### **Chapter 9: A Battle of Minds**
After receiving his orders, Inoichi Yamanaka left the Hokage's office with a thoughtful expression. He knew the task ahead would be delicate. The Hokage had asked him to evaluate Naruto Uzumaki . Inoichi invited Naruto for a brief talk, intending to delve deeper into the boy's psyche. As they sat down, Inoichi began to ask Naruto a series of questions, his senses finely tuned to detect any lies or deception through the boy's chakra. Yet, to his surprise, he couldn't sense any chakra emanating from Naruto.
Throughout the entire meeting, Naruto was in a state of internal panic. His secret weighed heavily on his mind. He knew he needed to stay away from any Yamanaka—trained in their clan's techniques, they could easily read his memories, and that would be dangerous for his survival. But running or hiding from the Hokage wasn't an option. He lacked any jutsu or seal that could protect his memories from the invasive Yamanaka techniques.
Inoichi's interrogation was thorough. After asking 169 questions, he asked Naruto to relax and lie down on the bed, his professional demeanor masking the intensity of his scrutiny. As a skilled psychologist, Inoichi then proceeded to analyze Naruto's mind.
Naruto's panic spiked. He was trapped, unable to do anything. In his heightened state of fear, his consciousness teleported to his mindscape.
There, Naruto stood before a giant gate, the oppressive atmosphere pressing down on him. The air was thick with a heavy, musky scent, and the faint sound of dripping water echoed through the vast, dimly lit space. The ground beneath him was covered in a thin layer of yellow water, the smell of dampness and decay pervasive. Transparent pipes carrying blue chakra—Oxford blue—ran along the walls, intertwining with other pipes that pulsed with a blood-red chakra. These streams of energy mixed at various points, creating a swirling, chaotic blend that eventually flowed into Naruto's own body.
Naruto approached the giant gate cautiously. Behind the bars, he could see a massive, slumbering fox. "Yes," he murmured to himself. "Maybe he can help me."
"Hey, Kurama, wake up. I know this is the first time we're meeting, but please wake up. Hey, Kuraaaaama, wake up!"
The giant fox stirred, its eyes slowly opening. "Hmmm... Where am I? Who are you?"
Naruto took a deep breath. "Aaaagh, did the Fourth Hokage succeed? Hmm, hey, little boy, come here."
Naruto cautiously approached the gate, feeling the wet, cold floor under his feet.
"Yes, a little bit more. Come, boy, come closer."
Naruto took another step forward, his heart pounding in his chest.
"Haha," Kurama laughed, baring his fangs. With a swift motion, he slashed at Naruto, but the boy dodged just in time, feeling the rush of air from the claw swipe.
"I will not die here," Naruto declared, his voice echoing in the cavernous space. "Kurama, I'm sorry, but we need to talk later. Right now, I need your help."
"Help? From me? I am the Nine-Tails, the lord of demons! I am not your servant. And how do you know my name?" Kurama's eyes narrowed, glowing ominously in the dim light.
"I will answer all your questions after you help me," Naruto said, his voice steady despite his fear.
"What makes you think I will help you, kid? I am not your slave."
Naruto took a deep breath. "I will tell you about the future, son of the Sage of the Six Paths."
Kurama's eyes widened in surprise. "Fine, what do you need?"
"A man is trying to analyze my mind. I need you to protect my memories so he won't be able to read them."
"Your memories? You need my help for that? That's beneath me," Kurama scoffed.
"Here's the deal," Naruto proposed. "You protect my mind now and in the future, and I will grant you access to all my memories. You can see what happened in the past and what will happen in the future of this world. Deal?" Naruto extended his fist toward Kurama.
Kurama stared at the boy, contemplating. After a moment, he bumped his massive claw gently against Naruto's fist. "Deal."
Naruto's consciousness snapped back to reality. The entire exchange had taken only 1.5 seconds. He visibly relaxed, his anxiety dissipating.
Inoichi continued his analysis, thoroughly examining Naruto's chakra. He found some anomalies within the boy's chakra system, but when he tried to delve into Naruto's memories, he was met with a fierce resistance. Kurama's killing intent surged through Naruto's mindscape, forcing Inoichi to retreat as though he were a frightened child.
In the real world, Inoichi woke up startled and breathing heavily. "Damn... Nine-Tails," he muttered. "It seems I can't read Naruto's memories. At least I got his psychological profile and chakra reading."
As Inoichi processed his findings, confusion and concern gripped him. He knew Naruto was the son of his late friend, Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage. The boy's chakra system seemed unusual, almost as if it were not functioning properly. Inoichi worried about Naruto's future as a ninja. Without a proper chakra system, how could he hope to succeed in the ninja world? More than that, Inoichi was haunted by the thought of facing Kushina Uzumaki, Naruto's mother, in the afterlife. If he failed her son, how could he ever look her in the eye again?
Inoichi's confusion deepened as he pondered the situation. Why was he not sensing any chakra from Naruto? Was the boy's chakra system malfunctioning, or was something else at play? Inoichi shook his head, unable to find a clear answer.
He woke Naruto gently and bid his farewells. As Inoichi walked away, his mind buzzed with the implications of what he had just encountered. Naruto, on the other hand, felt a newfound sense of security, knowing that Kurama was now his unlikely ally.
