Capítulo 4: Chapter 4

"Brian is an excellent spare part dealer so he must have people who can dismantle this car and sell the parts for very good prices or better still he will give me another way of going about it", he muttered to himself.

While clenching on her things, his thoughts went to the appliance that was behind the car, and turning to the back door to check their quality levels, Hendrick's face was crammed with happiness. His face relaxed with a defined wrinkle running from side to side on his nose, leading to the corners of his mouth as his eyes squint slightly.

He was still in shock that he was given all that and it was not a problem to him as the reason why he was doing what he was doing on the street was because of his mother who had health issues. The thought of his mother gave him a cold and sad feeling which made him lost in emotions for some time as he thought back to sacrifices that she had made for him ever since he was a kid.

Growing up as a single mother was not an easy thing to do after the death of his father. Hendrick had to toil and work on the streets of Buea just to make a living with his mother but things were always tougher as days went by, till his mom was being offered a job as a maid in the house of a very wealthy man.

That brought to light their faces as he was able to go to school and his scores were always the best. As years passed on, he was the talk of the school as he was offered a scholarship to study at the University of Buea and that made his mother very proud of her son.

Kendrick continued to be a good boy and a supportive son to his mom who had saved up a little for a roadside business and she sold fruits and vegetables to help him with his books. Turning into a fine young man, he did not let his physical appearance take him to the went path even though, ladies did not leave him to have breathing space as they were always interested in him and asked him to be either their boyfriend or sugar boy.

Life was difficult as his friends told him to do the needful to leave poverty but Hendrick thinking about his mother and the beliefs that she had established inside of him since childhood, made him not want to do anything that will bring her pain.

His mother had become sick and things had become tighter her fruit business was no longer in action due to the medications she had to buy every month and were very expensive. Her suppliers had stopped delivering fruits to her as the debts were becoming excessive.

Being unable to finish his last months at the newspaper agency as an intern, Hendrick took permission as he had to take care of his sick mother who could barely do anything by herself out of the chronic chest pain she was being diagnosed with due to the hard jobs she was doing and the heavy load her body had transported.

Life was was not fair to him but just when he thought that everything was over, he received a phone call telling him that he had been retained as a worked in the newspaper agency and that he had to report to work the next day. Kendrick was so happy that he carried his mother up and told her about the good news, she was so glad that she could not break well.

His job had started and everything was going well, Hendrick could now breathe some fresh air as his job as an accountant permitted him to give his mother the luxurious life that he had always dreamt of and he could buy even double of her medications making his mother the happiest woman in the universe.

But everything changed drastically one day when his boss came to his house with some policemen accusing him of raping his wife during his absence in the country, and Hendrick confused about what he was talking about, tried to go defend himself but a punch had landed in his face before he could even attempt.

" Stop hurting my son, what did he do go you all?", his mother cried out but the cops did not pay any attention to her, and one taking off her hands from her son's dress, pushed her to the ground, and Hendrick without any means to fight back as he was in handcuffs, screamed out his mother's name as she knocks over unconscious on the surface.

He pleaded with his boss to let him take his mother to the hospital but as a wealthy man, he gave me deaf ears. Hendrick was devastated in his prison cell as he did not have any news about his mother so thinking about the worst, he developed so much hatred for Mr. Tores and all the rich people that existed in the world.

Hendrick was sentenced to jail for something he knew nothing about and the more he pleased that he was innocent and called on his colleague that was on duty that day with him at the company to tell them the truth, he sat quiet and Mrs. Tores gazed at him could tell that she was the mastermind behind all that.

His whole world had crumbled and he was being curbed from having any form of assistance from anyone.

If not for his friend Brian who had taken it upon himself to be of help to his mother for the length of time that he was in Jail, Hendrick could never be in peace in his prison cell.

Sitting on the prison floor one day, Hendrick was called out by a prison warden that his case was been erased and that he was free to go back home. In his shocking state, he asked what was happening but as he was been led out through the corridor to the counter, he saw his colleague and Mr. Tores standing there and looking at him.
