Capítulo 61: Thoughts of Vezofina

Third-Person POV

Rhaenys who is still atop the saddle of Meleys who is landed near the cliff of Dragonstone where Cannibal was killed is looking upward where Caraxes is still celebrating his victory. Rhaenys even knowing the nature of the Blood Wyrm and his rider couldn't help but shake her head in disapproval as Caraxes even in this state is prideful and arrogant. Rather than coming down and being treated by Lord Drakonar both rider and his Dragon are showing their arrogance and pride at the victory not even fully their own. But there is nothing that she can do about it so she looks toward the foe that needs both Daemon and her combined effort to take down. But only to find out that the dead body of Cannibal drifted to the shore rather than sinking in the depths of the sea as it should have been.

While looking at the Cannibal's dead body on the shore, Rhaenys shifted her gaze toward a clock figure with silver hair, looking at the corpse of the Cannibal from the nearby cliff with a stick in his hand. That was enough to clear Rhaenys's confusion about how the corpse of the Dragon came out on shore. Rhaenys squinted her eyes to look at the stick that the betrothed of her daughter was holding and she couldn't help but be curious and confused about the stick which angered the Cannibal more than he already was. She doesn't know if Lord Drakonar saw her looking at him when he was twirling the stick and instantly Cannibal became furious and looked toward them. However, after looking closely, Rhaenys found out that Daeranyx was at the end of Cannibal's furious gaze.

She had heard from her husband that sorcerers of Asshai wield long staffs crafted from various types of wood to channel their magic. However, she believed that Lord Drakonar's magic was unlike theirs and that he didn't require such tools to perform his spells. Her husband was often taken aback by the boy's ability to demonstrate one astonishing feat after another, shattering their previous notions of what was possible. In the end, she set those thoughts aside, planning to ask Lord Drakonar later. Their family's relationship with him had evolved to a point where they could share some things that weren't strictly family secrets.

With that thought lingering, she prepared to command Meleys to take to the sky and bring Caraxes and his rider back to solid ground. But looking at Caraxes, who was already landing beside the corpse of Cannibal, she commanded Meleys to take to the sky and land beside the Blood Wyrm.

Although Daemon couldn't deny that he felt a sense of happiness and pride akin to that of Caraxes, he found it difficult to fully relish their victory. He was acutely aware that without the assistance of Meleys and Rhaenys, both he and Caraxes might have faced swift defeat from the Cannibal. Deep down, Daemon grappled with a mix of frustration and fear that he preferred to keep hidden. The thought nagged at him: if he and Caraxes struggled against a single foe, how could they possibly confront the three monstrous dragons that roamed the skies of Volantis? whom will be more powerful than the Cannibal. The enormity of that challenge weighed heavily on him, leaving him unsettled and questioning their readiness for what lay ahead.

Once Caraxes landed, his legs gave out due to injuries that he had sustained on the fight taking its toll on Caraxes. Daemon immediately unstrapped all the belts that held him on the saddle and got down on land. His dragon, even in his current state, positioned his wing for his rider as he made his way to the ground. Without looking at Caraxes's wounds, Daemon called out for the only person with the power to heal Caraxes, "Lord Drakonar!"

The man in question is looking at the corpse of the wild Dragon they have killed with a thoughtful expression as if he is in some deep thought. Upon hearing Daemon's voice calling out to him, he turns his back to look toward Daemon. Immediately his gaze landed on Caraxes who was bleeding heavily beside Daemon. Daeranyx grumbled as he had already sent the message to Vezofina that he needed her assistance here through their mutual bond. But it seems his Phoenix is busy or she is on her way here. The condition of Caraxes is no state of waiting for Vezofina so the only thing he can do here is use some healing spell and the phoenix tears he has with him and hope for better.

As Daeranyx approached Daemon, he retrieved two phoenix tears from his enchanted pouch. He looks at Daemon, who is observing Caraxes' injuries and praising him for his performance in the battle. During his brief walk, Rhaenys also arrived on Meleys's back. Daeranyx's gaze shifted to Rhaenys' mount to examine her for injuries but aside from some scratches and minor burns from her flame standoff with the Cannibal, there were not any significant injuries on her body. Rhaenys dismounted from her saddle and began to walk toward us just as he had reached Caraxes, who was emitting painful growls.

Just as Daeranyx was about to pour Phoenix tears into the open maw of Caraxes, a loud and familiar trill echoed around them. A beautiful bird, larger than any normal kin of it, with multi-colored feathers, soared toward them. Daeranyx's previously emotionless face flashed with irritation at the sound of Vezofina's trill.

