't believe that he just asked to put it on the tab. They were just strangers passing by their town, who would believe that they will return to pay their tab.
Other guests in the inn were dumbfounded hearing Leo, he ate so much and now he is saying that he doesn't have money. "Lyla will beat the shit out of them," the guest wearing a blue shirt said.
"You remember Bobby, right? Last time when he didn't pay after the eating, Lyla beat him so much that he couldn't even get out of the bed for the whole month," the bald-headed guest told others.
"Lyla is kind, but when someone doesn't pay she becomes scary as hell," the guest wearing a blue shirt said.
Hearing them Bolt and Leo started sweating.
In the kitchen, as soon as Lyla heard that they don't have money, she came out of the kitchen with a knife in her hand.
Her husband quickly followed her and tried to calm her. "Wife, don't be hasty, if you killed them who is going to pay us."
Leo and Bolt saw them coming out.
Both of them were wearing a white apron with a panda printed on it.
Gorden, the innkeeper was a tall man of average build with brown eyes and short black hair.
Lyla, the innkeeper's wife was a slim woman with brown eyes and greenish long hair tied into a ponytail.
When they looked at the innkeeper's wife approaching them with a knife in her hand they almost wanted to run, she really looked like she was out for the murder.
"Wife, stop!"
"Mom, stop!"
Three of them tried to stop her but they were unsuccessful.
Both of them stepped back when she came near them. "Please. Please. There is no need to go this far, I promise that we will pay when we earn some money," Leo said with a frightened expression.
"Yes. Yes. We will surely pay." Bolt supported Leo.
Lyla looked at Bolt.
Seeing mom's attention turned to Bolt, Mary immediately stood in between them. "If you want to hurt him. You have to go through me," she said with a determination of sacrificing herself. Immediately after that she looked at Leo and said, "I don't care what you do with him. Anyway, he was the one who ate so much."
Seeing how she was protecting Bolt, Lyla smiled inwardly. "My little girl has grown up." She understood why she was acting like this, as she also once had gone through such a period. She also found Bolt very pleasing to the eyes. "It isn't bad to have such son-in-law," she thought inwardly.
"What?" Leo cried inwardly. "I indeed ate most of the food, but it isn't fair that only I get punished." He resented this discriminating girl.
After what Mary said, Leo thought everyone would be after him, but that wasn't the case at all. They didn't even glance at him, they were completely ignoring him as if he wasn't there. This was the best scenario for him, but somehow this felt off to him.
He saw everyone looking at Bolt, Lyla's eyes were softened so at least he was sure that they were out of danger, but behind her, the father-son pair was on the verge of bursting with hatred, they were looking so intently at Bolt that if looks could kill, he would have died infinite times.
The first time Leo felt not having good looks was a kind of blessing.
Seeing the girl protecting him Bolt felt relieved. "What a kind girl. She is protecting me even though I didn't pay," he thought inwardly. As for Leo he wasn't surprised, he made them work so much that they would have cried if he had continued even a little more. So it was obvious for such a kind girl to feel angry at him.
Just when Bolt thought he was saved, he felt suffocating pressure on him. He saw the father-son pair weirdly looking at him. "What's wrong with them, why are their eyes look so red, did something get into their eyes?" Bolt thought inwardly.
Lyla's anger had vanished, but she did not show this on her face, she still looked fierce. Anyway, she was just trying to scare them, she wasn't so ruthless to hurt such young kids, right? "Keep in mind that I am letting you off only because my daughter asked. So be sure to thank her," she said while looking at Bolt.
"Yes. Yes. I will," Bolt said hurriedly.
Suddenly Mary hugged her mom. "Mom is the best," she said in joy.
"Okay. Okay. No need to get so touchy, you are making it too obvious, but it looks like that dense boy didn't notice it," Lyla said while freeing herself from her daughter.
"Mom, what are you saying." Mary blushed.
Behind them, there was a storm raging inside of Gorden and Gary, they couldn't wait to get their hands on Bolt.
"Wife, you must be tired, why don't you go upstairs, I will take care of the rest," Gorden said gently.
It was almost time for closing the inn, and she also felt tired from all the work, so she left everything to her husband and went upstairs.
As soon as she was out of their sight, Gorden's face became terrifying. "Don't feel so relaxed. She letting you off doesn't mean everything is over. From now on you will work here until my wife feels that you have paid for the food," he said to Bolt.
Bolt nodded in agreement. Leo also nodded, but nobody was paying attention to him. He felt like even if he left the inn nobody would care about him.
"You will help in the kitchen, follow us," he said to Bolt and then walked towards the kitchen.
"Dad, take care of him," Mary asked, thinking work was going to be difficult for Bolt.
"Don't worry, I will surely take good care of him," Gorden assured her with a gentle smile.
"Thanks, dad." Mary didn't notice that there was a volcano erupting behind that gentle smile.
