Chapter Text

"What?" Shade asked as she looked at Izuku. She had heard him, but she wanted him to repeat it so she could make sure.

Izuku sighed. "I need to go back to UA for a few hours. I promise I'll be back before we need to do our routes."

"Why?" She knew he'd have a decent reason. Izuku seemed like a good, responsible kid.

"It's my friend. She needs my help. We got her to safety, but she isn't saved yet. She doesn't feel safe yet." Shade looked at the determination in his eyes as he said. "I need to go back and do whatever I can, but I promise I will be back in time for the route."

After a moment, Shade nodded. "Understood. Go help your friend."

Izuku smiled, but Shade hardened her stare as she said. "If you're late coming back, I will tell Eraserhead, and I'll let him handle the punishment."

Iuzku gulped a bit and nodded. "Yes, ma'am understood."

Momo paced in the common room. She looked up as Toru came in. "Is everyone else here yet?"

"Yes, Izuku and Mina are upstairs already."

Toru clicked her tongue. "Sorry, I had trouble finding StarBurst when you texted me. She was... busy with something."

"It's ok," Momo said as she headed up the stairs with Toru.

The two girls entered Himiko's room to find Izuku and Mina hugging the blonde girl. Himiko sniffled and rubbed her eyes. "I-I didn't think you'd tell them to come right away."

"I didn't," Momo said. "I just told them you needed us, and they came here as fast as they could."

Himiko sniffled and buried her face in Izuku's shoulder. "You guys are too nice. Don't you have stuff to do?"

"It's not as important as helping our friend," Mina said as she gently rubbed Himiko's back. "Now come on. What do you want to tell us?"

After taking a moment to compose herself, Himiko said. "I-I wanna tell you everything."

Himiko's friends sat on the floor, and the desk chair as Himiko herself hugged her pillow close and sat on her bed. "I-I guess I'll start with my parents."

Himiko took a deep breath and composed herself before doing something she's never done before. Himiko talked about her past. No lies or half-truths. She simply trusted that the four people in front of her would accept her for who she was. A large part of her didn't want to do this, but she could tell if she didn't, she would remain as frightened and fragile as she felt.

It took time, and there were several instances of Himiko breaking down and being swamped in hugs and reassurances from her friends. They learned of the abuse her parents put her through and how it drove her to try and suppress her urges until she snapped and lashed out at someone. It felt so good to give in, and she became lost in the violence and blood.

Things improved when she met Izuku and his girlfriends, but it didn't last as she ran into Stain and lost her eye. Later again, she gave in when the UHD wanted to use her. Himiko couldn't even speak about Psion and what it felt like to have her memories altered so she would love Psion and not know who Toru, Mina, and Izuku were.

By the end of it, they knew everything Himiko had been through, and the four of them were doing their best to comfort her. Momo came back with water which Himiko took gratefully. She had cried and talked so much she was feeling the need for water.

Once Himiko had downed her glass of water and didn't look like she was going to break down again, Momo said. "You've... you've been through quite a lot Himiko. I'm sorry you weren't saved sooner."

Himiko whipped away the last of her tears and did her best to smile as she said, "It's ok thanks to all that I got to meet four cuties who care about me enough to stay and save me even after everything I've done."

"Still, I think we all wish you didn't have to suffer so much just to meet us," Mina said as she hugged Himiko.

Himiko sniffled and held her friends close. Her chest felt lighter, and her mind felt more clear than ever before. She soaked in every ounce of warmth that radiated from their love for her. Even if no one else believed in her or trusted her to be a hero, if she had these four people, then it would be fine.

After some time, the group separated, and Momo said. "If you're up to it, we may be able to attend the latter portion of classes today."

Himiko hesitated before nodding. "Y-yeah... I'll go."

Izuku, Mina, and Toru hugged Himiko tight one more time before leaving to get back to their respective work studies. Momo was glad that she had asked Mystic for today off so that she could study. She may not have studied or attended any classes today, but she was absolutely positive that it had been spent doing something much more important.

