Anua was sitting in the waiting room, in the corridor of Clareland’s Hospital. Her back was curved and she positioned the hands over the lap, with fingers crossed.
Right at her side, the big Hugh Merton also sat. The silence had gone for over ten minutes now.
Merton was the one to break the silence:
“Don’t stay too worried, lady. The boy is a strong one. He’s going to get better.”
“I… It’s just… Every time we worked together Kai has always recovered so quickly. Getting yourself knocked out unconscious never meant much because we were always there for each other. We would just wait for an hour or two and it would always turn out ok in the end. I never had to wait that much…”
“Two days… Is a pretty short time.”
Anua gulped. She didn’t seem very convinced.
Merton added:
“I tell you: you two are biting more than you can chew. Kai was lucky to hit the bastard’s temple first try. When I pulled it in the air I was just trying to save him from certain death.”