Now everyone was going separate ways to do their work. This was a very good thing for Leo that everybody forgot about him but he didn't like this at all, he wanted to express himself to show that he was also there. "What about me, what should I do?" Leo asked.
"Ahh… You are also here?" Gorden said.
"Fuck! He really forgot about me." He expected this, but actual confirmation badly hurt his feelings.
"You can clean everything here," he said casually as if he didn't care if he actually cleaned or not. His mind was only occupied with Bolt.
"Keep an eye on him," he said to Mary. He wanted to keep her busy with Leo, as he wanted alone time with Bolt. As for something happening between Mary and Leo he wasn't worried at all.
After this Gorden, his son Gary, and Bolt went into the kitchen, and the door tightly closed behind them.
Seeing this Leo prayed for Bolt. "May God be with you."
As it was getting late, the guests left one by one, after the drama was over.
Now only Leo and Mary were in the hall.
She sat on the stool and ordered Leo. "Start with cleaning the floor, I don't want to see even a single speck of dust." She liked this feeling of ordering him, just some time before he was ordering them, and now it was her turn.
She was going to make things difficult for him, nitpick about every single mistake of his. But once Leo started working she completely forgot about that.
When she observed him working, she felt like he wasn't cleaning but performing a grand show, every single of his movements were graceful and effortless, his cleaning felt like a work of art. This gave Leo a kind of charm that kept anyone looking at him in a trance.
This was the effect of [Limitless], which improved his body in every aspect. His control over his body was perfect, his movements were swift and nimble, there wasn't even a little bit of incoordination between his mind and body.
When he stopped, Mary was kind of disappointed, she wanted to keep watching him working.
"I am done," Leo said.
For the first time she took a careful look at Leo, his looks were average, but the vibe he gave off was very attractive, not in the sense of boy and girl, but it was the kind of attractiveness that makes you want to be a friend with him.
This side of Leo most times remained unnoticed because of how strong Bolt's presence was.
In just a short time Leo cleaned everything. When she looked around she felt as if she was in a different place, she never saw this hall so clean, she had the illusion as if everything was sparkling.
Mary completely forgot about how Leo made them work so hard. Now there was only amazement in her eyes. "How did you do it?" She asked.
"What?" Leo didn't understand her question.
Mary gestured at the hall. "All this."
"You mean cleaning?" Leo still did not understand her. "Did you not see me doing it?"
"I am not asking about the cleaning, but how you moved so beautifully while cleaning. Can you teach me?" She asked him with expectation.
Leo, couldn't understand what she was talking about. Leo just cleaned as usual, what's beautiful about that.
Seeing him frowning, she thought Leo didn't want to teach her. "Hmph! You just don't want to teach me."
"I don't get it, what is there to teach, I just cleaned normally. I am sure you can also do this," Leo said.
Mary wanted to argue further, but just then a white-haired old man entered their inn, his left arm was missing from the elbow.
"Mayor, you are here again, if your wife finds that you are here, she will make a huge ruckus," Mary said with a smile.
"I can't stomach her food, you know how her food tastes, right?" Mayor said.
"Yes." Mary shivered remembering the taste of the food once she ate at Mayor's house. She shook her head to bring her out of that memory.
"Do you want me to bring your usual?" Mary asked.
"Yes." Mayor nodded. "Who is this?" He asked seeing a new face standing beside her.
Mary told him about everything that happened. Hearing everything mayor was very surprised. "It's a miracle that he is still standing fine after not paying. Sometimes I feel that she will not hesitate to beat even me if I didn't pay. We must write this incident in our town's history." After saying this mayor started laughing, Mary also joined him.
Hearing this Leo felt lucky that Bolt was with him.
"Go to the kitchen, and tell my dad that mayor is here, he will know what to do."
Leo nodded and went to the kitchen. When he entered he saw Bolt washing plates, and the innkeeper and the boy were intently looking at him by the side.
Bolt told the innkeeper about the mayor. Hearing Leo he immediately started preparing the food.
While he was waiting he noticed Bolt looking at him with pleading eyes asking him to save him.
Leo immediately looked away, he didn't want to get involved in whatever happening here.
After the food was prepared, Leo took it to the mayor.
After just the first bite mayor almost teared up, he ate the regular food as if he was eating some heavenly delicacy. Just from his expression, Leo could guess how terrible his wife's cooking was.
After some time mayor finished everything on the plate, and then he left with joy on his face.
Leo asked Mary about the mayor's arm.
"It was a long time ago before we were even born, there was a pirate attack on our town, that time he lost his arm. And his son was also killed during that attack," Mary told him. "Remember to never ask him about his arm or his son," Mary warned him.
Leo nodded at her.
After everything was done they closed the inn and went upstairs. On this floor there were four rooms, two were used by the innkeeper's family, and two were for the guests.
They gave them a room with two beds to sleep in for the night. Before everyone parted, Mary said good night to Bolt while blushing, and Bolt also wished her back normally. After that Mary happily went to her room.
Seeing this her father and brother almost wanted to beat him but they controlled themselves.
