Hiruzen Sarutobi, the third Hokage and known as "the Professor" in the ninja world, had led the Village Hidden in the Leaves for over three decades. Six years ago, he had abdicated his Hokage title to Minato Namikaze, who became the fourth Hokage. Tragedy struck the village when Minato Namikaze, Kushina Uzumaki, and Biwako Sarutobi all died during the attack by the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox four years ago. To protect the village, Minato and Kushina sacrificed their lives to seal the demon inside their newborn son, Naruto Uzumaki.
Deep down, the Third Hokage knew that he should have been the one to make the sacrifice. However, he saw this as an opportunity to regain his title and mold the young nine-tail Jinchuriki into his personal weapon. While he wanted to treat Naruto fairly, rumors of the boy being the reincarnation of the fox demon started to spread throughout the village a few days after the nine-tails attack. Hiruzen suspected his old partner, Danzo, to be responsible for this, but instead of correcting the villagers, he saw it as a chance to become Naruto's sole source of light and secure his eternal loyalty.
At this point in the story, Naruto was four years old, and Hiruzen had already shown the boy the only kindness outside of the Ramen shop owner and his daughter. However, today would bring a surprise for Hiruzen. In the Hokage Tower, sitting at his desk with piles of paperwork in front of him, Hiruzen lamented the absence of Minato, who used to handle all this work. He thought to himself, "Ahh, how I miss when Minato was here to do all this work for me."
Just then, there was a knock on Hiruzen's office door, causing him to put down his pipe. He called out, "Come in." The door opened to reveal Kakashi Hatake, a silver-haired man with a mask covering half his face and a headband concealing his left eye.
"Lord Hokage," began Kakashi respectfully, "I've come to make a report on the Jinchuriki observation mission." He kneeled before the desk, waiting patiently for the Third Hokage's response.
Hiruzen was surprised to see Kakashi personally come to report about the Jinchuriki. He was used to only reading written reports, so this must have meant something significant had happened that required his attention. Curious and concerned, the Third Hokage asked, "Kakashi, tell me what has happened to Naruto."
"Lord Hokage," began Kakashi, "earlier today, Naruto was by the pond in the park when a young civilian boy approached him. They had a conversation, and afterwards, Naruto followed the boy to a training field where they engaged in physical training and sparring. They separated about an hour ago."
The Third Hokage was shocked because usually, civilian children and adults ignored Naruto. Yet, this young civilian boy managed to talk to Naruto and even got him to engage in training. Trying to make sense of the situation, Hiruzen asked, "Kakashi, do you know who this boy is and what they were talking about? I need to understand what's going on, especially considering if this could be a ploy by Danzo."
Kakashi informed the Hokage, "I've found out that the boy's name is Ayan Kurai, a four-year-old orphan who lives alone in his parents' old house near Naruto's apartment. Ayan told Naruto that his goal in life was to become the strongest in the world, believing that strength commands respect. Naruto adjusted his goal and expressed his desire to become the strongest and the Hokage. However, Ayan disagreed, saying that Naruto could aim to be the second strongest."
Listening attentively, Hiruzen contemplated the information. He felt a sense of satisfaction knowing that Naruto had found a friend who encouraged him and trained with him. Curious about Kakashi's perspective on the interaction, the Third Hokage asked, "And what do you think of this interaction between the two, Kakashi?"
"Lord Hokage, from what I have gathered and observed, Ayan has a similar experience as Naruto. He's alone and doesn't receive any acknowledgment, which is why he reached out to Naruto. I believe they see each other as kindred spirits," shared Kakashi based on his research and observations of Ayan.
The Third Hokage listened to Kakashi's opinion and, based on it, determined that Ayan wasn't a Root ninja working for Danzo, but rather another unfortunate orphan in the village.
"Alright, Kakashi, continue with your duties and report any changes to me directly," said Hiruzen, waving his hand to dismiss Kakashi from his office. As he picked up his pipe, lit it, and began smoking while going over the paperwork on his desk, the Third Hokage thought to himself, "I'll have to pay this Ayan boy a visit myself to gauge his character. I can't have my Jinchuriki negatively influenced."