Daemon's reaction was completely different from Daeranyx's. He felt happiness and sighed in relief after seeing the bird because Lord Drakonar told him earlier that Vezofina had the ability to heal even dragons from any injuries, whether fatal or minor. It seemed that Lord Drakonar had either summoned Vezofina by his magic or that she had arrived before they reached the island. Daemon was certain he had not seen her come with them. Nonetheless, Vezofina's presence was greatly appreciated, as he did not want to witness his ferocious mount, the Blood Wyrm, in its current state.

Rhaenys looked toward the bird named Vezofina, who, if Viserys was to be believed, possessed the ability to heal with her blue flames. There was no reason for her to doubt Viserys, as she had personally experienced her muscles relaxing and the pain she never knew she had disappeared after Vezofina, the bird of Lord Drakonar, sang her song multiple times. She was also curious to know if Vezofina could heal dragons with fire. The irony of dragons, creatures said to be "fire made flesh," being healed by flames was not lost on her. So, when the magnificent, giant bird landed nearby, she eagerly awaited to see how quickly her flames could heal Caraxes, Daemon's grievously injured dragon.

Vezofina landed with the grace expected of a bird like her. She did not look at her master and creator, as she could feel his gaze boring into her with irritation and annoyance. Although she acknowledged that she was a bit late, that did not give him the right to treat "the beautiful lady" like this. She huffed, or perhaps trilled, in response to him and focused on the reason she had been called here. Examining the wounds of the creature before her, she willed her healing flames into existence around it. Her blue healing flames erupted, but the creature's magic began to resist her healing efforts.

She poured more of her magic into her flames, and the wounds on the body of the red creature began to close slowly. She couldn't help but grumble about how much magic and time it took to heal these beings, which her creator called 'Dragons.' However, she had doubts about whether this creature was truly a dragon. To her, it appeared more like a mix of a snake and a flying lizard than anything else.

As if Caraxes had read her thoughts, it let out a low, threatening growl, believing it would scare her, the magnificent Vezofina. She was curious to see how this red-flying serpent would heal itself without her assistance, but she refrained from doing so, knowing it would only draw her master's ire. It seemed he still had not forgiven her. Her gaze shifted to the silver-gold-haired monkeys beside her creator, who was watching her flames with awe. She puffed out her chest, pleased to see that these two monkeys, like many others, recognized that she and her powers were worthy of admiration and reverence.

Daemon and Rhaenys, oblivious to the thoughts of the bird they believe to be as unintelligent as their dragon, couldn't help but gaze in awe and fascination at the flames. Right before their eyes, the black burn scales of Caraxes seemed to transform back into his original blood-red color, and the small wounds on his body healed at a rapid pace.

In less than half an hour, Caraxes had fully recovered, as if he had never fought a dragon much larger than himself just hours earlier. The first thing Caraxes did upon standing on his hind legs was to snap his jaws around the insufferable bird in front of him. However, Vezofina managed to evade Caraxes's bite and fled toward the back of Daeranyx with a trill of accusation. Upon sensing Daeranyx's angry gaze, memories of his past encounters with him flooded Caraxes's mind, prompting him to turn and huff out hot air from his nostrils.

No one will ever know that the reason the ferocious Blood Wyrm spared Vezofina was his way of repaying her for healing him back to full health. Or It was the gaze of Daeranyx and the growl of Anarion that Caraxes heard when he considered going after Vezofina again.

"Prince Daemon, I believe that since I have brought the corpse of Cannibal from sinking into the sea, where it was going to waste, it is mine to do with as I please?" Daeranyx asked Daemon with an edge on his tone.

A wave of anger and defiance flashed across Daemon's face, but he quickly regained his composure. Although it might appear to those unfamiliar with the nobility that Daeranyx was seeking Daemon's permission, Daemon understood the reality of the situation. Drakonar was not asking; he was informing Daemon that he would claim the Cannibal's corpse. And due to the debt Daemon owed Drakonar for healing Caraxes, there was nothing he could do about it. Daemon was determined to have something to show for his victory in the snake pit his brother called 'his court.' "I'll take its head," Daemon declared, "You can have the rest."

After hearing Daemon, Daeranyx frowned but, after a moment, he replied, "I don't have an issue with that, as long as you let me keep its eyes." Daemon nodded, looking at him strangely. Then he prepared to leave with his mount, while Daeranyx began to loot the corpse for anything that could be useful to him.

Rhaenys sees Daeranyx dissecting the corpse of Cannibal with a stick. She observes the delighted expression on his face when he successfully salvages any of the Dragon's organs without any damage. As soon as she realizes this, she decides it is best for her to leave. Rhaenys is also exhausted and will be taking some rest for some time.

With Meleys also leaving the shore, only the corpse of Dragon with black blood splattered around it and the man with a delighted expression on his face remained on the shore. If anyone accidentally stumbles upon this shore at this time, they would be sure to have nightmares after watching what is happening here.
