The boy turned his head away sheepishly, likely realizing Seraphina's higher social status, and muttered some insults under his breath before walking away.
Seraphina then pulled the little girl she had been shielding forward. The girl's round face looked adorable, though her ponytail had been undone by the boy, and she had a defiant pout with tears swirling in her eyes.
Blinking back tears, the girl solemnly thanked Seraphina, "Thank you, big sister."
From her pocket, Seraphina produced a rainbow-colored strip of soft candy she had bought while shopping with Linden. Handing it to the girl, she advised, "Don't be sad, treat such lousy people as if they don't exist. If he bullies you again, go tell a teacher or another adult."
