Capítulo 4: Chapter 004 Saving Uncle Ben

Chapter 004

'I can't just stand there watching someone fall to his death.'

Alex took in a deep breath as he studied his chances here. He had decided. He couldn't let someone die in front of him, no matter how much it was necessary for Spiderman's origin.

If he really just let Uncle Ben die here, he would be guilty all his life.

But he couldn't do anything with his normal self.

He didn't have a superhuman body like Captain America or energy repulser like Iron Man.

His only choice here was to accept being a hero.

[Do you want to be a Hero or a Villain?]

Alex stared at the prompt and cursed.

'Fuck it! There's no way I can live a normal life after finding myself in the Marvel universe. I might as well become a hero!'

With his mind made, he thought of selecting the hero option and the vision in front of him changed.

He suddenly felt like something was entering his body.

Not only his body, but even his soul seemed to be going through some kind of modification, like power was getting pushed into it.

The screen in front of him also changed.

[You have chosen the hero path.]

[Your body and soul have gone through a modification. You have gained new powers and your overall capabilities have increased.]

There were more prompts besides these two, but Alex didn't have time to read through them.

He looked at the masked man who was just about to run straight at Uncle ben. Approximately in the next 5 seconds, Uncle Ben was gonna lose his life.

But Alex wouldn't let that happen.

He was feeling a new kind of power in his body. It was almost like he was on some kind of drug.

'I have to save him no matter what.'

Bracing himself, Alex leapt off.

The red light was still on and running on the streets was no different than having a death wish, but Alex was sure that cars won't be an obstacle.

This time, it was really like time had stopped for him.

'It's almost like I'm Flash.'

Alex counted down the seconds in his mind as he guessed that he had turned on one of his new powers.

'One.'

Everything was moving in slow motion and he could see the masked man colliding with Uncle Ben.

'Two.'

A gun fell from the pocket of the masked man.

'Three.'

Wind rushed past Alex, ruffling his black hair as he crossed the street. He was just a second away from the masked man and Uncle Ben now.

'Four.'

Both Uncle Ben and the masked man went after the fallen gun.

'Five.'

Before the masked man could pick up the gun, Alex put all the momentum he had into a single kick and struck him on the sides.

Time started flowing normally as the masked man slammed into the wall, bringing a close to whatever power Alex had activated. The sound of ribs breaking came out followed by a pitiful yelp.

Alex also felt pain echoing up his leg, but he ignored it and sent another kick.

This time, it hit the masked man's stomach, knocking him out for good.

"Ughh I feel like vomiting..."

Alex muttered under long breaths as his legs gave in.

He kneeled down on the ground as nausea came up. It was with his remaining strength that he stopped himself from vomiting.

He didn't want to vomit on the streets of New York on his first day here.

"Kid, are you okay?"

He looked back as he felt a hand on his shoulders. Uncle Ben had picked up the gun safely and was now looking at him with concern.

There was also a tinge of shock in his eyes as he couldn't fathom where Alex had come from suddenly.

"I'm fine. Just give me a little time."

"Take your time. You did a really brave job today." Uncle Ben said, patting his back and glancing at the unconscious masked man. "The police should be here soon."

It was then that Alex noticed that a crowd had already gathered around them.

Some people were taking photos, some whispering among each other and there were some that had already called the police.

'My mom would surely be angry.'

If the police were getting involved, they would surely call his mother as he was still underaged.

Alex was sure that his mother wouldn't take him fighting a criminal with a smile on her face. Maybe there would be a smile, but it would definitely be a scary one.

As he was thinking that, someone broke through the crowd.

"Uncle Ben!"

"Let me get past!"

"That's my uncle there!"

A teenager in a hoodie somehow struggled through the crowd and came out at the front. There was a feared expression on his face as though something bad had happened to his uncle.

But seeing his uncle without any injuries, he took a sigh of relief.

"Uncle Ben, are you okay? What happened here?" He asked with a hint of a developing voice.

"I'm fine. This young man here saved me. That guy there had a gun and if not for this kid intervening, I don't know what would have happened."

Uncle Ben pointed at the masked man first, then at Alex.

But Peter just gave a glance to Alex.

His whole focus was on the masked man, his expression changing to one of dread, recognising that the masked man was someone who he could have caught back in the deli.

'Fuck, it's Spiderman!'

On the other hand, Alex was starstruck seeing Peter Parker in front of him.

He had decided to meet him later as they go to the same high school but he had never imagined that their first meeting would be like this.

He gulped as he calmed his beating heart down.

He tried to form words to greet Peter but before he could let out anything, he heard the sound of police sirens.
