Capítulo 18: Chapter 18

"Going somewhere, Aurora?" A masculine voice called from behind making Aurora freeze on the spot. She wished the ground would open so she would go underneath. She turned slowly in apprehension, beads of sweat had started trailing down her face.

"Uncle"

Aurora puffed up as she let out an uneasy chuckle. He was wearing a hat but she could see his facials. His gray long hair was resting on his shoulder blades. The hat was shading his eyes but it revealed a hard face and roman nose.

Uncle Marshall.

She had two uncles. Her late dad and Marshall were twins. While her dad did not get any power, Marshal was blessed with one. By rights, Uncle Marshall would have been the one to take over as Chief. Since he won the challenge every aspirant were to do. But unfortunately it was passed to the second following the winner because he broke the law. He impregnated a woman. Men aspiring to be chiefs were allowed to have sex with whomever they pleased, but they weren't allowed to bear children. Uncle Marshall willingly let go of his position out of love.

He was her favorite uncle.

"No one told me you were back on your feet, why are you alone?" His voice deepened a bit as he asked that.

"There was a commotion and I heard there was a wolf on the steering commotion with the numerous killing, I couldn't stay back in."

"Shit!" he hissed angrily. "Your uncle is a shithead, he never listens. I told him bringing a wolf to our quarters was a bad idea. Now look at the damage his carelessness has caused." he stops moving when he notices Aurora wasn't following him from behind.

"I can't follow you" Aurora mumbled loud enough for him to hear.

"Why not. I hate to admit it, even though your uncle is an asshole, he cares about you a lot. He loves you and cherishes you so much. You'd be much safer with him"

Aurora snickered at that earning a frown from him 'cherish? loved? That was one wrong way to put it. He cherished what she could do? Yes. loved? Not so much.

"That's why I can't be with him, Uncle. I don't want him to ever know I'm not the way I was anymore. I don't want the same fate that he gave to my brother."

Marshall paused as he tried to make sense of what she just said. When realization hit him he let out an 'oh'

"He doesn't know?" he raised a question and Aurora could only fathom a nod.

"Does anyone know at all?"

"My maid knows, My brother knows. He insisted I keep it secret. Please don't tell him." Aurora begged.

Someone scuttles past them hurriedly, holding an injured man in support as he does so. Aurora peered her eyes at him. He looked somewhat familiar.

He wasn't injured, he was just unconscious. Even with eyes closed he still had that Tyrant face on.

It was Mario. Aurora watched as he slowly dispersed away from where she stood.

'What could have possibly put him in that state?' she wondered

"You know," her uncle started, making her focus her gaze back on him. "You know he's going to find out soon, right?" Aurora doesn't respond. She was starting to contemplate if coming out clean to him was a good idea. "What do you want to do now?" he inquired. Aurora thought of the question. She had no answer of her own. All that she felt she needed was to get away from here, from all this mess.

As if reading what she wants, her uncle answered. "Very well then, you're free to do as you pleased I'll pretend I didn't see you tonight. I'll pretend to neglect my duties tonight. If you promise to do me a favor in return."

"Name it"

"If you leave tonight, don't come back. Don't come back to this mess. Start a life, have a family. Do what you will… But don't come back here no matter what happens."

Aurora was perplexed. Okay may be he hadn't read her mind like she had thought. She wasn't planning to run away. Even if she wished she could, but it wasn't what she had in mind to do.

"Uncle," she started

"Do you promise?"

She paused her lips. On a second thought, running away wasn't a bad idea. She was outside her room already. An opportunity like this might not show forth if she neglects this.

Instead of giving him an answer, Aurora moved to the bush and started pulling her bike out from underneath the roots.

She could feel her uncle gaze at her as she pulled it out fully, she climbed on it and gave him a second look.

"I can promise to try and stay away, but I can't promise he won't find and bring me back, and when he finds out I've been hiding this from him, he will hurt me." Without letting him say anything further, she pulled on her helmet. She started the motorbike and zoomed off. Following the path the others had taken to avoid suspicion.

After riding along a straight path for half an hour she comes to a stop when she noticed the motorcycle and van parked in the middle of the road. No one was in it. It was not hard to comprehend they had followed a trail from this angle of the woods.

Aurora slid her helmet back on. All this was no longer a business of hers. She was halfway on the road to a new life. Her life! She couldn't let her curiosities get in the way.

A loud growl ripped out from the woods. Aurora stared at the angle she had heard it from in shock.

That was a wolfcry. She thinks to herself not bothering how she had found that out.

Another growl was heard from the same angle she had heard the first.

She felt goosebumps start to form on her skin.

It was him.

She had promised to not let her curiosities or family get in the way. But he was getting in her way and she couldn't recant herself from subjecting to it.

She pulled the helmet back down that she had attempted to put on.

"Just this once," she mumbles before getting down from her bike. But she knew she was just kidding herself. She couldn't stop herself even if she wanted to.

And she wants to know why.
