Chapter Text
Himiko wasn't sure what was going on. She had woken up to find most of her class already gone even though it was hours before classes started, and the last few who were there ran out the door in a hurry before she could ask what was going on.
The answer came when she turned the tv on and saw the news. Cities burning after nomu attacked and released thousands of villains from prison. Things got weirder for Himiko as Eraserhead, someone she had never spoken to but seen around campus, came in suddenly carrying a small girl and a backpack. He quickly set the girl down and the backpack before saying, "Himiko Toga."
Himiko jumped a bit and looked over. "Y-yes?"
"Midoriya and the others trust you, so I will. This is Eri; please watch over her while we handle things."
Before Himiko could get a word out, Eraser left, and Eri shuffled her feet shyly as she looked at Himiko, who smiled uneasily. When was the last time she was around a small child? Has she ever been around a small child before?
"Um... hi Eri. I'm Himiko." Himiko said hesitantly before turning the tv off. Probably shouldn't let her see what they're reporting on.
"H-hi..." Eri peaked at her from behind the couch that was between them. "You know Toru, Mina, and Izu?"
Himiko smiled a bit easier as she puffed her chest out and put her hand on her hips. "Know them? I'm one of their oldest friends."
Eri's eyes lit up, and she stepped out from behind the couch. "Really?"
Himiko nodded. "You betcha. Izuku saved me; that's how we met."
"I met Toru when she was working," Eri said as she stepped up, and Himiko saw the glimmer of excitement in the young girl's eyes. "She saved me too."
Himiko sat down on the floor and crossed her legs as she said. "They're all some pretty good heroes, aren't they?"
Eri nodded excitedly before saying. "You're in the dorms... are you a hero too?"
The words felt like a smack of reality to Himiko, but the girl kept her smile up as best she could. "No, I'm not... at least not yet. I'm working on it, but I started later than Izu and the others, so I'm playing catch up."
"Oh... well, if you're Izu's friend, then I think you'll do awesome." Eri looked down and looked bashful suddenly as she said. "Also, I think your eyepatch is really cute."
Himiko giggled and stood up. "I know, right. Do you wanna see the other ones I have?"
Eri nodded happily, and Himiko grabbed the backpack Eraser had dropped before leading the smaller girl up to her room.

"This is bullshit!" Garaki yelled as he stared at the news.
Johnny groaned, and the doctor huffed before petting the nomu. "My apologies Johnny. It seems as if all the high-end and near high-end were destroyed. Gigantomachia is also captured. All for One's supporters have abandoned us, and it seems none of the League was able to get out. We have nothing left... what the hell are we supposed to do now, Johnny?"
The nomu made a strange groaning noise, and Garaki sighed. "I suppose you're right. There's nothing we can do... How about we renovate this place and just stick to running the hospital?"
Johnny seemed happy about the idea, and Garaki smiled a bit as he petted the nomu. This one really was his favorite. "What kinda stuff should we put down here since we can't make nomu anymore? I'm all ears, Johnny boy."

Three days. For three days, Himiko sat in the dorms with only Eri to keep her company. Nearly the entire UA staff was out helping put down any and every villain that tried to rear their ugly heads. Everything from long-running villains to opportunistic punks who had never jaywalked before but suddenly felt like they could do anything.
On the fourth day, the government and the HPSC decided that things had calmed down enough that they didn't need hero students out in the field as well, and so all students across japan were sent back to their respective schools to rest and recuperate while the pros wrapped things up.
The entirety of class 2-A minus one came back and passed out immediately. Himiko felt knots forming in her stomach when Toru still hadn't come back on the fifth day. She quickly found Izuku and Mina in his room. Himiko held Eri's hand as Izuku answered the door. "Himiko and Eri?"
Izuku smiled and crouched down as he patted Eri's head. "Hello, Eri. It's been a bit since I saw you. How have you been?"
Eri spotted the cast on Izuku's arm at the same time as Himiko. The smaller girl hugged him tightly and said. "We were worried. Toru isn't home yet either."
Izuku grunted, and Himiko wanted to protest as he picked Eri up with his good arm and held her close. "Oh, I'm sorry. As for Toru..."
Eri's face was buried in Izuku's shoulder, so unlike Himiko, she didn't see the look of worry on his face. "I'm not sure where Toru is yet, but why don't we all go check. I'll get Mina up, and then the four of us can go ask."