Momo looked at Himiko as she attempted to fix her hair. She had only really gotten to know a hurting Himiko who was holding herself back, and while Himiko may not be totally healed just from this one talk, the blonde girl did seem lighter than before. "Momo?"

Momo blinked and saw a slight blush on Himiko's face as she looked at her. "I need to get changed so I can go to classes."

Momo blushed, realizing that she had been standing at the door staring. "Ah um. I'm sorry. I'll wait for you in the common room."

Himiko nodded and couldn't help but smile a bit as Momo started to leave. "You can stare at me all you want once we're in class."

The sight of Momo's blushing face caused Himiko a tremendous amount of joy. She could tell teasing Momo would be a lot of fun.

Izuku held back a yawn and downed an energy drink before double-checking his costume. He had made it back to Shades' temporary base of operations and managed to get a few hours of sleep in before Silence woke him up so they could continue the mission. The daytime reports detailed a massive spike in crime but only in the five cities that Shade had people operating in. After checking the Hero Net, they noticed a large number of heroes talking about a drop in crime everywhere else.

'This could be bad. Maybe whoever is behind this was simply trying to rally villains. Could that be why it took so long? Maybe they're trying to shift our focus away from their real goal... maybe Nighteye could have been useful to have on this mission. He really does do some outstanding investigative work.' Izuku's thoughts wandered as he jumped from one roof to another.

The night was dark, but unlike last time, it was not silent. Sirens and the occasional fight could be heard echoing through the city. The heroes on duty were definitely putting in work tonight.

The sound of metal tearing caught Izuku's attention, and he headed to the edge of the building. As he peered over the edge, a black mass shot up above him, and the clouds separated just enough that he could see the grotesque and twisted form of a nomu. Before he could process the danger, several more appeared.

Adrenalin flooded Izuku's system, and his hand shot up to his comms. "Hypno reporting we have nomu-"

Pain exploded in Izuku's arm, shortly followed by his ribs as one of the nomu swooped in and hit him. Izuku fell off the building, and the last thing he saw before it went dark was the fire escape that he clipped on the way down.

Shade cursed as she ran with Shatter slung over her shoulder. Silence was next to her, dragging an unconscious Hypno. Rail was two paces behind them, her arms arching with power as she gripped metal ball bearings in her hands, ready to shred whatever crossed their paths or at least try to. These nomu were nothing like the previous ones, and there were so many. Her comms lit up all at once. Every city reporting multiple of these powerful nomu all hitting the prisons at once.

Shade cursed as they exited the alleyway and saw the fires spreading with the chaos. The heroes had already had their hands full, and now every convict from the prisons was rushing into the city to cause problems.

"Shade, we got a car. Let's go." Rail said as she opened the door of an abandoned sedan.

Silence and Shade loaded the two men into the back of the car, and Shade tried not to look at Hypnos' mangled arm or the gaping wound in Shatter's side. Once they were loaded up, Silence took the driver's seat and asked. "Where to?"

"Get us to the hospital; the heroes should be securing the area around it. These two need help now." Shade said as the car started down the road while the sounds of combat and chaos grew. Several dark figures shot over the gap between buildings, and Shade nearly cursed.

"Where are the nomu going? Shouldn't they be going on a rampage?" Shatter said as she watched them leave the city.

Shade wasn't sure why and right now, she didn't care. She needed to get her two teammates to help. She'd fall in line with whoever took charge once Shatter, and Hypno were getting treated. 'Fucking, of course, this is happening while the fucking Commission is still trying to sort itself out.'

Nezu hummed as he looked over the varying reports. The door to his office opened, and a group of heroes entered. Endeavor, Sir Nighteye, Eraserhead, and several other members of UA's staff entered. "What is the meaning of this rat. It's chaos out there. I have more important things-"

Nezu stood on his desk as he said. "You're here because of that situation, Endeavor. Since the incident reports hit the Hero Net, I have been coordinating with heroes to try and manage it. The chaos will not spread from those cities immediately. There are two other matters, one directly related and another that has not been noticed by many yet."

