Capítulo 26: Chapter 25: Full Awakening - Part 2

Have you ever had a sense of Déjà vu...like you're living through a situation you've experienced once before?

Like a sort of...vision, you have! Good, because that was my life now...

I've been in this loop...for so long, it feels like centuries have passed and yet, no matter what I do, I just wake up in the same place, day after day, fight after fight, death after death...

I'm tired, not in the physical sense mind you...no, I'm just...sigh. I can't really explain it well. 'Ah and here it comes in 3...2...1.'

Clank!!!!

And now cue the duck face followed 36 steps down to the ground floor. Ah, he's as disgusted as ever.

Nothing really changes in a loop, well besides the actions I take differently, but even if I do something different, I just end up back in the cage.

I run away...back to the cage, I kill everyone, back to the cage...I do nothing and let the events play out...wanna take a guess at what comes next.

If you guessed correctly, then you're absolutely right...I end up back in the cage!!!.

"Get up, it's time," he commanded gruffly, unlocking the cage with a clatter.

As he spoke, the figure in the cage stirred, its eyes opening slowly. His were eyes filled with absolute boredom.

'Yeah, yeah I know, sigh, seriously, why do I have to wake up to see this guy's ugly mug every time the loop starts? Now I'm missing those times with Felicia...granted they cuddled only twice, but still...

Grim got up without complaint as the man yanked the chain for Grim to follow him. This guy really loves yanking my chain, doesn't he...

...

They walked through winding, desolate corridors, Grim slowly trailing behind as he observed the expensive art pieces for the hundredth time.

Eventually, they arrived at a stark, grey room, defined by its concrete walls and the chilling sense of emptiness.

'Ahhh! Home sweet home...'

Above, behind double-sided windows, sat twelve men, indulging in a feast fit for kings.' No matter how many times this happens, I still can't get that image of that Tramp stamp out of my head.'

Grim thought with a shiver eying a particular roundish man he had butchered on his 27th loop or so.

One of them, a man being fed grapes, glanced down at the boy with a mixture of curiosity and Lust.

'Then there's the boss, or what I recently found out the true name of... It's Michelle.

Yep, you heard right, the China Town gangster overlord Chunii, who had kept him as a slave for over a decade...his real name was Michelle.

'I guess I now know why he decided to change his name, not like "The boss" was any better.'

"Well, here he is, our reigning champion," he remarked with a tone of cruel anticipation. "Let's see if he can survive our next challenge. It's bound to be interesting..."

"Let's get this over with, I have places to be," another man interjected, his voice dripping with boredom. It was clear from his demeanour that he had nowhere else to be; his words were merely an affectation of importance.

"You know the rules," the first man replied. The twelve men then simultaneously pressed a button on their chairs, casting their votes in the twisted game of life and death.

"Then let the match begin," the first man declared with a sense of finality.

As the announcement echoed through the room, a section of the concrete wall began to rise, revealing a dark void beyond.

'Sigh, and now I'll lose my functions in 3...2..1...'

From this opening emerged a pair of crazed, yellow eyes, belonging to a wolf that had been starved and abused, its mouth foaming in its frenzied state.

'Oh, hey Cubby, yes I decided to name him Cubby, well after killing him hundreds of times I've actually grown quite attached.'

'We have a lot in common after all.'

The boy stood motionless, offering no reaction to the impending threat.

The wolf, driven by hunger and devoid of its natural caution, charged at the boy with a ferocious growl, its jaws wide open, aiming for a lethal strike.

...

The room was charged with a palpable tension as the wolf lunged towards the boy.

Its crazed eyes glinted with a primal hunger, its jaws snapping open and shut in anticipation of the kill.

The boy, however, remained disturbingly still, his eyes cold, betraying no hint of fear.

The wolf, driven by instinct and desperation, attacked with ruthless aggression. It darted forward, aiming to clamp its jaws around the boy's throat.

But at the last moment, the boy sidestepped with grace, avoiding the fatal bite by mere inches.

'Oh, so close better luck next time Cubby.' Grim cheered inside his mindscape as all he could do was watch...

The wolf's momentum carried it past him, and it quickly wheeled around for another attack.

The spectators above watched with ghoulish delight, their cheers and jeers echoing through the chamber. "Look at him dodge! Like a rat in a trap!" one of them shouted, his voice laced with sadistic amusement.

