Chapter 065
Peter gulped as he entered the sewers. The underground sewer was dark and humid. Just the smell was enough to make him feel like he had eaten something weird.
But he didn't have a choice here.
His intuition was telling him that Dr. Connors was surely gonna come here in his lizard form and he needed to get evidence as well as attempt to defeat him before he put others in danger.
'I won't let you harm more people doc.'
He thought as he shot webs on the walls of the sewers and slowly, made a platform out of webs for him to sit down on, just above the sewer water.
The webs also acted as a way for him to sense the movement in the sewers.
If someone comes close, the webs will tingle and he will immediately know of any unwanted presence. Or in his case wanted presence.
In the end, he also stuck his camera to the wall, hoping to take photos of the Lizard once it appeared.
'If the police won't listen to me, they will at least listen to the evidence.'
He thought as he laid down on his webs.
Although they didn't seem like it, their tensile strength was unbelievable coupled with their elasticity.
It won't be wrong to say that his web fluid and web shooter was his best invention till date and they were a major reason why Peter could act as a hero.
'If only they don't dissolve after three hours.'
He thought and took out his phone, thinking to play games on it to pass time.
There wasn't much aside from waiting in the sewers and to distract himself from the horrible smell of the sewers, Peter started to play games on his phone.
Time slowly passed in the sewers.
From time to time, he will see a dirty mouse running around but aside from there, there was nothing.
After two hours, Peter started to get impatient.
'Was I wrong? The Lizard ain't coming…'
As soon as he thought that, one of the webs tingled. He sat up straight, getting ready for a potential attack.
A large shadow appeared on the wall and Peter pulled down his mask. His heartbeat increased as he kept staring at the shadow.
But it was not like he had thought.
Rather than the huge lizard, a normal lizard slowly crawled on top of one of the webs. Soon, another web tingled and another lizard crawled on it.
Like that, one by one, a lot of lizards started crawling towards him.
They moved past him and Peter wasn't able to guess what was happening. Restless, he tried to notice the movements of the lizards and slowly started moving behind them.
Right then, a shadow leaped at him.
It was Dr. Connors in his lizard form!
Thankfully, his spidey sense worked at that moment and Peter turned around in time to intercept The Lizard's attack. But he was a little bit too late.
The Lizard's claws pressed him against the webs as Peter struggled under its weight. His body winced in pain as The Lizard dug its claws in his body.
"You stopped me once. You won't stop me again." The Lizard said, it's yellow eyes fueled with rage. "I'm getting stronger every day!"
It roared, wanting to finish Peter there for good.
It has a plan now, to evolve humans into an advanced species and it didn't want vigilantes like Peter to interfere with it's plans.
A painful groan escaped Peter's lips as he felt The Lizard adding more strength. He knew that he would die there if he didn't do anything.
At that moment, he screamed and in a rush of adrenaline, Peter punched the Lizard in its face which relaxed it's claws digging into his skin.
Without wasting time, he shot his webs directly into its eyes, blinding it and jumped to the side.
"Rawww!"
The Lizard roared, getting the web out of its eyes. As Dr. Connors had explained earlier, reptilian creatures became aggressive if threatened and with another dosage of lizard genes, it was way stronger than before.
It leaped at Peter, sending a claw down at his neck.
Peter grabbed the claw, trying his best to overpower The Lizard, but he was at a massive disadvantage.
The sewers were a difficult place to fight in and The Lizard knew it better than anyone else. In the end, Peter wasn't able to stop the claw from grazing his neck.
"You are weak. Even humans like you are weak!"
The Lizard smiled seeing Peter in pain and punched him straight in his stomach. To not get pushed into a corner, he shot a webline to the other side of the sewer.
He tried to swing to the other side but a giant, reptilian tail slammed him down to the ground. His blood got mixed with the sewer water and the same dirty sewer water entered his mouth and nostrils through the mask.
"Cough… Ahh…"
Peter coughed as he tried to get up.
He knew that he wouldn't be able to win against the Lizard like this and tried to run away, but a large leg slammed down on his head.
"You will die here." The Lizard said as it brought down its claws.
But before its claws could cut off Peter's head, a wild energy blast slammed into him with a howl. The Lizard dropped down on the ground and looked up.
"Sorry, I was late."
There, a person in a hood and black costume was standing with a giant wolf standing beside him. It was Alex who had gone down in the sewers to look for Peter, knowing the plot well.
'The hibernation period ended just a while ago, so I was late. It looks like Peter was beaten up badly.'
He glanced at Peter on the ground, then at The Lizard.
With a mental command, a blade appeared in his hands as Alex prepared to fight The Lizard. With his wolf at his side, he didn't fear The Lizard at all.
But strangely, Lizard just gave him a glare and leapt off into the sewer water. Before Alex could attack him properly, it fled.
'Is his mutation gonna end? Anyway, I need to get Peter to the surface first.'
He hurriedly went towards Peter and picked him up.
