Chapter 504: The Legendary Hachiman
After leaving the clothing store, they arrived at a glasses shop.
"Hikki, are you buying glasses for Yukinon?" Yui asked with some confusion.
"Well, sort of," Hachiman replied casually.
"Recently, Yukino has been using her computer a lot, so I thought I'd get her a pair of blue light blocking glasses."
Since the cat website Hachiman helped Yukino set up was thriving, she often used her laptop to respond to inquiries from cat owners. Additionally, with the consultation module on the school's website, Yukino had to address various requests, meaning she spent even more time in front of the computer.
Yui's eyes brightened at this.
"That's a really good idea."
Seeing the array of glasses on the shelves, Yui became interested. She picked up a pair of pink, full-frame glasses and put them on.
Well, with the glasses on, the usual goofiness of this silly girl was greatly reduced, replaced by a more scholarly vibe.
But this look… with her well-endowed figure and pink full-frame glasses, it was somewhat familiar.
Hmm, perhaps it resembles the "female teacher" trope…
With the glasses on, Yui excitedly turned to Hachiman.
"Hikki, Hikki, do I look a lot smarter now?"
Hachiman sighed helplessly. "If wearing glasses made someone smarter, there wouldn't be so many fools in the world."
"You'd be better off sticking with your silly self."
"Annoying, you're the silly one, Hikki," Yui pouted unhappily but took off the glasses from her nose.
Hachiman glanced over and saw a pair of blue light blocking half-frame glasses on a nearby rack. He picked them up.
"This one should be good."
The glasses Hachiman held were quite simple, without any flashy decorations. But the sign read "Computer Use" and "Effectively Blocks Blue Light," exactly what he was looking for.
"Let me check," Yui said, looking at the sign and soon nodded.
"This one is great; it's perfect for Yukinon."
"Then we'll get these." Hachiman said, taking the glasses to the cashier to pay.
At that moment, a playful and cheeky voice reached his ears.
"Ah, isn't this Hachiman-kun? What a coincidence."
Hachiman raised an eyebrow at the sound.
Looking over, he saw two familiar figures.
Yui, surprised, spoke up, "Haruno-senpai and Hayama-kun?"
"Yaho!"
Approaching them, Haruno greeted with a smile, and Hayama nodded beside her.
"Hello, Hikigaya and Yui."
"Hi there," Yui responded politely.
As for Hachiman, he kept his gaze fixed on Haruno in front of him, remaining silent.
Compared to Yukino, her older sister was much sharper and had a scheming nature that Hachiman found unwelcome.
Noticing Hachiman's unwavering gaze, Haruno raised her elegantly shaped eyebrows.
"Oh, Hachiman-kun, please don't look at me like that. I might get shy."
Shy, huh?
Hachiman scoffed at her words, but before he could respond, Haruno suddenly had a realization.
"Ah, I get it now. You two are secretly dating behind Yukino's back, right? That's why you're so nervous now that I've caught you."
So she's still trying to stir up trouble?
Unfazed by Haruno's words, Hachiman stopped Yui from explaining and spoke in a calm tone, "Well, if Miss Haruno wants to think that way, then so be it."
Seeing Hachiman's nonchalant demeanor, Haruno raised an eyebrow in curiosity.
Had she made a mistake?
Haruno was unsure, as Hachiman's calmness suggested he wasn't caught off guard. She had originally planned to tell Yukino about this, but Hachiman's response made her reconsider.
If she was wrong, it could harm her standing with her sister, and she didn't want to worsen their relationship. After all, She was a doting older sister.
Smiling at Hachiman, Haruno extended an invitation, "Since we've run into each other, why don't we sit down and chat for a bit?"
Hachiman didn't refuse; after such a long time of walking, sitting down was a good idea.
After paying for the glasses, they all went to a nearby café.
Through their conversation, Haruno learned about the reason for their outing.
"So, you're buying a birthday gift for Yukino, huh?"
"Yes, tomorrow is Yukino's birthday, and as her closest friends, you definitely want to surprise her," Haruno said with a smile.
"Indeed, it's the least we can do," Hachiman replied, glancing at Haruno and Hayama across from him. "But you two are quite an unusual pair."
"Ha, we're just here for the New Year's gathering," Haruno laughed.
Hayama also chimed in, "Our families are old friends; our parents have been close for a long time. We're just here to join them for a gathering."
"Oh, I see," Yui said, intrigued by this new information.
"So, Hayama-kun and Yukinon have known each other since they were little?"
"Yes, indeed. If you really think about it, Hayama and Yukino could be considered childhood sweethearts," Haruno said with a smile, looking at Hachiman to gauge his reaction.
Unfortunately, she was disappointed. Hachiman simply sipped his coffee, showing no sign of surprise.
Childhood sweethearts? In this day and age, that's practically a losing proposition.
Moreover, Hachiman was well aware of their relationship. Given Yukino's personality, it was clear she would have no lingering attachments to Hayama.