It didn't take long for Izuku to come back out with Mina, who gladly scooped up Eri and hugged the girl. To their surprise, though, Eri asked Himiko to carry her as they went downstairs to head for the teacher's office.
Before they could, though, Hawks entered the common room and spotted them. "Ah, you're all here."
Momo stepped over next to Himiko and eyed the blond holding Eri as their teacher approached and said. "Sorry. I should have come yesterday, but you all needed rest."
"What's wrong, sir?" Izuku asked, not liking where his mind was going.
Hawks swallowed and looked at the assembled students. "Hagakure is in Central Hospital... she's been in a coma since she took out the nomu."
Silence. A deafening all-encompassing silence sucked every ounce of life and color from the room. A flicker of golden light and Iuzku acted on autopilot, seeing Eri's quirk about to go out of control. Gas seeped from his hand as he waved it gently over Eri's face. The small girl's horn sparked and fizzled out as she drifted to sleep.
Everyone stared at the girl, and Izuku said quietly as if he was afraid of breaking the deathly quiet that had settled over the room. "Sorry... she's been doing good recently, but..."
Himiko nodded and said in just as soft a voice. "Go. Momo and I can take care of her. Make sure Toru is ok."
Everything felt numb, but Izuku and Mina nodded. Hawks looked at the students with concern, but he knew there was nothing he could do right now except bring Toru's partners to her and explain everything.
As they walked, Mina racked her brain for something. Some signs that this wasn't real and that they were going to go outside and see their girlfriend walking up to the dorms. They'd learn that she had woken up after the first day or that Hawks was confused and got it wrong, but her hopes were crushed as they walked outside and saw no one.
Izuku grabbed Mina's hand, gently lacing their fingers together as he followed his teacher to where UA kept their cars. The three piled into a black SUV, and Hawks drove them into Tokyo. During the drive, Hawks explained what happened. How he went to get Toru and bring her to UA and how Toru insisted on taking care of the nomu herself.
Izuku listened and heard everything Hawks said, but it didn't feel real. It didn't feel real for either student until they stood in Toru's room staring at the bandages that covered most of their girlfriends' invisible bodies. Various wires connected to her gave out every reading a doctor or nurse would need to know.
Someone from the hospital gave them a rundown of her condition and their hopes for her recovery, but it all just felt like static to Izuku and Mina. They simply nodded along, and once the hospital worker and Hawks left, the couple sat on a couch in the room and held each other as tears broke the emotional dams they had built up. The two crumbled into each other's embrace and let out all the stress of worry they had been holding onto as they worked.
At some point, after the tears had stopped and a dull constant ache settled into their hearts, Toru's family showed up. Her parents and older brother brought fresh tears and tight hugs. Izuku felt bad since it had been a while since he saw his partner's family. They were all so busy with UA and hero work that whenever free time to visit family came around, they usually split up to spend time with their own families.
After several hours Toru's parents encouraged Mina and Izuku to go to their families and make sure they knew they were ok. They promised to call the moment anything happened with Toru. Neither partner wanted to go, but they relented, knowing the family needed time to process the state of the youngest Hagakure.

Hawks drove them to Mina's family's house. Along the way, Izuku called Midnight to tell her what he was doing, and then he looked at Yasuda's contact info. He talked to her at least once a week to keep her informed about his time at UA, but now he really felt like going to see her in person... maybe after they talked to Mina's family.
There was just one more person he needed to call then. He dialed the number, hoping they would answer. The phone rang several times, and worry started to encroach on Izuku's mind until a man a few years older than Izuku answered the phone, and Izuku said. "Hi, this is Izuku Midoriya. Mawabi's older brother... I was just calling to check on her."
"Ah, Midoriya. Thank you for calling. Don't worry, though; we're all safe and sound. Mawabi is taking a nap with her mother right now, but I can wake her up. I'm sure she'd like to talk-"
"No, that's ok," Izuku said as they arrived at Mina's home. "I just needed to make sure, but let her know we'll come to visit sometime soon. If that's ok with you."
Mawabi's adoptive father assured him that they were welcome whenever and told Izuku to stay safe before hanging up.
Mina squeezed Izuku's hand, and they got out of the car. The entire Ashido family was present, and after hearing about Toru, they were quick to embrace the duo. After some time with them, they left and repeated the same thing with Yasuda. The visits did help the duo feel somewhat better, but it didn't change the fact that their partner was currently laid up in a hospital bed and had been in a coma for nearly a week.

Two weeks. Two weeks since the nomu busted open the prisons and sent Japan into chaos. In that time, the country had managed to pull itself together, and peace was back. Rebuilding efforts were taking place, and they had even gotten international aid in the effort. In that time Himiko and Momo fretted over Izuku and Mina. Classes had been postponed, but neither Izuku nor Mina seemed to be getting much rest.
The duo spent most of their time in Toru's hospital room or her dorm room. Himiko would have tried to do something to help them, but the morning she decided to try and confront them, Izuku and Mina had already left for the hospital.
Himiko went to Momo in the kitchen and hugged the taller girl tightly. "I'm sorry."
Momo rested one hand on Himiko's upper back while her other hand gently stroked the back of Himiko's head. "It's ok. You're worried about your friend. That's reasonable. I'm here if you ever need to talk or hug someone."
Himiko nodded against Momo and said. "Thanks."
"It's no problem, Himiko. You're my friend, after all."
Himiko tightened her grip on Momo. She wanted to tease the girl, but she just couldn't gather the energy to do it.

Mina stifled a yawn as she leaned on Izuku. The days felt like they had been blurring together, and Mina was mostly moving on autopilot. The only time she felt anything other than a muted sense of exhaustion was when she and Izuku would lay in Toru's bed and talk about the invisible girl. The two listed little facts about her, from her likes and dislikes to the small tics and mannerisms she exhibited. They told each other about what she looked like when visible, each one using different words to describe how beautiful she looked. On nights where it took even longer for sleep to take them, they would tell stories about Toru. Both of them were there for most of the stories, but it didn't matter. Hearing how the other one talked about the events brought a new light to the time they spent with Toru.
A beep. A simple change in tempo brought Mina to the present day. The systems hooked up to Toru started to beep louder and with more fervor. Then a movement so subtle Mina thought maybe she was just sleep-deprived. Then it happened again. Much more pronounced. A bandaged arm shakily reached up to Toru's face, and the machines panicked as Toru started to move and struggle against the copious number of wires attached to her.
The nurses were on her before Izuku and Mina could even process what was happening. The two were ushered out and forced to stare at the door while the realization slowly washed over them like a sudden rain. After an hour of waiting, they were let back in, and the first thing they saw was the bandaged body of Toru sitting up in bed nursing a cup of water.
Toru looked at her partners and could instantly tell she had been out for too long. They looked so tired, though relief seemed to be taking over as the primary emotion now, so Toru shimmered and revealed her face as she gave a shaky smile and let out a horse and quiet. "Hey."
