Marcus Cutler POV:
The first thing I did once I got back in my car was bang my forehead against the steering wheel.
I was in so much trouble now.
Angela had questioned my competence and my loyalty to the Red Chapter in front of witnesses, and the absolute worst part of that was her questions were completely justified. I had met the with the leader of a Red Chapter kill team and defended their target. More than that, I had referred to their target by name. I didn’t say ‘vampire,’ I didn’t say ‘it,’ I called her Julia as though she were a person.
Was I really so far gone?
I shook my head. No. No, I couldn’t be. I didn’t really care about Julia and knowing the number of people she had left her imprint with meant she didn’t really care about me.
I was nothing special to her.
But then there was the fact she had gone so far to understand me, and to help me understand her. Even sharing her worst memories with me so she could show us how similar we really are.
