Capítulo 15: Green hag nest
Severus woke up Marriet, ran to the roof as quickly as possible.
His only hope now is that the house will be tall enough to stop werewolves.
His hopes are dashed when he took a look around.
The house is a bungalow. It has stairs to reach to the top from three sides. The stairs are made of stone, rails lined with trellis.
They have no where to run.
There are anti apparition wards. He can fly, but he wasn't sure that he would be able to have the running start he needed with out getting attacked by at least one werewolf.
The pack is fast approaching.
He was sure he is going to get in to trouble for what he is about to do next, but it is his and Marriet's only option at surviving, even that, a fifty fifty odds.
He summoned two blue fire ravens.
The werewolves are already honing on them.
They Just have to get out of the anti apparition wards.
He directed the ravens to light up around house, leaving a single path to out side of wards, the werewolf pack is heading towards the back.
Severus indicated to Marriet to run and jump, while he did the same.
The fire on right side was set all the way to the outside, while the raven on the left side is still half way through.
One of the werewolves seperated from the pack, went towards right, while others converged from left.
Severus and Marriet ran like the devils behind them. After all one could say the devil is indeed behind them.
Two of the wolves got in before the fire can close the path way.
Severus cast a tripping spell with out looking.
Right at that moment, the wolf that went back leaped over the fire on right, blocking them with two behind, and one in the front.
They both ground to an abrupt stop.
Severus turned back, facing the two wolves in the back.
"Cast any spell you can. Make it strongest." he told Marriet.
Severus cast strongest sectumsempra.
It cut one of the werewolves right in the middle.
Marriet cast an incendio at the wolf standing blocking their exit.
The wolf reared back as the flames roared in front of it.
The otherwolf jumped on to severus.
Severus cast a stupefy, while ducking at the same time.
Marriet turned at just that time, punched the wolf square in the jaw.
Even with that, severus's shoulder got pierced by a claw.
The smell of human blood seemed to put werewolves on overdrive even as the fire hindered them.
Severus looked back at their supposed exit, cursed. They are enclosed by the fire, remaining werewolves seem to be getting around to jumping in to the enclosed space.
Severus prayed to all the gods he knew to spare him to day.
He held Marriet's hand, cast a freezing curse over them, ran straight through flames to their right side.
He started running straight to the anti apparition wards ending.
The werewolf whom Marriet blocked earlier by fire seemed to have stopped rolling around in mud.
It howled at them fiercely, started running for them.
Severus cast strongest cutting curse he could muster at it.
The other werewolves seemed to round up for them by running back from where they are to the other side.
Fortunately, fire covered most of the area on the estate, giving severus and Marriet enough leeway to run towards anti-apparition wards ending.
The fire ravens criss crossed on their trail, setting fire to entire grassfield the estate is standing on.
Even with all their efforts, the wolves seemed to be gaining on them.
It's right at that time Marriet stumbled.
Her wand flew from her hand in to the path of the wolves.
Severus pulled her to her feet, rushed her towards the apparition wards even as she made to move back to retrieve her wand.
She can buy another wand if she lived to see another day.
Suddenly, the wolves stopped their pursuit.
They seem to be wandering outside an edge from where Severus and Marriet are going.
Severus stopped running and examined wolf pack.
They seem to be waiting for some thing on the edge of field.
Marriet still held his hand, looked on apprehensively at the wolves.
It is when the black mist covered, a smell of garlic and rotting flesh covered the field where they are starting he realized what's wrong.
They walked right in to a roosting hag's thicket.
The mist contained a paralyzing agent, no one ever entered a hag's place with out preparation and returned to tell the tale.
It just will not do to die this kind of pathetic death.
That is the last thought in his mind as he collapsed.
Marriet looked around just in time as he touched ground.
"Severus.. Severus.." she cried shaking him.
She is too high strung on adrenaline, did not like the smell of the clearing, it's too dark.
She realized for the first time in her life, there's no one to tell her what to do next.
So she just sat down besides him listlessly, holding his arm, looking towards the fire which surrounded them from almost all sides.
Minute by minute, the fire burned in to cinders, were wolves are back but they did not enter the thicket.
If Severus was awake, he would have told her if the werewolves are hesitant to enter the woods, thicket is more dangerous than wolves. How ever, he is not awake. He is paralyzed and out like a light.
Thus, she just sat where she did, holding his arm, whimpering.
It is at this instant a vine latched on to severus's other arm and pulled him in.
It must be said if it was any one other than Marriet, they would have lost Severus in the tug of war that ensued.
So, the vine lost after pulling her in to the thicket about ten feet.
Marriet pulled unconcious Severus to his feet and held him fast. There is no bloody way she is loosing her brother to a stupid tree.
Marriet felt the next movement more than hear it.
All she could see next are a set of sharp teeth as she whirled around to shield Severus from what ever it is.
A blood curdling shriek ensued next.
Blood poured on to severus's shoulder, kept on pouring.
The creature, or what ever that attacked them slowly crawled in to view.
It, or she is in the form of a extremely old and wrinkled female.
The right part of her mouth is burned, but is slowly sewing it self back on.
If Severus was out and about, he would have told her that old lady is a hag.
Not just any hag, but a green hag, no wizard to date have survived one.
The hag jumped, her claws going straight for Severus's heart.
Marriet turned around with all her might, lost her footing.
The hags claws dug in to her back. The blood oozed out in a fountain, hitting the hag in stomach.
If Marriet wasn't as high on adrenaline as she is, she wouldn't have worked out how her blood burned the hag.
So, she did the only thing she could. She goaded her wound when ever her wounds are about to scab bled all over Severus. After all, it's about the only thing she could think of to protect him.
Minute by minute, her blood anointed Severus. Little by little, she lost her conscious too, but Not before her blood covered Severus.
So, they just laid there, in a bloodied heap, while the hag waited for the blood to dry out.
They would have died like that too, if not for Bellatrix Black who placed a constant surveillance on Marriet's uncle.
When she was alerted of her charge being moved out as per protocol, she received the alert. There's some thing to be said about a Black's intuition. When she felt the first chill down her spine, she decided she must inspect Marriet's shelter to confirm her safety in person.
When she reached the home, did not find Marriet, she wasted no time in raising an alarm about it. If it has been any one else, that would have been the end of it. After all, no one cared about two missing orphans.
How ever, when richest and most powerful wizengamot member's daughter raises alarm, it makes an army move. So, an auror battalion went out in the middle of night. When Alastor Moody got the word, he went out on the field him self.
But there was nothing they could do. Every part of green hag's thicket is poisonous, not a single person was willing to brave to rescue the kids.
Thus, it is with heavy heart Auror's left Frank and Alice longbottom in charge of the field situation, left to attend to their duties.
