Capítulo 1: The Allure
The noon sun beat down on the open field, casting harsh shadows from the sparse trees that dotted the landscape. Jiraiya looked at Naruto, a note of encouragement in his tone.
"All right, we're going to step up our training much more. It will be like an experiment," he said.
"I don't even know what might happen. Are you prepared?" Jiraiya added, his eyes studying his student carefully.
"Let's just do it! Believe it!" Naruto replied, clenching his fist and thrusting it forward. Despite his outward bravado, a flicker of uncertainty crossed his features.
Jiraiya nodded approvingly, liking Naruto's determination. The sunlight caught the grey streaks in his wild mane of hair as he shifted his stance.
"Good," he said. Then he raised his hands, performing the summoning technique. "Come on out, Gerotora!"
Jiraiya's throat suddenly bulged, stretching in an unnatural way as a large figure pushed forward from within. Naruto watched without flinching, having grown accustomed to his master's toad-summoning techniques.
A long, lean toad with dark green skin slipped out of Jiraiya's mouth, hovering in mid-air with its arms crossed. This was Gerotora—the toad entrusted with the key to Naruto's seal. His body was lanky and slender, casting a moving shadow across the sun-baked earth as he floated, fixing them with a calm but intense gaze.
...
Gerotora rarely appeared. Floating steadily in front of them, his deep voice filled the air, tinged with knowing resignation.
"I have a bad feeling about this. Anytime you summon me that means you..."
"That's right. I want you to loosen the Nine Tails' seal just a little," Jiraiya confirmed, his tone even and unwavering.
"Well, let me just start off by saying this, I am opposed to this. The Nine Tails cannot be controlled by mere humans," Gerotora said, his body shifting between patches of sunlight and tree-cast shadows.
"That's why I have taken the time to make sure. With all the training he has put in, I know that Naruto can maintain his own psyche up to a two-tails transformation," Jiraiya said. "We need to know how much farther is possible."
Floating with arms crossed, Gerotora turned his sharp gaze to Naruto, sizing him up.
...
"Can you handle it, kid? Opening the seal means the Nine Tails' influence will grow stronger. Can you say for certain that he won't take you over and run amok?"
Naruto's gaze dropped to the ground, memories of past struggles with the Nine Tails' influence flickering through his mind. His blue eyes clouded with uncertainty as he lowered his head. "Well, I..."
Seeing Naruto's hesitation, Jiraiya gave a big, hearty laugh to lift his spirits. With a dramatic gesture, he puffed out his chest and pointed his thumb at himself.
"Well, if worst comes to worst, I, Jiraiya, one of the legendary Sannin, will stop you—even if it kills me!"
"Pervy Sage..." Naruto's voice wavered, touched by his master's unwavering faith. The weight of Jiraiya's words settled heavily in his chest, mixing gratitude with an unexplained sense of dread.
"Besides, I have faith that Naruto will master this jutsu, as did the Fourth Hokage who sealed the Nine Tails in Naruto," Jiraiya added, his conviction evident in every word.
...
"Yeah!" Bolstered by Jiraiya's confidence, Naruto took a steadying breath. He pulled his shirt up to reveal his stomach, where the seal lay hidden. Gerotora floated closer, tipping his body forward so his legs pointed upward while his head inclined near Naruto's belly.
When Gerotora reached out to touch Naruto's stomach, the young ninja felt a cool ripple across his skin as the seal's intricate markings began to emerge, dark lines spreading out from his navel in a familiar pattern.
"Alright then, let's begin," Gerotora said.
"Right," said Naruto, his voice firm with renewed determination.
As Gerotora's touch activated the seal, red chakra began seeping out from Naruto's body. The energy swirled around him, forming a transparent cloak that shimmered in the harsh sunlight. One tail emerged, then quickly another, but Naruto's blue eyes remained clear and focused.
...
"Two tails in an instant..." Gerotora exclaimed, his calm demeanor giving way to surprise. His eyes widened further as the chakra continued to build. "Hey, there's the third tail!!"
"Good, you're maintaining control, now Naruto! Suppress your chakra now!" Jiraiya observed, his stance ready but relaxed as he watched his student carefully.
"Suppress it now!" Jiraiya called out again, more urgently this time.
"I got it," Naruto growled through clenched teeth as a fourth tail began to materialize. His body hunched forward, taking on a more feral posture.
What is this irritating feeling? he thought, squeezing his eyes shut as he crouched like a fox. It's bitter and hateful... It feels like my insides are turning black.
...
Suddenly, in the depths of his consciousness, the Nine Tails' voice resonated.
I will cooperate with you.
