The two Runners, one alive and one undead, locked together in brutal gladiatorial combat.

The living Runner was absolutely furious, furious at its own kind turning on it, furious at the injuries it was taking while trying to earn its meal, furious at the humans for not taking it seriously as the threat that it was.

It released its emotion in one maddening roar, striking out against the traitor again and again with its claws in a gray blur of motion.

But no matter what it did, no matter where it struck or what it ripped off, the undead kept on fighting, leaving the both of them with blackened blood dripping down their bodies.

This time around, Morne hadn't had the advantage of surprise on his side when they had encountered this lone Runner. In fact, this mutant had deliberately sought them out after finding the remains of the first mutant his undead had killed, although the humans had no way of knowing that.
