Chapter 141

"Former Lieutenant Blake Belladonna… I'd say it's a surprise to be meeting you like this, but I can't honestly say that, now can I? Not when I've spent the last month traveling," Sienna Khan spoke as though she was casually meeting an old friend, projecting an air of authority and pure power that made it almost hard to even look at her directly- as if she was the sun. Behind her stood a few hooded guards wearing the old style of White Fang uniforms, though they all looked distinctly uncomfortable in the sweltering heat of Kuo Kuana. Oh.

And Ilia was there, staring at Blake awkwardly and looking as though she was about to do something incredibly reckless because Blake knew damn well she still had a smear of blue and yellow lipstick peeking over her collar but in her defense she hadn't expected Sienna Fucking Khan to just roll up to her parents' house at eleven in the gods damned morning as though she were an old friend!

"H-High Leader Sienna… I- I wasn't expecting you to come here directly… you- when you answered my message and said that you were coming coming to Menagerie, I thought you'd be going directly to the White Fang Headquarters in the city," Blake spoke up after an awkward second of silence and surprise, staring wide eyed at the woman who she'd once called auntie before she called her High Leader . Whom Blake once had tell her never to bow her head in her presence despite the lower station that Blake occupied at the time. "What… are you doing here?"

"Merely visiting my old friends and having that meeting you wished to have," Sienna answered, breezing past Blake without a care in the world as she sauntered into the house as if she lived there. Which, considering how Blake was vaguely aware of the looks that her mother, her father, and Sienna gave each other… she kind of did in Blake's youth. "It's good to see you again, kitten. Guards- stay outside, keep watch on the premises. Ilia, stay with me… do try not to stare too hard at Blake now, alright?"

"Er- yes! Yes, High Leader!" Ilia stumbled over her words as she entered as well, both Sienna and Ilia removing their shoes and putting on guest slippers as they came inside. Blake, meanwhile, simply shut the door with wide eyes and flat ears, blinking slowly as she followed them along. "Blake… it's… it's good to see you again. I… you really did move on from Adam, huh? I'm glad. He died in Vale, right?"

"He's… dead, yes," Blake nodded slowly, matching Ilia's pace more than Sienna's as the tiger faunus walked through the halls with utmost familiarity and stepped into the dining room where Yang and Weiss were currently having a late breakfast- both of them still dressed in their pajamas and looking distinctly disheveled… not that Blake could claim that she was any better, considering that she was wearing only a long night shirt that hung off her shoulder and was still rumpled and just a touch smelly from having been doing… more activity than she probably should have been doing in her parents' house last night. "Look- Ilia… I'm… I'm sorry for running away. The one thing I regret is that I never told you that I was leaving. But… I couldn't do it anymore. The paranoia, the fear… the horrible things that we were doing. I wanted justice, a better world for everyone , and I know that's a privileged view of the world because I got to grow up in the safety of Kuo Kuana, but… I just…"

She paused, looking away, shaking her head and sighing as she and Ilia stood there, watching Sienna greet Kali and Ghira as an old friend that they were more than a little awkward around.

It had been a very messy break up, followed by strained reconciliation. Blake remembered it as the only time her father had ever shouted and raged in her presence. Remembered it as the only time that her mother seemed genuinely distraught to the point of sobbing in the entryway while cursing Sienna's name. Remembered it as the last time she'd seen Auntie Sisi until she'd made her way north through Mistral and joined up with the new White Fang. The militant White Fang. Biggest mistake of her life, even if it had led to the two best things to ever happen to her.

"I wanted to help faunus without hurting humans. I didn't want us to become murderers, monsters, bandits . I wanted… I don't know. Safety and certainty. A place where I didn't have to feel Adam grabbing me, pawing at me, treating me as his toy . I thought he was mysterious, cool, like a hero from my books. Like he was the cool bad boy version of the Wild Valkyrie and I could be his Lotus Rogue or something… but…"

"Blake. I'm- I understand why you left. I understand why you didn't tell me. I'm just…" Ilia sighed and rubbed her arm, looking away as the three adults in the room continued to exchange heated murmurs with each other and the atmosphere grew thick with tension. "I wish you'd taken me with you. I wish that you'd kept me in your life. I wish… I wish you'd chosen me instead of a pair of humans ."

