"I will do it. I will kill the Lycan Crown Prince. But you must promise to restore my family's good name." Madison had never sounded so sure before. Even when she got the first assassination mission due to the urgency of daily needs, she had never been so brave. That was so obvious from her trembling voice and her dimmed pupils, letting out the dominating yellow lantern light.
Prime Minister Douglas smiled with satisfaction. His slightly yellow teeth blended well with the dim light in the room. He had been hiding behind something, but now he was impressively showing himself. After one hand made a gesture, everyone standing behind him lowered their headscarf while showing their faces.
How shocked Madison was because all the people who stood in front of her were prime ministers from various plains. Why did they come together as one?
"Now, Madison, since I and my allies are still here, I will give you one more chance to think. Are you going to do this mission or refuse it?" Prime Minister Douglas was perhaps the equivalent of a 70-year-old human. However, the wrinkles on his face were barely visible except for the palms of his hands. It must be because he exercised his claws a lot.
"I have no chance to back off, sir," Madison said. "If I refuse the mission then I will die. After all, I had long wanted to restore my family's good name from the Supreme Lycan's false accusations. I, who come from the Gamma clan, can't possibly do that."
"You're not the only one who can't do it, Madison," Prime Minister Douglas replied. "But everyone in this world won't be able to do it if the Supreme Lycan doesn't do something." He was pacing back and forth with his hands behind his back. But he looked very calm and majestic. "That's why we have to overthrow his current reign. It is time for this world to go back to normal."
"Why are you silent, my daughter?" One of the prime ministers sneered when he saw Madison looking down and not answering anything. It seemed he realized that there was still doubt in her mind. "If you agree to this mission, then you must not hesitate in the slightest." Did he have the ability to read minds? Of course, this wasn't a mind link because Madison didn't try to communicate with him.
"I'm just not sure I can do it, sir," she replied. "I'm just a Gamma. I have no special abilities besides trapping someone with a trick. My success in killing an Alpha today happened because I have been stalking him for a long time and because he is not as strong as you think. But the Lycans…"
"They must have a weakness too, Madison!" Prime Minister Douglas leaned forward, trying to reassure her. "There isn't a single creature in this world that doesn't have weaknesses. So, you have to be sure you can find it."
"But…"
"That's your first assignment," he interrupted. "You need to find his weaknesses before finally killing him. We have long lived under the shadow of their darkness. Have you forgotten that during the last hundreds of thousands of years, the Alphas were slaughtered by the Supreme Lycan just because he wanted to have centralized power? Because if Alphas are born and lead, then we will live in packs. It could be a threat to him. In addition, he believes that Alphas may have tremendous power. It was what the Supreme Lycan had feared would be able to overthrow his reign all along. Because he and his descendants are ancient creatures, the kind of creatures that never evolve to gain new powers, while Alphas is a very mysterious kind of modern creature."
She gulped. She knew very well about the fact, that the past few hundred thousand years had become the horrific history of their civilization. No Alpha was allowed to live among them. They must die.
That was what made the world even more chaotic and terrifying because there was no formidable leader who could protect and lead them. All power was in one circle which unfortunately suffered from madness and greed for power. Many people had fought to overthrow the power of the Lycans, especially the Supreme Lycans, the Lycans who led in that era. But unfortunately, no one managed to do it.
And this time Madison would be the one fighting. Was she capable?
After a brief thought, she nodded without hesitation. After thinking about it she felt very tired of living in this era. She longed for a new era that her parents always told her about a bright and peaceful world in one complete pack. She wanted to taste that.
"I will not back off." Finally, she said. "So, what's your plan?"
….
The plan was that she must enter the castle of the Lycans, which was called the Majestic Castle. Only two Lycans were living there: Darkon Verecarl and Waldes Verecarl. They were father and son who got along very well.
Darkon Verecarl was the ruler of that era, or what was often referred to as the Supreme Lycan. Meanwhile, Waldes Verecart was the Lycan Crown Prince, Madison's target at this time. They had almost equal power. Fighting just one of them was already very difficult. Then how could she overthrow both of them?
"Supreme Lycan is in a coma at the moment. It would be much easier to kill him. The Sacred Healer had promised that he would not be able to wake up due to the karma given by the Moon Goddess. So, you don't have to think about him. Your focus is on the Crown Prince."
Madison took Prime Minister Douglas' words to heart. Along the way to the Labor Management Castle, she never forgot his words.
After handing over a fake ID to the guards from the Omega clan, she entered the castle grounds. There were lots of participants who would register to become servants in the Majestic Castle. 90% of them were Omega, just like Madison's current fake identity.
Gripping the identity in the form of the carved stone, she walked aimlessly. She wanted to check the surroundings, and if she was lucky, she might find some important information regarding Crown Prince Wald. It would help her in the mission.
But before she could go any further, a bunch of Omega bumped into her by accident. Because the situation was very cramped, something like that was very likely to happen.
"Good grief!" One of the Omega screamed. She looked very young, dressed like a maid and Omega like Madison: a dull dress with no lace and very rough-cut fabric. "I bumped you! I'm sorry! I'm not supposed to do it. Let me help you!"
Madison had lived a lonely life for a long time. All this time she wandered in the middle of the forest to hide. She barely communicated with the other werewolves. So, things like this were quite surprising, especially since their conversation had nothing to do with the mission.
So, she just nodded. But soon she slipped away in a hurry.
The girl who bumped into her pouted. "Is she mad at me?" she pointed her nose in front of her friends who shrugged.
Got away! Madison managed to sneak her way to the most spacious corner of the castle area. Its courtyard which was previously enough to accommodate a thousand people could now only be enjoyed from a distance of just a few tens of centimeters. Everything was claustrophobic, full of dust, and smelled of sweat.
The dizziness in her head got worse if a bell was not jangled by the Deltas who were on duty there.
All participants lined up neatly. Luckily Madison was able to get into the front row.
A Delta came forward to give some briefings. "Come forward one by one for the physical test! We'll have to see if you physically fulfill the requirements to become servants in the Majestic Castle. Other than that we will see if you are intruders or not." The whispering voices of the participants soared everywhere. "You guys know that the selection of recruitment will be one of the most powerful ways to infiltrate the Majestic Castle. And we will not allow such cunning people to escape our scrutiny. Only Omega and Delta mixes may apply. If one of you is proven not to be from that group, then you will be put to death."
Madison looked straight at the speaking Delta. Somehow, she felt that he had been watching her since earlier. But soon she looked away. She was sure that she would succeed this time.
The Delta waved again after giving instructions, "Move one by one and do as we instruct!" And the selection began.
The advanced participants were asked to rotate and make several movements. This was done with the aim that they could find out whether there were joint defects or broken bones in the participants. Only perfect applicants were accepted, which was why the selection process was so important.
"Next!"
Now it was Madison's turn. She moved forward confidently. Even after seeing several leaflets containing her sketches, she became a fugitive. After all, it showed her with a face covering. So, she would never be afraid.
But it turned out there was one problem….
"She's not an Omega or a Delta," said a werewolf who could see DNA through the aura.
All the Deltas on duty turned to Madison in very quick head movements. All the participants who lined up there did the same thing.
Madison stood tense especially when she glanced around. The castle gate suddenly closed, and the soldiers raised their weapons.
"You mean she is an intruder?" Another delta flung his hand out to reveal his claws. Then behind him appeared several mutant wolves that looked like monsters. With a cynical face, he shouted, "Kids, just eat her!"
The mutant wolves ran after growling, ready to pounce on Madison.
