November 1994
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
Amelia remained expressionless after hearing Harry's declaration of him killing Dolores Umbridge. Harry sensed her expression and sat back down.
"There is news about my blood feud too?" Asked Harry with a frown.
Amelia kept quiet for few moments. She sighed deeply, "Well... the minister has ordered that to address the precarious situation the wizarding Britain is in, this blood feud will be put on hold."
"Does he have the power?" Scoffed Harry in anger.
Amelia shook her hands, "The power to address any issue regarding blood feuds lies only with the Wizengamot, where things are decided by majority vote."
"But we have no limitations placed on the power on a minister, and he is using this loophole."
She added further, "He also have no direct power to stop a ongoing hearing on his whim but he is using the same loophole. To override this, we will need another Wizengamot hearing which have to vote against the minister's decision."
"I might have spared Dolores, as I had given not much thought when I had announced the blood feud with her. I had done so merely in a whim and to spite her," said Harry. "But now, if she steps in Hogwarts, I am going to kill her."
Amelia shook her head, "You shouldn't do that... I believe that Lucius is pulling these strings and he has knowingly thrown Dolores as a bait."
"If you don't act, you will be termed a coward. If you act and kill her, you will be termed cold blooded and an evil," said Amelia. "In both these worse, the first option is less damaging."
Harry nodded, "Maybe."
His voice was firm, "But if she sets her foot in Hogwarts, she will die."
Amelia wanted to protest but Harry cut her off, "No, Madam Bones. On your advice, I have been following the diplomatic route so far, but it had led me nowhere."
"Even after all the hearing in Wizengamot, Dumbledore got the entire case postponed by a year."
"This is my red line," declared Harry. "Dolores Umbridge dies."
Amelia, though reluctant nodded her head.
She continued, "In addition to Dolores being sent to Hogwarts, Lucius had proposed to send aurors during the Triwizard tournament for better security. Minister agreed to this," said Amelia.
She continued, "I believe that these will be Lucius' men, maybe his death eater comrades. They will follow his orders and not the rules of ministry."
"Why do they think that they can interfere in matters of Hogwarts?" Questioned Harry bringing the topic back to table.
"Well... the argument for this was provided by Dumbledore," started Amelia. "According to him, he agreed that without any doubt you own Hogwarts and have the right to make decision regarding it."
"But Hogwarts still lies in the territorial jurisdiction of the wizarding Britain. The students who study here are not private property. The responsibility to look for their welfare lies on the ministry of magic." said Amelia.
"He argued that even in muggle world, if the schools are privately owned, they are treated as a public place. As a private institution, you might have the right to determine what you teach here but you cannot shun the whole world out of it. Especially not when diplomatic relations with two countries are at stake and so is the life of the students. Lucius Malfoy and the minister were very happy to agree with this agreement," said Amelia.
"Well it sounds reasonable enough," said Harry. "But Dumbledore will not enter Hogwarts. He will at most given access to Hogwarts grounds where the Triwizard tournament is to be held."
Amelia nodded.
"How were you removed from the position of DMLE head? It would not have been easy for the minister," asked Harry.
Amelia chuckled, "That buffoon of a minister would not have the guts to sack me in 100 lives."
"He actually wanted to reward me. He very politely asked me to temporarily set aside my role as DMLE head and take an even greater role."
Harry looked curiously and Amelia continued, "He wanted to nominate as a special overseer just like Dolores Umbridge."
"My role would have been to investigate these attacks," said Amelia.
"This does not sound that bad," commented Harry.
"Yes," agreed Amelia. "But this was not all of it."
"The minister felt worried that officials of ministry might be involved in this. And so, I must work undercover. Remain hidden," said Amelia.
"He wanted me to be a lone wolf doing fruitless investigation without any powers and support from ministry. The minister was so pained to appoint Lucius in my place as DMLE head."
Harry chuckled, "So are you undercover?"
Amelia smirked, "Well before leaving his office I fired three stinging hexes at the minister."
"It could be considered my resignation," laughed Amelia.
Amelia turned serious, "Harry, I am sure that Dumbledore and Lucius are working in cohorts this time."
Harry also agreed. All signs pointed to this.
Amelia continued, "But I don't understand, what Dumbledore achieves from this?"
"All this facade to just get himself access to Hogwarts while Lucius gets unbridled power in return."
"Something does not add up. Dumbledore's schemes run deep," added Amelia.
"You faced two massive attacks. Firstly, the attack on the Hogsmeade and then this political scheming by Dumbledore."
Harry kept quiet hearing this. He could not help and his mind wandered towards what Luna had said the previous night. She warned about two big nargles coming in his direction and her words turned out to be true.
Amelia was serious, "These two simultaneous attacks by death eaters cannot be a coincidence. Neither can they be work of fringe elements every time."
"I feel Dumbledore knows something. Lucius Malfoy knows something. You know something."
She stared directly into his eyes, "Tell me. Is it about the dark lord?"
