ARTHUR WATTS POV
It seems like the day he would die has finally come.
He knelt in front of Queen Salem, his head bowed low as he prepared for his punishment.
He had thought that he would get one last chance of redeeming himself but apparently, that was not the case as he had woken and found himself surrounded by a dozen Alpha Beowolves.
At that point, even if he wanted to run, he would've failed.
"I sent Hazel and Tyrian to aid you in your quest Arthur. How is it, that you lost both of them in such a short time span?"
She asked the question in the same way one would enquire about the weather. As if she didn't care one bit about her subordinates.
But he knew that she cared for her subordinates because of how useful they were for her.
And in a mere few months, she had lost almost all of her subordinates.
The last two because of his blunder.
She was no doubt quite angry about this whole thing.
"I… sent them to intercept the deal with the group named Night Walkers and Councilwoman Rosa Fisher." He said "I… underestimated just how dangerous that group would be. Hazel and Tyrian paid for my mistake."
He hadn't wanted to admit his failures to her but he knew that he wouldn't able to fool an old sorcerer like her so he decided to go with Honesty, hoping that she would be in a good mood, and decided to spare him.
She did something and suddenly the ground under him turned to pitch black. A few Grimm claws came out of it and wrapped around his hands and legs, pinning him to the floor.
His stomach dropped as he wondered if he should have taken his chances against those Alpha Beowolves.
He would have no doubt died against them but would have at least killed him quickly.
He had a niggling feeling in his mind that Salem might torture him a bit before offing him.
Which would suck… because he didn't want to be tortured or killed.
"What can you tell me about these… Night Walkers?" she asked.
"There's a scroll in my left pocket." He said, his voice strained as the miasma from the Grimm soup entered his lungs with every breath. It made him feel light-headed and a little woozy. "It has all the information I've managed to gather on them."
Because he knew that she would ask him about that blasted group.
A grimm claw came out of the Miasma and entered his left pocket. It took out the scroll and threw it at Salem who levitated the scroll to her hand and started flipping through it.
Honestly, when he first arrived in this location and saw how spartan and medieval the whole castle was, he had doubts that she even knew how to use a Scroll.
But… she did. And he had no doubt that she even knew how to fly bullhead or use a computer.
She scrolled through the files he had gathered on Night Walkers and he knelt in silence, being slowly suffocated by the fumes rising from the black miasma.
"The Relic of Knowledge has been taken by these Night Walkers." She finally spoke and… what?
"The Relic of Knowledge. Wasn't it located under the Haven Academy?" He asked though it was a rhetorical question as he already knew that it was indeed located in a vault under that Academy. But… "I thought that Headmaster Lionheart was loyal to you, your grace."
Salem didn't say anything but he had a feeling that she wanted to scoff at that.
Lionheart was only loyal to them because he feared Salem. And with all their recent failures… he could see why Lionheart would betray her.
"He was. And he is." Salem replied "The Relic was stolen from under his nose, by the Night Walkers."
Oh… oh!
The fact that the Night Walkers managed to take that Relic meant that they not only have a Relic in their possession. But they also have a Maiden amongst them.
Explained why they were so powerful.
"Do you know why I've called by back Arthur?"
"I wouldn't presume to know your thoughts, your grace."
"I have a new task for you." She said "You will go back to Vale and you'll find out everything you can about this group. Is that understood?"
"Yes, your grace." He said. He decided to keep quiet on the fact that he had been trying to search for them for a while now and had not found anything.
The claws pinning him to the ground retreated back into the black miasma and it vanished with a flick of a hand.
"Do not fail me again Arthur." She said and he quickly nodded.
"Do not think to run either. You'll not succeed." She said and he felt his heart grow cold.
Because of course, she would know about his plans to ditch the train.
"I'll not fail you, your grace."
She nodded and made a 'shoo' gesture and he let out a breath of sigh before he quickly left the throne room.
Happy that he had survived this round but knowing well enough that he was still not out of danger.
He had no way of finding the Night Walkers and he couldn't run because she knew about it and has probably put some measures in place to find him in case he tries something like that.
He was fucked, wasn't he?
Why did he think that joining her was a good idea?