Meanwhile, in the underground facility known as the Root base, in the center of an office, sat Danzo Shimura, the leader of the Root department and a ninja as old as the Third Hokage himself. Danzo, who had been on the same ninja team as Hiruzen in their younger days, had always harbored a desire to become Hokage. He was even willing to go as far as attempting to assassinate his old teammate.
In his office, Danzo was going through Root paperwork when a Root ninja entered and knelt, indicating they had a report. Without taking his eye off the paperwork in front of him, Danzo simply said, "Speak."
"Lord Danzo, a four-year-old orphan civilian boy named Ayan Kurai approached the Nine-Tailed Jinchuriki and convinced him to train with the goal of becoming the second strongest in the world and the Hokage," reported the Root Ninja to Danzo, who remained focused on his paperwork, clearly uninterested.
"Is that all?" Danzo asked, briefly looking up from the paperwork to address the Root ninja knelt in front of his desk.
"The boy lives in an old house left by his parents, and it's near the Jinchuriki's apartment," the Root ninja replied, sharing the last piece of information they had gathered.
"Keep an eye on the boy. Perhaps we can recruit him into Root in the future," Danzo said, dismissing the Root ninja before him.
Danzo knew that Hiruzen was already aware of the boy, so he couldn't make a move just yet. Additionally, he wanted to gauge the boy's potential, planning to wait until Ayan and Naruto entered the Academy. He formed a plan to use Ayan to get closer to the Jinchuriki, ultimately aiming to gain control over the power of the Nine-Tails.
Ayan, currently unaware of the discussions about him by two of the highest-level ninjas in the village, was in his room studying his quirk. "Now, normally cell activation needs physical contact to work, but I guess with it being centered in a chakra point and chakra flowing throughout my body, I don't need to touch myself to activate it. I may even be able to use it over a distance using chakra strings just by activating the chakra point," Ayan pondered as he used the remaining chakra to heal his body from today's training with Naruto. With only a tenth of his own chakra left, Ayan assumed a meditative position and concentrated on entering his spiritual space.
Opening his eyes, Ayan found himself in front of the All for One chakra pool, which was currently half-filled with chakra having wind and Yang affinity. "Hmm, it seems that my idea of training Naruto to drain chakra was successful," Ayan thought as he observed the pool, considering which quirk to activate. After careful consideration, Ayan decided to wait and fill up the All for One chakra pool with more yang chakra to unlock the energy saver for better chakra efficiency. "I'll drain more yang for energy saver and use my own yin and yang to open endurance and search. These combinations will increase my training efficiency and survivability," Ayan planned, considering these quirks as his foundation for surviving his early years.
Ayan was aware that talking and training with Naruto would draw the attention of the Third Hokage and Danzo, which could have both positive and negative consequences from the Hokage or potentially worse if Danzo decided to act against him. After deciding on his next course of action, Ayan exited the spiritual space and used All for One to drain his remaining chakra to almost zero before getting into bed for some sleep.
Meanwhile, Naruto had also made it home and couldn't help but think about his day training with Ayan. "I can't believe I actually made a friend today," Naruto thought as he prepared a cup of instant noodles, feeling slightly tired from the intense training session. While eating his noodles, Naruto couldn't shake off thoughts about Ayan's determination to become the strongest. "Ayan is so confident that he will be the strongest in the world, but unfortunately, I will become the strongest, and he can be the second strongest under me," Naruto mused as he finished his meal and got ready for bed, feeling more exhausted than usual due to the rigorous training.
In the spiritual space within Naruto, the Nine-tailed demon fox lay down, observing the life of its current jailer. "Hmph, he doesn't even know that his friend was draining him of chakra every time their hands made contact with Naruto bear skin during the sparring session," the Nine-tails thought, sensing the flow of chakra from the seal space during the sparring session.
The Nine-tails, indifferent to the situation, couldn't sense any negative emotions from the boy, which indicated that the draining of chakra was not a malicious action. The events that unfolded that day would have a lasting impact on the Leaf Village and eventually, the entire ninja world. The two boys were unknowingly stepping onto a path that would reshape the world of ninjas.
Hey Author here
I hope you enjoyed chapter two. I'll be working on chapter 3 now and plan to work upto chapter 5. I do not plan to spend much time on these childhood years and get to the academy quickly and not spend to long there either.
