History always keeps moving forward, and anything that tries to stop it just gets run over along, unless you're the one driving it forward.
The world doesn't stop for anyone. Even if you're the main character in your own story, everyone is the main character in their own life.
At Everwinter Hill, in front of Orion's tomb.
"Lord Cocolia, you've been here for almost three hours. The sun is setting."
The setting sun shines on a girl with short hair standing next to Cocolia. Since the stellaron was sealed, the weather at Everwinter Hill has improved a lot. Even without cold-proof clothes, they can stay here for a while.
"The sun has already set, Pela," Cocolia says, looking sad as she stands in front of Orion's simple tomb.
Orion's tomb is a flat marble platform with a tombstone that reads:
"Here lies the hero Orion Astra. He lived freely, as free as the mountain wind."
"You sound like a poet now," Pela says, looking at Cocolia. Time hasn't left many marks on Cocolia's face, but her expression has changed from when she was younger.
It has been seven years since Orion's death. Belobog is doing well now, but the chaos caused by the stellaron left a big mess.
When people found out that the stelleron had been hidden by past guardians, they were upset. The biggest shock was:
"Orion Astra is really dead? The unbeatable hero died just like that!"
Many people who knew Orion wanted Cocolia to explain why he had to die, or they wouldn't leave.
Protesters stayed in front of Qlipoth Fort for a long time, just like they did when Orion made his promises.
Even some of the Silvermane Guard, who were supposed to keep order, joined the protests because it was hard to reject a commander who had once saved their lives.
One night at Qlipoth Fort, a soldier on guard was feeling very sleepy. A gentle voice said:
"Soldier, go rest. I'll take over for a while."
The soldier thought it was a colleague and went to rest. The next day, he was scolded by his superior:
"Do you know who covered for you? Commander Orion came back from battle and had to cover because of you! How could you let him do that? I'd rather do it myself!"
The soldier never felt sleepy again during his shifts. He wanted to thank Orion for covering him, especially since he was dealing with his father's death at home. Orion reminded him of his father. Sadly, he never got to say "thank you."
The soldiers defending the frontlines couldn't believe Orion was gone. He had won their trust with his strength and kindness. They didn't believe that the Supreme Guardian's orders could be true.
There was even talk in the army that "the Supreme Guardian is lying to the people, and the soldiers might rebel."
But when Geppard came back from Qlipoth Fort, the Silvermane Guard regained some calm. Cocolia and Geppard's talks helped pass on Orion's spirit to the soldiers.
Geppard became the new leader of the Silvermane Guard. Serval and a group of researchers provided reports and explanations about the stellaron and Orion's death, but people didn't want to believe them.
Rumors spread that "Chief Cocolia wants to take control for herself," and many people believed it.
Cocolia had done a lot of good during Orion's time. She had helped make policies that benefited Belobog's people and helped resolve conflicts. Her feelings for Orion were well known, so people doubted she would harm him.
During Orion's campaigns, Cocolia had worked hard to help Belobog. She had even been in the hospital after losing control of her emotions. There was no evidence of her doing anything wrong.
Orion's death led to mourning across Belobog. People remembered his selflessness, humor, and kindness, and they all felt a deep connection to him, even if they had never met him personally.
Below the Everwinter Monument, there's a row of memorials for the victims. Each name is engraved, and at the top, it says:
"Whether you knew him or not, you should know there was a hero who gave his life to bring lasting peace to Belobog. There have been heroes like him before; there are now, and there will be in the future."
"The people don't need heroes to save them. The people need to save themselves. So, don't mourn me when I leave. - Orion Astra."
Winter turns to spring, and Belobog welcomes a new season. As spring arrives, a special train, the Astral Express, comes to this planet, quietly setting the stage for the future.
