Chapter 084
[The Tower of Eraskis has issued a challenge. Get close to the King of Eraskis and assassinate him. If you fail to do so, you will forever be trapped in this fragment of time.]
Alex stared at the message and frowned. Rubbing his forehead, he looked down at the book titled 'History and Mysteries of the Eraskis empire' on the table that he had just finished.
It had been three days since he had been stuck on Level 10 and time was ticking away. To finish his quest, he first needed to get information.
So, for the last three days, he had been asking the residents of Eraskis questions about the place and the king.
Thankfully, he could use his hero points as a currency so he was able to get a room in an inn and even bribe some soldiers to find out more about the king.
Today, Alex had come to the public library to learn about the history of Eraskis and what he found surprised him.
Apparently, Eraskis was the name of the biggest empire in the world that was 5000 years old. Despite being so old, it was still going on.
Although Alex had heard that the current king was not a good king and the threat of the demon king was scaring people as this was the year that a fight between humans and demons were most likely to start.
The worst thing was that Eraskis hadn't found the hero from the prophecy yet.
"It's a cliche demon king vs hero world."
After reading the book, Alex muttered. He gazed out of the window then turned towards the librarian who was passing by his table.
His mind began to race as he made a summary of what was going on.
He could already guess a lot with the information he had acquired.
'If it's really a cliche fantasy world, then a hero would be found soon and a fight against the demons will start. In the end, humans will win and the hero is gonna be married to a harem and become the next king.'
But going by the information that was revealed to him, nothing like that happened.
'The Demon lord probably won the battle going by the fact that I'm in a fragment of time. The hero… I don't know if he fought the battle or not. But he at least never won.'
Alex also guessed that the king had a hand in the demons winning the race war. After all, he was supposedly corrupt according to many people in the inn he was staying at.
There was also the fact that his quest in Level 10 was to assassinate the king.
'The system prompts said that I was in a time before Eraskis was ruined. So, after winning the war, The demon lords probably ruined Eraskis and created the Tower of Eraskis.'
There was no guarantee that what Alex was thinking was correct but that was the only scenario that made sense.
Anyway, the main thing here was to find a way to assassinate the king.
'There's some kind of barrier around the palace.'
In the centre of the large city, there was the royal palace and Alex had already tried to sneak into it. But a barrier had stopped him from entering.
He had tried to destroy the barrier but it was practically impossible to do it. Eraskis was famous for its magic crafts and the barrier was one of them.
No one other than those invited by the Royal family can enter the palace and the king doesn't go out often.
It was incredibly hard to assassinate someone like him.
'There would be a way. If I don't hurry, I will miss the Avengers events.'
Alex thought in his mind and left the library.
He needed to find a way today no matter what. Roaming around the town, he didn't know what to do.
A fantasy world was cool but he didn't have time to sightsee.
He just kept going around, trying to think of a way to get close to the king. His steps led him to the Adventurer's guild – The most common place in a isekai novel.
Barbarians and warriors were drinking on the back and he could see some teenagers looking around with a nervous expression. They were the rookies that every fantasy novel had.
Most of them get killed at the start depending on how lighthearted the author wanted the novel to be.
There was a table full of females and just one blonde guy who was flustered as the girls kept sticking their bodies with him.
'The beta harem protagonist.'
Alex thought and walked through the guild and reached reception where a female elf receptionist was standing.
'Ah, elf receptionist… Another cliche.'
He thought in his mind and chuckled.
His plan was to just ask some questions but before he could speak, the receptionist opened her mouth.
"Hello, are you here to register as an adventurer? Or you want to simply sign up for the annual Royal Arena competition."
"Uh no, I am not here to register. But what is the Royal Arena competition?"
Alex asked, attracted by the word 'Royal'.
"It's a competition that is held every year as a tradition of the royal family. The winner of it would be bestowed a gift by the Majesty himself."
His eyes widened as the receptionist explained.
"So, you mean the king would attend the event?"
"Yeah, he will be there. The winner would even get to have a talk with him for a few minutes."
He smirked hearing that.
'Five minutes.'
That was more than enough to assassinate the king. He finally found a way.
"I would like to register for it."
He said and looked towards the elf receptionist.
At that moment, Alex didn't know that a certain god of mischief had already landed on earth and New York would need his services soon.
