Emma's POV
It was only after all of them left that I relaxed. To be honest, I don't like this feeling of always having to be on guard during discussions.
I turned to look at the Ancient One, who was smiling as always, and could only sigh. If only everyone were as easy to deal with as the Ancient One, who would let you go even if they knew something was wrong.
Still, I asked her, "Master, what do you think of this meeting? Is there any place where I could improve my speech?"
Although it was strange calling someone "Master," I considered the Ancient One someone who deserved to be called that by me, even if it sounded a little arrogant. After all, I have my little pride.
She replied, "I think you did well. If I had something to add, it would be that you shouldn't let others affect your emotions too much in situations like this."
"As you said, you could do this kind of project on your own, so why be angry and disappointed at the same time?"
Thinking about it, I replied, "Well, I just don't like this. He obviously approved my idea. I understand it's human nature to always want more, but can't he see the bigger picture? We're talking about the lives of billions of people here, but he was looking for what could benefit him."
Well, my personality couldn't be changed by Tsunade's wisdom, but I also knew I was being a little hypocritical, wanting others to help me without reward while I didn't act selflessly from the start.
Realizing my immaturity, I said, "Sorry, I think I'm very tired mentally, to the point I can't think clearly."
The Ancient One's gaze softened as she looked at me with understanding. She said, "You don't have to worry. With time, you will understand everything you want to, and all your confusion will eventually have its answer. So don't pressure yourself and let nature take its course."
I understood. As someone who had lived longer than all my three lives combined, she obviously understood things better than I did.
The Ancient One walked over and placed a hand on my shoulder. Her touch was grounding. "True strength, Emma, is not the absence of doubt or weariness. It is the will to persist despite them. And persist, you will. Of that, I am certain."
After that, she opened a portal leading to my apartment. Well, I guess today I can relax a little since there aren't any Shadow Clones in action.
Taking a bath, playing some games, reflecting on today's actions, eating, and thinking about the future, that's how I spent the rest of the day.
...
While Emma's day was like this, the same couldn't be said for everyone. The three—Charles, Jean, and Kitty started another meeting.
Emma had said that they shouldn't tell anyone about this meeting, not that they couldn't discuss it between themselves.
Charles asked the two, "What do you think about what happened today?"
Jean didn't reply but gazed at Kitty. Charles also looked at her, making Kitty, as a student facing a teacher and the principal (who could all read her mind), a little nervous.
She said hesitantly, "About what exactly? Teacher Emma's abilities? Her master being able to see the future? The theory about fate and the multiverse? Or what?"
Yeah, there were too many shocking revelations today that her mind still hadn't digested. Two hours ago, she was just a normal student—well, a normal mutant student.
She had been thinking about her project, finding a boyfriend, meeting her online friend, and creating some little game to play. Now, she was involved in a project that could change the whole Earth.
Charles folded his hands, his expression thoughtful. Clearly understanding the confusion of the young girl, he said, "All of it, Kitty. Don't worry. Just share your thoughts and conclusions. We're here to discuss it, anyway."
Kitty nodded, thinking inwardly, Then why don't you start first? It was only after remembering that Teacher Jean was there that she shuddered.
Sure enough, turning her head, Jean looked at her with eyes that seemed to say, Yes, I heard what you just thought.
Kitty could only smile awkwardly before saying, "To be honest, I'm still confused and haven't thought things through clearly."
"But from my understanding of Teacher Emma, she isn't a bad person. At least that's what my feelings are telling me. As for the things she mentioned before..."
"We're in a world where someone can control the magnetic field, where someone can modify conceptual things like probability. I'm willing to believe what she said is true."
"If we follow this theory, and supervillains start popping up—no, they have already started, like Captain America and the Red Skull, then things will get really difficult."
Charles was clearly impressed by Kitty's thoughts. Had it been another student, they might still be confused, but Kitty had already reached her answer, even though she said she hadn't thought it through carefully.
As for Jean, she understood Kitty's feelings better than Charles. She could hear the latter's hidden thoughts.
Unfortunately, Jean didn't understand her own feelings. She was used to judging people with her ability, knowing their intentions toward her in advance and how she should act accordingly.
Now, not knowing Emma's thoughts, she didn't know how to think about the latter. It was a novel experience, really.
Still thinking about it, she couldn't help but imagine her theoretical opposite: someone as powerful as herself.
Just this thought was enough to make her shudder. She knew her power better than anyone, or at least, she thought so.
If she wanted to do something evil, no one could stop her. Just with her Telekinesis, she could repel anything against her. Mental powers and the like wouldn't work against her.
Whether it's herself or Wanda, if they truly wanted to cause chaos, they could easily make humans understand that they were no longer the masters of Earth.
So, she had also reached her conclusion: even if there was only a 1% chance that what Emma and her master said was true, they couldn't afford to ignore it. They must prepare for any future catastrophe Earth could face.
She said, "I agree with Kitty's opinion. Even if there's only a 1% chance that what Emma and her master said is true, we should prepare for it. The cost of ignoring such a possibility is too great. If we're wrong, then all we've lost is some time and effort. But if we're right, we may save countless lives."