While Hachiman remained calm, Yui was visibly surprised. Hearing that Hayama and Yukino were childhood friends, she couldn't help but ask, "Oh, so Hayama-kun and Yukinon have this kind of relationship? But why…"
Why does their relationship seem so strained?
Although Yui didn't finish her question, the others understood her meaning.
Hayama gave an awkward smile, "Actually, it's my fault. When we were young, I did something that hurt Yukinoshita, which is why things are like this now."
At the end of his explanation, the usually cheerful Hayama showed a look of self-reproach.
Seeing this, Yui chose not to press further.
At that moment, Haruno suddenly spoke up, "It's a pity our parents went somewhere else just now. Otherwise, I would have liked them to meet you, Yukino's friends."
As if summoned by the mention, a cool, familiar voice came from behind.
"Haruno, Hayama-kun, I didn't expect to find you here."
Looking over, Hachiman saw a gracefully dressed woman in a kimono, strikingly similar to Yukino and Haruno approaching them.
"Ah, are you done chatting? Mom," Haruno said, seeing the woman.
Indeed, this elegant lady was Haruno and Yukino's mother, Mrs. Yukinoshita.
Although she was the mother of two young women, time seemed to have left no mark on her. Her skin remained as smooth and delicate as a young girl's, and despite wearing a kimono, her well-proportioned figure was still evident. Her long black hair was neatly pinned up, giving her an aura of grace and elegance.
Mrs. Yukinoshita noticed Hachiman and Yui and, after a moment's hesitation, spoke.
"This must be Hikigaya-kun, then."
Hachiman wasn't surprised that she knew his name. As the head of the Yukinoshita family, it would be easy for Mrs. Yukinoshita to obtain his information.
Seeing an elder, especially Yukino's mother, Hachiman greeted her respectfully.
With a composed demeanor, he nodded toward Mrs. Yukinoshita. "Hello, Mrs. Yukinoshita. It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Hachiman Hikigaya."
Mrs. Yukinoshita, sensing Hachiman's demeanor, nodded slightly in approval.
Not arrogant or impatient, he was mature and composed—just as one would expect from the Legendary Hachiman.

Chapter 505: First Meeting with Mother-in-law
"Hikigaya-kun, I've heard your name mentioned many times before. Meeting you today, you certainly live up to your reputation," Haruno's mother said with a faint smile.
Seeing this, both Haruno and Hayama were somewhat surprised. For the typically cool and reserved Mrs. Yukinoshita to smile at Hachiman indicated a great deal of acknowledgment from her.
"Haha, you're too kind, Mrs. Yukinoshita. I'm unworthy of such praise," Hachiman replied with a light smile to her compliment.
Yes, Yukino and Haruno's mother, Mrs. Yukinoshita, is quite fitting.
Regarding this final big boss from the original story, Hachiman felt no intimidation. Currently, whether in terms of financial power or influence, he was on par with the Yukinoshita family.
Seeing Hachiman's demeanor, Mrs. Yukinoshita didn't mind. After all, Hachiman now had the qualifications to converse with her on equal footing, without the need to be humble or submissive.
To achieve such accomplishments at his age was nothing short of genius.
A genius tends to possess a certain pride, but Hachiman's humility and calm demeanor were quite commendable.
This further solidified Mrs. Yukinoshita's determination to have him as a son-in-law.
At this point, Mrs. Yukinoshita noticed the girl sitting next to Hachiman and inquired.
"Oh, and who might this student be?"
Unexpectedly addressed by Mrs. Yukinoshita, Yui seemed a bit nervous.
Sensing her tension, Hachiman reassuringly held her hand under the table and introduced her with a smile.
"This is Yui Yuigahama, who is also Yukino's best friend."
"Oh?"
Hearing Hachiman's words, Mrs. Yukinoshita raised her well-shaped brows.
In the next moment, she nodded at Yui with a smile.
"That's wonderful. I'm relieved to know Yukino has made good friends at school."
"Miss Yuigahama, please take good care of our Yukino from now on."
Hearing this, Yui nodded earnestly.
"Yes, yes, don't worry, ma'am. I'll always be the best of friends with Yukinon," Yui promised earnestly.
"Then I'll be at ease," Mrs. Yukinoshita nodded in agreement.
At that moment, Hachiman spoke up with a smile, "Mrs.Yukinoshita, we ought to be heading back now. We don't want to intrude on your family reunion with the Hayama family."
"Oh my, are you leaving already, Hikigaya-kun?" Mrs. Yukinoshita asked.
Hachiman nodded, "We just came out today to buy Yukino a birthday gift. Now that we have it, it's time to head back."
"Besides, this is a gathering for your two families, so it's not really appropriate for me to linger."
"When the time is right, I'll personally visit you."
"Is that so? Then I won't insist."
Though slightly regretful, Mrs. Yukinoshita nodded.
"I'm looking forward to your visit, Hikigaya-kun. Make sure to bring Yukino with you then."
Hmm, this feels like a mother-in-law waiting for her son-in-law to visit.