"I- Ilia? Wh-" Blake stepped to the side, staring at the shorter girl in confusion as several things all clicked into place at once. "You mean you-?"

"I pined for you for years , Blake. When you were pre-transition, when you came out, when you started and when you went through the entire process. I've been in love with you for almost six years now, and… I really, really wish I'd had the guts to follow you and tell you how I felt. Even if neither of us were ready for that kind of thing at any time. Even if…" Ilia sighed and grimaced, looking away as she hid her expression beneath her custom horned mask White Fang. "It probably would have ended badly between us, honestly. Had some time to think about it, y'know? After you left and Sienna called me back to Mistral personally. Still pining, by the way."

"... I- I'm…. I mean," Blake spluttered quietly, not entirely sure how to take Ilia's words- in another world, Blake would have gone for Ilia in a heartbeat. If she'd stayed with the White Fang. If Adam hadn't sunk his hooks into her, if he hadn't made her think he'd ruined her for so long until a pair of overpowered idiots came into her life and became her team leader and girlfriend, respectively. "Um… thank you for telling me?"

"Yeah."

Ilia sighed and shook her head, then motioned at Yang and Weiss, where the two of them had very awkwardly left the dining table and huddled in the sitting area off to the side, shooting looks between Blake and Ilia in turn. "So. Your… girlfriends. Are… are you happy with them? Truly happy?"

"I am."

"... Good. I'm…" Ilia sighed again and crossed her arms. "I'm jealous. I'm happy that you're happy and you look so much freer than you used to, but I'm so, so jealous right now that if I wasn't trying really hard to be happy for you right now I'd feel like punching you in the teeth for making me feel all sappy and gooey for you. Can't believe you started dating some random human girl and a Schnee . Seriously, I can get the blondie because she's absurdly hot, but why the Schnee?"

"... I'm not apologizing for finding love where I did, Ilia. And moreover, don't insult my girlfriends. Yang and Weiss are two of the most amazing people I've ever met and just because Weiss was a Schnee doesn't mean that she's anything like her bastard of a father," Blake huffed, grimacing at the harshness in Ilia's tone as she stepped away and leveled an irritated side-eye at the chameleon faunus.

"... sorry."

"Yeah. I'm gonna go get changed," Blake muttered and trudged away, irritated at Ilia's utter lack of regard for the two women in her life that made her happiest, long hair fluttering in the wind as she started upstairs so she could put on some actual clothes… and maybe put her hair up in a ponytail or something, because gods, having ankle length hair was starting to get really inconvenient. "You stay here."

"Oh… okay."

And with that, Blake vanished up the stairs with a swirl and flutter of long, glossy black hair billowing in an unseen wind.

Meanwhile, on the couch, Yang watched Blake go and snorted out a little huff of laughter. "Man… you hate to see her go…"

"But you love to watch her leave," Weiss deadpanned, rolling her eyes at Yang's absolute inability to look away from Blake's notoriously pretty Bellabooty. "Must you really be like that before we've even gotten fully dressed?"

"Hey, it's already almost noon, I gotta catch up on my daily joke quota somehow!"

"Ugh. You're incorrigible."

"And extremely sexy."

"... unfortunately, yes you are."

"Aww, you love me."

"I do."

Yang blushed, rubbing the back of her head sheepishly and holding Weiss close as she made a sound that was somewhere between a coo of affection and a verbal keysmash. "Aww… you know I'm not used to you just answering like that…"

"You should be. I love you, Yang Xiao Long. You don't have to keep joking about that as if it will ever change."

"... I- ah… um… well… thanks. It… means a lot to me. And… I love you too, Weiss. Always will."

Weiss smiled, planting a kiss on Yang's nose with a little giggle. "... We should probably get dressed, though."

"Yeah, probably."

Notes:

Yes, Black Rose Sienna absolutely fucked Blake's mom and dad.
