Capítulo 4: Awakening Part 4
“You think you know me huh?” Calian started. “You think that you’ve got me pegged. You’ve known me for how long? Do you ever know my name?”
“No”.
“Tch. It’s Calian”.
“Wiyot”.
“Nice to exchange pleasantries. But regardless, you’re here acting as if you know everything and anything about me with what cause?”
Calian was still. Wiyot kept still as well; his stare locked onto Calian. Not a word was uttered as Calian returned the eye contact. He then directed his gaze to the left side of the cell. He stared into the left corner of the cell. There was dust alongside and a roach began to crawl from the floor up the wall. Wiyot shifted back to center, Calian not having moved a single inch.
“So then.” Calian began. “You think that you know what’s best then tell me, how are we breaking out? You do realize that they caught us for a reason.”
“And what reason would that be?”
“Did you see how they looked at us? How many Owls do you think are flying about there? Did you hear them talk? Owls are supposed to be extinct”.
“…”
“Were you born yesterday?”
“The number of Owls that are around is not up to me. All I can do is control myself”.
“So, you will stay an Owl and be imprisoned?”
“Better than being a free human”.
“Do you ever hear yourself?”
“Just fine”.
“How effective do you think you are going to be with that line of thinking?”
“I’ll have to take my chances”.
“Ha”. Calian said, shaking his head. “So Pathetic. Your plan is no plan at all, and you stand by that.”
“What I stand by is not being a sellout”.
“Why are you so concerned with that?”
“It’s a matter of self-respect!”
“Oh yeah? At what cost?”
“It is a cost that I am willing to pay if it means that I am not a disgrace to our kind”.
“You are being awfully too lippy there”. Calian said, now a good deal closer to Wiyot who at that point was laying on the ground, in pain after all the excitement of the day. Nevertheless, Wiyot stood his ground.
“Maybe if you cared about being an Owl I wouldn’t have to be!”
“If you say one more word!”
“What are you going to do about it?”
Calian transformed back into an Owl and lunged at Wiyot. Wiyot was able to jump aside at the last second and muster up enough strength to engage in the battle. Calian showed his talons with Wiyot bringing his own out. There was a bit of a stare off as though it was bluffing, but once Calian lunged at Wiyot again it was on.
Calian sank his talons into Wiyot. Wiyot clinched his entire body and was able to press on forward. Wiyot and Calian backed away from each other, extending their wings as wide as they possibly could. Both tried their best to look intimidating. They began to pace around a bit as though they were wondering when the other was going to strike out first with an attack, not wanting to be caught by surprise.
Calian got tired of this and went right for Wiyot yet again. This time there was more force in his jabs, sinking his talons into Wiyot. Wiyot had enough of that and decided to go tit for tat, his talons sunk into Calian. This was enough for Calian to loosen his grip. Wiyot then directed his beak towards Calian which made Calian back away from Wiyot.
“You good?” Calian asked.
“Stop trying to bitch out!” Wiyot shouted. “You wanted to go so take it!”
“You don’t even want to do this do you?”
“Don’t gaslight me!”
“Tch”. Calian said, turning back into human form. “You always have an answer for everything. But I guess that is your deal”.
“It’s useless talking to you.”
“Looks like another rare time where we’re on the same page”.
“…How could you lose yourself like this?”
“It’s a game. You should try it once; you might accomplish something.”
“And what have you accomplished?”
“Before our little ordeal I was free”.
“And yet you’re here. You tried to take advantage of who you are and failed”.
“No, I tried to get away in the form that made sense and failed”.
“That is a distinction without a difference.”
“Whatever you say goody two shoes. But don’t worry, I’m sure your tune will change once I’m out, and you’re stuck here”.
“If you’re so sure that you are going to get out then where are the guards? Don’t you see? They have left us for dead! There is no escape!”
“Yeah, not with that attitude”.
“Look, you can do what you want to do. But I am going down with the ship”.
“Well, you’re certainly sinking”.
“You’re just a phony. Nothing but a phony. You want to be someone that you aren’t. But you’re never going to be someone that you aren’t. So, you gave up on being anything”.
Calian squared back up with Wiyot. Wiyot straighten his pose as well. Calian focused his eyes on Wiyot for the umpteenth time. His eyes were sharp and piercing as spears. Wiyot began to puff himself out a bit and loosen up his stance and wings. Calian had just transformed back into his Owl form and puffed up as well.
“Come here!” Calian cried out as he and Wiyot both lunged themselves at each other with their talons extended to their full length.
