Capítulo 32: The Doctor

As things were stirring upwards about selecting the new alpha, luna, and beta, things weren't that cool down at the medical facility.

The doctor stayed behind and heard the words said between Jeremy and the group of elders.

The doctor was a normal human being, but he knew whom he was working for. In fact he was very skilled as a doctor before he got this job from the corporation.

Working for such a big and mysterious corporation was a dream to anyone seeking fame, power, and wealth. The doctor learnt once he entered here about the great secret of the entire corp.

And since that day he lived in fear of spilling out such secrets in moments like being drunk or mad. He got the clear threat of exterminating him and his entire family if he dared to say anything about what he knew.

So he worked here for almost ten years. He couldn't say he didn't get enough, but the constant risk of losing his life was much greater than any gain.

Besides, at some point he had to indulge himself in the dirty secrets of this corp and pack. Without meaning it, he sided himself with one side and that gave him more gains and greater dangers.

"Damn!" The moment he entered the secluded and highly equipped room where Anna's body lay, he cursed. His loud curse attracted the attention of the nurses working here.

"What are you looking at? Keep minding your business if you wanna leave this place alive!"

The nurses weren't any better than him. They realized something grave must have happened, something they should know or ask about.

So without making a scene, everyone returned to do what they were doing.

The doctor stood in front of the comatosed Anna, while thinking about the current mess her absence would create.

He couldn't dare to say anything here. However he wasn't at ease at all. He knew these changes would leave things unclear for his future.

'Siding myself with one powerhouse here didn't promise me such a fate,' he blamed his bad luck and hoped for Anna to wake up at any cost.

However Anna's condition was a mystery even for him. He didn't know what caused her to lose consciousness like that.

She had no grave wound in her body. So he didn't know what was wrong here. Her body was looking just fine to him, which made him even more puzzled.

"Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!"

Just as he was lost in thoughts while revising the test results of Anna, his phone rang.

"This..." as he took the phone out, he couldn't help but freeze. The name of the caller was Chris, the leader of the intelligence department in the corp and pack.

'Did he... discover my links with him?' The poor doctor was about to faint in his place out of fear. With shaky hands, he raised the small and old phone to his ears while pressing the receive button.

"Hi Doctor, I want to ask you about something," the nervous and slightly angry voice of Chris came through the phone to make the doctor even more scared.

'Sh*t! He got me!' the doctor inwardly cursed while losing the feeling of his feet and the surroundings. And yet he tried to control his disturbed emotions and said:

"Anything sir."

"Good. Remember that drug we once branded as a failed test?" Chris' words made their way inside the hazy mind of the doctor. The doctor took a couple of seconds to absorb what Chris just said, while the latter thought of the doctor refusing the idea from the start.

"You know by our dear alpha's absence, a new one will lead. It's wise to side yourself with the winning side at such a point, right?"

"..."

The doctor's silence wasn't out of his thinking about this unexpected offer, but he was shocked! He thought he was done for. But like a miracle falling on him from the sky he found a salvation to his dilemma.

"S... Sure sir, I know what drug you are talking about..." the doctor's mind instantly worked like a machine. There was only one drug they deemed to be a curse and not to ever consider using it again over trials.

The doctor's responsibility was to handle the trials the research department was making. As a doctor his mission in life was to monitor patients and make them recover.

But here he acted like a death doctor. The trials mostly ended up with great failures. He had to analyze the process of trials and prepare detailed reports for the research department.

He witnessed many deaths during the decade he stayed here. It wasn't such a pleasant career in his opinion, not worth all this trouble.

"Great, I'll depend on you to test it over our alpha," Chris then threw his bomb over the doctor, "we need her to wake up as fast as we can. You understand me, right?"

This time the shaking was fiercer than ever. He couldn't control himself while hearing such undermined conspiracy against the current alpha.

"A new alpha is going to make his appearance soon," Chris could already see through the doctor's silence, "so it's best if you selected the right side. We'll shield and protect all our loyal people."

"I... U... Understand," the doctor didn't know what to say but this.

"So you are going to do it?" Chris didn't let him off this easily.

'Damn! He wanted a clear answer! I bet this bastard is recording this call!' the mind of the doctor spinned out of his fear before he realized he was in a dead end.

"I'll do as you ordered, sir," he tried to come up with the most suitable answer here.

"Great, I'll wait for the good news then," Chris said before adding, "let's pray our dear and beloved alpha is going to wake up soon."

'Damn you snake!' the doctor cursed in his mind before giving another diplomatic answer.

"I'll pray for that too."
