The Ninja Academy was about to hold its graduation ceremony. Hinata Hyuga felt uneasy as she thought about the upcoming changes.
After graduation, the academy would form teams of three, each led by a jōnin, a high-ranking ninja. Hinata was anxious because she feared she might not be placed on the same team as Sasuke Uchiha.
According to the information Hinata had received from her family, she was likely to be assigned to a "search ability specialized team" along with Shino Aburame and Kiba Inuzuka.
Hinata's Byakugan, Kiba's dog, and Shino's bugs made them perfect candidates for such a team. As a princess of the Hyuga clan, it was normal for Hinata to have access to some insider information.
It was said that the Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, had personally planned this team. He wanted to cultivate the search abilities of these three, which is why it was called the "search ability specialized team."
However, despite the logic behind the team composition, Hinata still longed to be in the same team as Sasuke.
Sasuke noticed her concern and gave her an encouraging look. "Don't worry, Hinata. We'll definitely be on the same team," he assured her confidently.
As an Uchiha, Sasuke held considerable influence within the village. He knew that with a little push, he could ensure Hinata would be assigned to his team.
The day of the Ninja Academy's graduation exam finally arrived. Sasuke, as expected, excelled and graduated at the top of his class.
Naruto Uzumaki, however, struggled with the basic ninjutsu techniques required for the exam.
Despite his extensive training with Jiraiya, the Three Basic Jutsu had never been Naruto's strong suit. In a real fight, Naruto could rely on his Rasengan or summon a toad from Mount Myoboku, but his proficiency in the Three Basic Jutsu left much to be desired.
Still, Naruto managed to pass the exam and graduate.
Later that night, in the dimly lit arena of the Ninja Academy, a man with silver hair, one eye covered by a forehead protector, and a mask obscuring his face sat silently in a chair.
After a while, the Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, approached and handed the man a bottle of drink.
"Kakashi, you don't resent me for transferring you out of ANBU, do you?" the Third Hokage asked.
Kakashi Hatake shook his head. "No, Lord Third."
The Third Hokage continued, "By guiding students, you'll be able to better use your abilities. I've decided to assign Uchiha Sasuke and Uzumaki Naruto to your team. Sasuke is a genius of the Uchiha clan, and Naruto... Naruto is the son of the Fourth Hokage and the Jinchuuriki of the Nine-Tails."
Kakashi raised an eyebrow, puzzled as to why two ninjas with such potential were being placed on the same team.
The Third Hokage chuckled softly, "Sasuke may be a genius, but Naruto is still considered the class 'dead last.' It reminds me of how Minato's team was back in the day."
The Third Hokage's tone grew more serious. "Naruto needs to learn how to control the Nine-Tails, and pairing him with someone like Sasuke could be beneficial. Originally, I planned to include Haruno Sakura in your team, but Fugaku Uchiha approached me, asking for a favor. He requested that Hinata Hyuga be placed on the same team as Sasuke."
"Ninja activities are almost always done in groups, so I originally wanted to form teams based on diverse specialties. Last year, we formed a Taijutsu specialized team led by Maito Gai. This year, I want to create a search specialized team under Yuhi Kurenai and a tactical specialized team under Asuma Sarutobi."
With that, the Third Hokage rose to his feet. "Kakashi, I'm counting on you."
Kakashi remained silent, his thoughts drifting as the Third Hokage left.
That night, lying on his bed and staring at the ceiling, Kakashi found himself reflecting on his own past.
As an ANBU operative, he had always been precise and disciplined in his missions. But being a teacher? That was something new.
Memories of his time in Minato's team came flooding back. Back then, he had been part of Team 7 as well, alongside Obito Uchiha and Rin Nohara.
He had been distant, often aloof, with few friends to speak of. Obito had been carefree, even a bit reckless, but he had also been someone who worked tirelessly for the sake of the girl he liked—Rin.
Kakashi knew that people, and by extension ninjas, were complex. Successfully training ninjas and helping them reach their potential would be no small feat.
The moonlight filtered through the window, casting a soft glow on a short, broken sword lying on the table.
It was the blade of Kakashi's father, Sakumo Hatake—the White Fang of Konoha—his only memento.
Kakashi's thoughts turned to his father's death and the companions he had lost in battle. His grip tightened around the bell on his waist as a surge of determination washed over him.
He could not allow the tragedies of his past to repeat themselves with his new students.
The Third Hokage had entrusted them to him for a reason. He would believe in them, protect them, and teach them the way a true sensei should.

The next day, the freshly graduated students of the Ninja Academy gathered in the classroom, eagerly awaiting their team assignments.
A tall, rugged-looking man with a cigarette in his mouth slowly walked in. He exhaled a puff of smoke and introduced himself.
"I am Sarutobi Asuma, the instructor of Team 10. The students whose names I call out will be part of my team."
Before he could finish, a red-eyed woman smacked the cigarette out of his mouth with a sharp slap. "Asuma! Show some respect in front of the children," she scolded him.
Asuma rubbed the back of his head sheepishly, nodding. "Alright, alright."
He then called out, "Nara Shikamaru, Akimichi Choji, Yamanaka Ino—you three are with me. We'll be Team 10, the Tactical Specialized Team."
Asuma led his new team out, and the red-eyed woman, Yuhi Kurenai, took the floor.
"I am Yuhi Kurenai, the instructor of Team 8. Shino Aburame, Kiba Inuzuka, and Sakura Haruno, you three will be with me in the Search Specialized Team."
Sakura blinked in surprise. 'Search specialized? Me?' She thought to herself, bewildered. 'I'm more skilled in medical ninjutsu and brute strength. What does this have to do with search abilities? Isn't Hinata's Byakugan better suited for this?'
Despite her confusion, Sakura followed Kurenai out of the room. Her parents were ordinary citizens running a clothing store in Konoha, and she knew there was no arguing against the decision.
Hinata, on the other hand, was from the prestigious Hyuga clan, and their statuses were worlds apart.
