7.4% I'm Lara Croft? / Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Capítulo 1: Chapter 1

In a luxurious room in Croft Manor, an eleven-year-old girl with brown eyes and hair woke up groggily in a bed made of the finest materials. "What happened?" she asked herself as she looked around. "Wasn't I just trying to get a 100% completion in all the Tomb Raider games?"

At that moment, the door to the room opened, and an old butler entered with a plate of tea and an English breakfast. Seeing that Lara had awakened, he quickly put down the plate and asked, "Are you okay, young lady? How do you feel?"

Lara, who felt like she had a migraine, asked, "Who am I, and who are you?"

Hearing these questions, the old butler felt a painful sting in his heart. His young lady had suffered a great deal: in the past, she lost her mother in an airplane crash. Just yesterday, she witnessed the aftermath of her father's "suicide." The authorities called it suicide, but the old butler was neither foolish nor as young as Lara; he knew it was an assassination. He had no proof, though, and no support. Lara's relatives were like hungry wolves wanting to devour the Croft estate, and that witch Ana was surely involved.

"Young lady, you are Lara Croft," Winston said gently. "You are the daughter of Richard and Amelia Croft, the future Countess of Abbingdon. And I am Winston Jeeves, your butler."

As Lara's head began to clear, she could only exclaim, "What the fuck!" before jumping off the bed. She tried to find the bathroom, relying on Lara's fragmented memories, and upon finding it, she looked in the mirror to see a cute young girl staring back at her.

"WHAT! THE! HELL!" she shouted.

The old butler, Winston, wanted to ask her not to use foul language, but decided against it. After all, seeing one's father's assassination aftermath was traumatic, and she was only eleven.

Turning back to Winston, Lara asked, "Winston, what year is it?"

"It's the summer of 1980, young lady," he answered.

Some time later, Lara was eating her breakfast and sipping her tea, lost in thought. 'Did I get reincarnated as Lara Croft? Or did my soul merge with hers? Or was I always her, and my past life memories just awakened? Also, how did I die?'

After thinking hard, she remembered: she had a glass of water next to her PC, knocked it over, spilled it on the PC, and got electrocuted.

'What are the chances of getting electrocuted by a PC and dying?' she thought, annoyed. 'Anyway, now I'm Lara Croft—the demolition queen, ancient ruins destroyer, island-slaughtering monster, and dual-wielding pickaxe berserker. Though maybe not yet, since I'm only eleven years old.'

As she watched Winston clean the table, Lara mused, 'And this is a universe that seems like a combination. I am born in 1969 like in the original timeline and there is Richard, Amelia and Ana from the Survivor timeline.'

"Winston, I want you to be my legal guardian and manage my assets until I'm old enough," Lara said firmly.

Hearing this, Winston asked, "Are you sure, young lady? Do you not want Ana to be your legal guardian?"

Lara responded, "I'm sure. I trust you more than her. There's something off about that wretch."

Hearing this, Winston sighed in relief, grateful that Lara also sensed something was wrong with Ana and did not fully trust her. "I can try to arrange that, but I'll need to contact some old friends from my earlier days," he said.

Lara's tone was serious. "Please," she insisted.

"Alright, young lady," said Winston, taking the empty plates to the kitchen.

Lara thought of suggesting they hire some maids to help, but she remembered they didn't have any. Her father, Richard, had only trusted Winston and did not want to risk infiltration by enemies posing as staff. Lara also did not want to hire maids now, because her relatives—and Trinity—could try to plant spies. There was a small chance Trinity would bother, given that Ana was already there to keep tabs on her.

Ana was part of the Order of Trinity, commonly known as Trinity, a religious military order of fanatics who sought to control humanity's fate through ancient artifacts. They were also responsible for her father's assassination. Richard had been close to revealing Paititi and Trinity's existence to the world and Dominguez decided to kill him.

After eating, Lara wandered through the manor, looking at the artifacts her father had stored. Entering his office—now spotless, with no sign of the body—she noticed an old newspaper on the desk. The word "captain" caught her eye. Reading it, she found two words that terrified her: "Captain America."

Lara started hyperventilating before running off to find Winston. She found him on the phone and interrupted, "Winston, do you know about Howard Stark?"

"Yes, young lady," Winston replied calmly. "He's one of my old friends, the CEO of Stark Industries. He also has a ten-year-old boy named Tony. Maybe you could become friends."

Hearing this, Lara bolted from the manor into the garden. "NOOOOOOOOO!" she screamed, dropping to her knees and shouting at the sky.

After her outburst, she prayed silently, 'Please be the movie universe, please be the MCU, please, please.'

Seeing Winston approach, she asked, "Winston, do you know about the mutants?"

"Yes, young lady," he replied. "I know of them—humans with superpowers led by Charles Xavier and Magneto."

"NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Lara screamed again for several seconds before collapsing. Winston hurried over to help her up.

'Now there's also a mind reader in the equation,' Lara lamented.

Capítulo 2: Chapter 2

A few weeks later, Ana was on the phone, and the voice on the other end asked, "Did you get custody of Lara?"

Ana gritted her teeth. "No, that old fox Winston managed it, along with control over all her assets."

"How could that happen?" the other person asked, clearly surprised.

"I'm surprised too," Ana admitted. "I tried bribing and threatening the court to give me custody, since it seemed they were going to give it to Winston, but they didn't budge. When I sent some guys to kill some targets from the court to send a message, they never reported back. The targets are still alive and kicking, so my men must have been killed."

She paused before continuing, "Also, that old fox poisoned Lara against me, telling her I'm a gold digger after the Croft wealth. That little brat believed him. Now she treats me coldly, won't talk to me, and even accuses me of making her father's mental state worse so that he'd kill himself for my gain." After she finished talking, she slammed her foot in the desk out of anger but accidentally hit her small toe. "Ouch!"

"What happened, Ana?" the voice asked.

"Nothing!" Ana replied, embarrassed.

As for Lara being poisoned by Winston to hate Ana, it was orchestrated by Lara so that Ana would not suspect that Lara knew she was from Trinity and would simply believe that Lara hated her because she thought Ana was a gold digger.

Back at Croft Manor, Lara was alone in the garden, practicing her bow skills. A few days after waking up, she had asked Winston to hire private coaches to train her in hand-to-hand combat, archery, marksmanship, gymnastics, and stealth. Knowing the dangers of this world, Winston agreed immediately.

"Swish!"

"Swish!"

Lara loosed two arrows in quick succession, both landing close to the center of the target. 'Lucky this body is extremely talented,' she thought. Most of her coaches called her extraordinarily gifted. After learning she was training in multiple disciplines simultaneously and seeing how quickly she progressed, they labeled her a once-in-a-thousand-years genius.

Lara herself believed her body was more like the classic Lara Croft's than the survivor version. She was grateful for that because the survivor Lara was more realistically human in her abilities, while classic Lara was almost superhuman in every aspect. The classic Lara defeated not only trained humans and humanoids but also prehistoric creatures and mythological beings. She seemed to have strength measured in tons, able to move massive stones and boulders, and she displayed incredible durability, having survived blows from a monster stronger than a T-Rex and a sea serpent. Her speed was also superhuman, allowing her to outrun bears and velociraptors and even react to and dodge gunfire at supersonic speeds.

So, Lara was happy that her current body had such high potential—even before any enhancement by serums like Captain America's or other superhuman influences.

After finishing her training, Lara washed up before dinner. As they sat down, she watched Winston preparing the meal and asked, "Winston, can't you find some maids through your old contacts to help you?"

Winston responded, "I could, young lady, but I can manage the manor by myself."

"But you can't protect every part of the manor on your own," Lara countered. "What if someone tries to kidnap me?"

Winston paused for a moment before admitting, "You're right, young lady. I'll try to find some help in the coming days, but they might be costly."

"I know," said Lara. She had a strong feeling that any maids Winston hired wouldn't be ordinary staff. That was exactly what she wanted. Given his connection to Howard Stark, one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s founders, Lara guessed Winston also had connections to the agency.

"Also, did you set up Croft Holdings?" Lara asked. After discovering there was no such entity, she decided to create it. It would give her more money and connections in the future—allowing her to acquire things like adamantium or vibranium more easily if she became the head of a large holding company.

"Yes, my lady," said Winston. "And I am monitoring British Telecom, as you suggested. I've heard there's a chance it may be privatized. Rolls-Royce got a government bailout and is losing profitability, just as you said. Right now, Croft Holdings is buying as many shares as possible."

"If you need extra money, you can sell some of the artifacts," said Lara.

"Are you sure, young lady?" Winston asked, surprised.

"I'm sure, Winston. Also, keep an eye on tech start-ups like those run by Bill Gates and Steve Jobs and buy as many shares as possible. And look for some guys named Larry Page and Sergey Brin to see if they can create a company under Croft Holdings," said Lara.

Winston felt a bit suspicious about how Lara knew all this, but he respected her privacy. Everyone had their secrets, and he did not want to pry. "Alright, young lady," he replied.

Lara smiled. "Winston, I feel you're more like a robot with how many things you can juggle at once."

"Also, young lady, you need to return to school," said Winston.

Hearing this, the color drained from Lara's face, and her chin hit the table. "Wimbledon High School for Girls," she said in a tone as if she had just tasted a lemon.

Winston sighed. "I know you're averse to it, young lady, but you need to finish your education."

"I know, Winston," said Lara.