"What is it?" Eraser asked as he stamped down the worry for his old class. Most of them were out there or would get called in. Hell, he knew the problem child Midoriya was in one of those cities working.

Nezu picked up a remote, and the projector put a map of Japan up on the far wall. Five red stars lit up where each city was located. "These are the locations. Our first issue is this."

Sprouting from each city, red dotted lines started moving away from the cities. "The nomu are moving away from the cities after opening the prisons. The only issue is that based on projected courses made by myself and several other strategists, there is nothing of value there... except for one thing."

The doors opened again as All Might entered. "Sir, you needed me?"

Nezu nodded. "I'm afraid your pupil is in danger."

All Might tensed as he looked at the assembled heroes. "Sir?"

"Now is not the time for secrets, Toshinori. You know everyone here and can trust them. Now is the time to open up about the secret." Nezu said as he quickly adjusted his monitor and keyboard so he could continue to coordinate the hero's efforts.

"What is he talking about?" Midnight asked as she looked at Toshi, who gulped.

Nighteye sighed. "All Might I agree with Nezu. I've always championed a small circle of those you could absolutely trust, but things are getting out of hand quickly. Nomu are involved, so we can guess whoever's behind it will attempt to get All for One out as well. Your pupil needs protection."

All Might cursed before taking a deep breath and revealing a very short and abridged version of his old quirk and how he gave it to Toru. He thought Midnight would be furious with him, but she simply stared in disbelief.

Endeavor was also surprising. Toshi expected shouting and demands, but the flaming man simply stared at the map as he said. "So your successor is in the projected route of all the nomu. We need to get her and keep her away from them, and All for One should he escape Tartarus."

"Yes, which leads me to another issue," Nezu said as a black dot appeared on the map and started moving slowly but steadily across the country. "That is a large and unidentified man moving in a straight line and tearing through anything in his way. I just received word from Gran Torino, who went to confirm it in person. He says that man is the monster that nearly killed him and the police when they arrested Kurogiri."

Eraserhead groaned. "Let me guess. He's heading for Tarturas?"

"That is the most likely target," Nezu confirmed gravely.

As the heroes started developing a plan, only Nezu noticed the red feather slipping away. He would ignore it and let Hawks do what he needed. Things were dire; a little vigilantism could be overlooked if it helped them win.

Hawks cursed internally as he moved quickly down the halls. Himiko's friend was in grave danger right now. 'Damn it, I am not letting Himiko suffer anymore. Hagakure should be in Numazu. I can get there and get back to UA with her quicker than anyone else. I won't let Himiko lose a friend. Who knows what that could do to her.'

As he stepped outside, he beat his wings, and Hawks took off into the dimly lit early morning sky at a breakneck pace. He'd do anything to keep his students safe, even if it was technically illegal for him to do so.

Notes:

oh boy in the last chapter we hit the 200K mark on words. that's wild.

our kiddos are going to deal with nomu, prison breaks, and Gigantomachia. who will deal with what? I kinda know and you'll get to find out in the coming chapters.

oh, I have a name for the vigilante Izuku fic. (the one where he's got the toxic relationship with Himi and the healthy one with Ochako) I'm gonna call it 'Caught in the Twilight'

see cause Izuku meets Himiko at night while doing vigilante work and he sees Ochako during the day while at school and he's not sure which way to go.

I'm thinking of having him fail the hero course entry test and decide to go for Gen Ed since it's still a good education and also there's a chance to move up to the hero course. cause come on its Izuku even if he goes vigilante I feel like he'd try to get a license and do it legally. or maybe I should have him decline to move up if he proves himself. I could have him feel disillusioned enough to not even want to try and be a hero. idk I'm still planning and plotting.
