Fu Rong was lying on the bed. For the past few days, she had been occupied with revising for her grade exams and attending extra classes. Her father came home once in a while due to his work, and her brother was still staying at his university. The paper bird she sent hadn't returned with news of Fu Guhua and the array. Apart from her school, everything seemed to be moving slowly.
She started attending school more often and temporarily closed her stall on Feng Shui Street. She hadn't taken any missions from the IBK platform recently. Fu Rong felt like she was slacking off more because of her schoolwork.
In her past life, she missed her chance to go to university because of her father's death, so she wanted to attend university in this life to make up for it. But she also knew that her luck was slowly flowing to Bai Yan, and it might affect her life and exam results, just like in her past life.
While thinking about these things, she suddenly got a call from Zhu Ximing. "Tell me, young master Zhu," she spoke politely. Though he and his friends were clients from IBK, they had more or less become followers of Fu Rong after their ghost encounter.
"Master Fu, are you free now? There is an emergency. I need to meet you. I'll explain everything when I see you," Zhu Ximing spoke, his voice trembling with urgency.
Fu Rong frowned. Though she couldn't spare much time with her exams approaching, his voice indicated the severity of the situation. "Hmm. Okay, meet you at the same cafe," she accepted his request.
At 3 p.m., when she left for the cafe, Zhu Ximing came directly to pick her up. "Master Fu, let's go to Qi Hai's place. It's a bit confidential. I'll explain everything while we drive," he pleaded.
She got into the car, and Zhu Ximing started driving. "Master Fu, one of my cousin's families is facing disasters. For the past few weeks, their family has been suffering from severe bad luck. My uncle had a severe accident last month. Fortunately, I had given him your talisman earlier, and he narrowly escaped death with just fractures. My aunt slipped from the stairs and hit her head. Their once-profitable business is suddenly facing problems and losses. My cousin even became suicidal and cut his wrists. Luckily, he was found in time and saved," he explained, swallowing hard.
Fu Rong frowned as she listened to the string of misfortunes. These things usually happened when someone provoked something they shouldn't have or had a curse cast on them. Whatever it was, she needed to see the situation firsthand.
"Young master Zhu, I need to see them to confirm what's bothering them. Also, you know my services aren't cheap, and I don't want anyone to disrupt me," she said professionally.
"No problem, Master Fu. I've already informed my cousin's family about you. Moreover, I gave them the talisman I bought from you, that saved my uncle, so they trust you. No one will disturb or look down on you. I promise," Zhu Ximing assured her, fawning sheepishly, which made Fu Rong chuckle.
They soon reached Qi Hai's villa. The entire family of three was waiting for Fu Rong. When they saw her, they were initially stunned by her age but gradually relaxed, thanks to Zhu Ximing's prior introduction.
"Master Fu, this is my uncle, Master Lin. This is my aunt, and this is my cousin, Lin Yu," Zhu Ximing introduced them. All three looked haggard and bandaged. Even with a single glance, one could tell how much peace they had lost.
Fu Rong observed them and saw a thick, cadaveric black aura surrounding them. It wasn't the typical curse or ghost aura, so she needed more information.
Madam Lin, a noblewoman who believed in ghosts and the supernatural due to her grandfather's influence, was the first to speak. Though initially hesitant, she welcomed Fu Rong politely.
"Welcome, Miss Fu. Mingming already told us about you. Even though he mentioned your age, I'm still surprised by your appearance. Thank you for coming to help us."
"Madam Lin, you are too humble. Thank you," Fu Rong replied, sitting in the living room and accepting the tea.
Madam Lin glanced at her husband and son. Fu Rong could sense their embarrassment at starting the conversation. Those who faced misfortunes often felt uncomfortable sharing their stories.
So Fu Rong took the lead. "Madam Lin, young master Zhu told me about the accidents your family faced, but I need to know more about the incidents before the misfortunes began. I've checked your auras, and they are indeed tainted with black qi. But I need to confirm how you were affected in order to solve it," Fu Rong stated directly, stunning them.
Master Lin smiled and said, "Miss Fu, I didn't expect you to be so straightforward. What Zhu Ximing told us is true—you're a simple and talented master."
"Everything started a month ago. First, I had the accident, and your talisman saved me. I initially thought it was a plot by business competitors. But when my wife fell from the stairs and narrowly escaped death, I had a feeling it wasn't just a planned incident. When my son attempted suicide, it broke us. That's when I knew something was terribly wrong. I told Zhu Ximing about our situation because of the talisman that saved me," Master Lin explained, choking on his words.
