Capítulo 236: -232- What business do I have being a summoner

In the past, during the closed beta testing, Rozen, accompanied by the Rainbow Flower Butterfly, once learned a legend from an NPC florist on the 5th floor of Aincrad.

According to the legend, a long time ago, there was a kingdom's princess who raised seven incredibly beautiful butterflies. These seven butterflies danced in the flower beds every day, sprinkling phosphorescent powder that accelerated the growth of flowers. This display attracted numerous noble daughters, who praised the princess and offered her many compliments.

Driven by vanity, the princess attached chains to these seven lovely butterflies to prevent them from flying away, ensuring she could perpetually bask in their beauty. Eventually, the kingdom fell, and the princess, escorted by her guards, departed. Only these seven imprisoned butterflies remained in the castle's flower beds, until many years later, they finally escaped.

However, the chains around their necks persisted, a remnant of their captivity.

This was the background setting of the Rainbow Flower Butterfly, a treatment reserved for a particularly rare type of creature.

And this setting was the hint Rozen needed to acquire the Rainbow Flower Butterfly.

For the Rainbow Flower Butterfly, the chain around its neck was undoubtedly a psychological trauma. The memory of being imprisoned by the princess haunted them, making them shy away from combat with players and flee at the first sight.

For players to make the Rainbow Flower Butterfly their Familiar, besides meeting the conditions of not having killed any butterfly-type monsters and not equipping any weapons, the third condition was to leave the butterfly behind when it attempted to flee, without delivering a fatal blow.

For high-level players, attacking would lead to the butterfly's death, while low-level players needed to use a weak level-1 ranged attack to avoid killing it.

Then, just one more thing needed to be done.

Having done this during the closed beta, Rozen was quite experienced in the process.

In the midst of the Rainbow Flower Butterfly's cries, Rozen extended his hand, touching the chain on its neck.

In the next second, a window popped up in front of the chain, displaying its basic information, messages, and durability.

Whether it was weapons, armor, or other items, they all had a status called durability.

Durability gradually decreases as the player used the item or held it, eventually reaching zero and causing the item to shatter into fragments, disappearing irreversibly just like a slain monster.

Naturally, if an item with durability was attacked, the durability would decrease by an amount determined by the attacker's attack power, their defense, and other factors. Once the durability hit zero, the item would break.

And now, Rozen's objective was to break this chain.

"Well, then."

Rozen took out a throwing pick from his waist pouch, holding it high above the Rainbow Flower Butterfly, which stared at him with fearful eyes.

"Clang!"

The visual effect of a sword skill shimmered on the throwing pick.

However, this time it wasn't green; it had a shade of orange.

During the initial stages, the skill named "Blade Throwing" had two sword techniques available: a long-range single shot and a closer range thrust.

The former had greater range but lower power, suitable for drawing the attention of monsters from a distance.

The latter had shorter range but higher power, suitable for interrupting monster attacks at close quarters.

Of course, "higher power" was a relative term; otherwise, it wouldn't only be useful for interrupting attacks, but could also be deadly.

Rozen wasn't seeking to kill, though; he hoped to break the chain using the higher power of the thrust compared to the long-range shot.

And so,

"Swoosh!"

The throwing pick descended like a laser, striking the chain around the Rainbow Flower Butterfly's neck.

"Clang!"

With the sound of impact, the orange-glowing throwing pick was repelled by the chain.

However, the durability of the chain decreased rapidly.

"Wu?"

As the Rainbow Flower Butterfly observed this, it seemed to freeze in place, ceasing its struggles.

Ignoring the lifelike reaction of the butterfly, Rozen retrieved a second throwing pick.

"Swoosh!"

Once again, the throwing pick enveloped in orange light pierced through the air and struck the chain.

"Clang!"

With another striking sound, the throwing pick was once again deflected by the chain.

Right at that moment,

"Crack."

A faint cracking sound emanated from the chain.

The eyes of the Rainbow Flower Butterfly lit up.

Rozen smirked.

The durability of the chain around the Rainbow Flower Butterfly's neck rapidly decreased to zero.

Finally,

"Bang!"

The chain shattered completely, bursting into pieces.

"Alright!"

Rozen couldn't help but exclaim.

After all, during the closed beta, due to the absence of high-performance throwing items like the "Throwing pick," he had to strike the chain with small stones hundreds of times, spending a whole hour to complete the task.

Now, with just two thrust attacks, the chain shattered in mere seconds. Rozen couldn't be happier.

Then, as if truly moved, the Rainbow Flower Butterfly let out a contented cry and fluttered into Rozen's embrace.

"Hahaha!"

Rozen couldn't help but laugh, holding the adorable creature close.

At the same time, the color of the cursor above the Rainbow Flower Butterfly's head began to change. From the typical monster red, it suddenly turned harmless green.

In that instant, Rozen gained a Familiar.

"Congratulations on acquiring the Familiar Rainbow Flower Butterfly. Do you want to give it a name?"

This message window appeared before Rozen.

With the Rainbow Flower Butterfly clinging to him, he inputted the name he had chosen during the closed beta.

"Saihou."

Which roughly meant "Rainbow Butterfly."

Don't make fun of it.

If you make fun of it, I'm gonna lose it.

And so, Rozen obtained the Familiar he had used during the closed beta.

"Now, with this, those folks from the closed beta should recognize me, right?"

Being a player who had a rare butterfly Familiar and was known as Rozen during the closed beta, he was nearly universally recognized.

"Saihou is only level 1 and its direct combat prowess isn't high."

It wasn't just the Rainbow Flower Butterfly; Familiar monsters didn't have particularly high direct combat power.

After all, they were small animal-like creatures. How strong could their combat abilities really be?

However, regardless of the Familiar type, they possessed one or even several special abilities.

For instance, the ability to sense approaching monsters.

Or the ability to heal a small amount of their owner's HP.

Or the ability to inflict negative statuses on enemies.

And so on and so forth; the value of a Familiar was determined by its special abilities.

The Rainbow Flower Butterfly had several special abilities as well.

Currently, however, as a level 1 Familiar, it only had one special ability. As its level increased, more abilities would unlock, or it could gain more power through specific tasks.

Additionally, Familiars' AI programs weren't highly developed. They could understand about ten basic commands, and sometimes they might delay or even resist a command based on the player's actions.

For other players, handling such Familiars might require considerable effort, right?

But not for Rozen.

"If I can't even control my own Familiar, what business do I have being a summoner?"

Rozen voiced his thoughts to his Familiar.

"Let's go, Saihou."

Hearing this,

"Wu!"

The Rainbow Flower Butterfly flapped its wings and flew up, landing on Rozen's shoulder.

//// I just searched up and found out that the needle is called Throwing Picks. last chapter I used needle cuz direct translation. I don't wanna go back and fix it so yeah (・∀・). And regarding the butterfly's name Rozen gave, it's direct translation is called rainbow butterfly but the author wrote the name as Saihou. It should be like Sai for rainbow and hou for butterfly. I search it up and Butterfly is "Chou", but Sai is not rainbow. But I'll just call the butterfly Saihou since the author write it down himself. Sorry for this long ass explanation.....////