The boy, hearing the taunts, remained focused, his expression unchanging. He observed the wolf's movements with a detached interest, analyzing its patterns and weaknesses. The wolf, now more cautious, circled the boy, looking for an opening.

Again, it lunged, faster this time, its teeth aiming for the boy's arm. The boy, predicting the move, pulled back his arm and countered with a swift kick to the wolf's side.

'Wow, that was a bit much me, your lucky Peta isn't watching.'

The impact was solid, but the wolf, fueled by hunger and rage, hardly seemed to feel it.

The fight escalated, a savage dance of attack and counterattack. The boy's movements were precise and efficient, each dodge and strike calculated for maximum effect.

The wolf, on the other hand, fought with wild abandon, its attacks becoming more frenzied and desperate.

'Looks like it's gonna be coming to an end soon, I wonder what I should do for my next loop, oh how about chilling in the spa for 20 minutes, that's how long it normally takes before the loop is reset.'

Well, honestly the loop resets randomly, though the most consistent time is around 20 minutes or so.

As the battle wore on, the boy began to show signs of fatigue. A misstep allowed the wolf to graze his shoulder with its teeth, drawing first blood.

The crowd above roared in approval, their bloodlust ignited by the sight.

The boy, now with a trickle of blood staining his shirt, changed his tactics. He began to bait the wolf, feigning weakness to lure it into a false sense of security.

The wolf, sensing victory, became more aggressive, its attacks growing reckless.

Then, in a moment of brutal clarity, the boy saw his chance.

As the wolf lunged once more, the boy sidestepped and swiftly moved behind it.

Before the wolf could react, he locked his arms around its neck in a chokehold. The wolf thrashed and howled, but the boy held on with a vice-like grip.

'Sigh, well I guess I'll see you in the next loop Cubby, but we really do have so much in common, we've both suffered unjustly, we've both been left to starve and be obedient to those that thought lower of us...But most of all, we're the same because...'

With a savage intensity, the boy was about to bite into the wolf's neck, wanting to tear flesh and muscle...

But stopped...he stopped himself from finishing off the Wolf, who had already resigned to death.

"I...what have I been doing this entire time...ha, haha...it was so obvious, but I was blinded, blinded by the cage that's been around me all my life."

The crowd above were confused by Grim's actions. They were looking for a bloody victory, and yet they didn't get it.

The wolf opened its eyes and stared hard at Grim, no longer were its eyes filled with blood lust or fear...now they were as clear and intelligent as any other humans would be.

Grim, placed his small hand on the wolf's matted fur, and slowly stroked its neck as if to try and comfort it.

"I finally understand..."

As Grim uttered those words, the twelve spectators were not happy, especially Michelle who stood up from his Chair and shot his gun, breaking all the glass.

He then pointed it at Grim and commanded in an authoritative voice." What are you doing pet, finish it."

Grim didn't even look at Michelle, he didn't give him the time of day, he paid all his attention to the wolf who seemed to be enjoying Grim's pets.

"I see, well then as a disobedient pet, it's my responsibility as a master to put you down," Michelle said, before aiming at Grim and shooting a single bullet.

Bang!!!

Grim smilled...before everything turned to black.

Grim, who had been lifeless moments before, began to stir. He opened his eyes and blanked...

There was no, shitty smell, no cage, and no guard coming in and taking him to fight Cubby...no.

Now he was surrounded by darkness.

Well, that would have been the case if not for the flickering blue flame behind him. Slowly turning his head, Grim saw what seemed to be a wolf skeleton with fur.

Its eyes were hollow, and it sat on the ground that couldn't really be called a ground, more like a surface.

Ripples of darkness spread, every time either he or the wolf moved, and he could only see this because of the small flickering flame.

The loop, it was over...he finally knew what it was, he finally had answers to questions he'd always wanted, maybe not all, but some.

Grim, turned to the wolf before taking a few steps towards it...when he was finally less than a meter away, he bent his knee and knelt in front of it.

"I'm sorry it took so long...thanks for being patient."

"Awwwooooooooooooooooo!!!!" The Wolf howled out, its call echoing into the Abyss.

Grim smiled slightly and closed his eyes...the wolf stopped its screeching howl and craned its neck down.

The two rested their heads together.

And then...Grim spoke.

"Lend me your strength...Σκιά. "