But that's understandable. Given his relationship with Yukino, Mrs. Yukinoshita indeed seems like an in-law.
"Then we'll take our leave."
Hachiman stood up and, after bidding farewell to the three of them, left the café with Yui.
Watching the two walk away, Mrs. Yukinoshita turned to Haruno and Hayama. "Haruno, Hayama-kun, let's head back too."
Agreeing with her, both Haruno and Hayama nodded compliantly.
"Yes, Mom/Mrs. Yukinoshita."
With that, the two rose to their feet and left the café with Mrs. Yukinoshita.
.....
The Service Club.
Hachiman, Yukino, and Yui gathered once more in the clubroom.
"Happy birthday, Yukinon!"
"Happy birthday, Yukino."
While offering their birthday wishes, Hachiman and Yui handed the gifts they had purchased the day before to Yukino.
Accepting their presents, Yukino's face lit up with a genuine smile. "Thank you both."
At that moment, a voice that was somewhat out of place chimed in.
"Oh, so Yukinoshita-senpai's birthday is on January 3rd."
The originally three-person Service Club now had an additional presence. Iroha Isshiki sat at the long table, smiling broadly.
"By the way, my birthday is on April 16th, Hachiman-senpai."
Hearing this, Hachiman, who was in the midst of cutting the cake, smirked.
"What does your birthday have to do with me?"
Since it was Yukino's birthday, Hachiman had personally made a cake for the occasion. However, before he could finish cutting it, this little devil had barged in and seated herself at the table.
Now she openly announced her birthday, clearly hinting that she wanted Hachiman to get her a birthday gift.
"Well, I'm definitely hoping to see what gift Hachiman-senpai would give me," Iroha remarked with a mischievous smile.
Hachiman shot her a glance. "Was that jade necklace I gave you last time not enough? And now you want a birthday gift too."
Despite his words, Hachiman still slid a slice of cake her way.
Accepting it, Iroha patted his shoulder with a grin.
"Don't be so stingy, Hachiman-senpai. The necklace was a Christmas gift, totally different from a birthday gift."
"Besides, I've been wearing it just like you told me to."
"See?"
With that, she pulled out the jade necklace Hachiman had given her from beneath her collar.
Yui, looking pleasantly surprised, chimed in, "Oh, Iroha-chan is wearing it too? I'm wearing mine as well."
With these words, she also revealed a dog-shaped necklace from her neckline.
Seeing this, Hachiman nodded, then turned his gaze towards Yukino.
Noticing his gaze, Yukino rolled her eyes at him. "What are you looking at? I'm wearing it too, but I won't bother taking it out to show you."
Hachiman didn't mind and just assumed Yukino felt a bit shy. Knowing that they're all wearing the necklaces gave him peace of mind.
After all, his original intention for making these necklaces was to serve as protective charms for the girls. If they weren't worn, it would have been a waste of effort.
After distributing the cake, Hachiman sat back down.
At that moment, Yui cheerfully asked, "By the way, Yukinon, have you decided on your career path? Are you going for humanities or sciences?"
Unknowingly, they had reached the end of their second year, the time when they had to make important life decisions. Whether to continue their education or start working, and if continuing, whether to choose the humanities or sciences—these were the questions they had to consider.
Hearing Yui's question, Yukino didn't hesitate to answer, "As for me, I'll probably choose humanities."
"Humanities?" Yui's eyes lit up, and she immediately hugged Yukino. "I chose humanities too! That's great, Yukinon. Maybe we'll end up in the same class."
Having gotten used to such affectionate gestures, Yukino gently patted Yui's head with a look of fondness.
"Is that so? That would be wonderful. Perhaps we really can be in the same class."
With that, Yukino turned her gaze to Hachiman.
Without needing further explanation, Hachiman understood what she meant and replied with a smile, "Don't worry, I'm choosing humanities too."
Compared to the sciences, humanities were relatively easier—just a lot of memorization.
With the boost from his maxed-out "learning" module, memorizing things was a breeze for Hachiman.
Not only did Hachiman, Yukino, and Yui choose the humanities, but even his other second-year peers like Kotonoha, Yumiko, Ebina, and Saki also opted for humanities. Even Saeko and Utaha, who were about to graduate, chose humanities back when they made their decisions.
Aside from the four who would leave after high school, most of the girls Hachiman was familiar with had chosen the humanities path.
However, for Hachiman, sharing the same career path wasn't enough. He wanted to ensure these girls ended up in the same class and, eventually, at the same university.
Seeing that all three of them chose humanities, Iroha chimed in thoughtfully, "Senpai, all of you chose humanities? Maybe I should choose humanities in the future too."
Hachiman sighed slightly. "You're not even in the same year as us. By the time you're choosing your path, we'll have already graduated."
"Ah, that's true," Iroha blinked and considered another question. "By the way, Senpai, which university are you planning to apply to?"
If they couldn't be in the same grade, then attending the same university should be the goal. Iroha wasn't going to give up on being with Hachiman that easily!
