"You… I'm sorry," Ratko murmured, bringing his hand up to pinch the bridge of his nose. "You said you're going to die tonight, my lord?"

If my head didn't throb so, I would've been rather amused by his bemusement. I could always count on the garrison captain to express amusing huffs or grumbles of bewilderment. Even more so that he brought some wet behind the ears soldier who got so turned around by my presence that he curtseyed instead of bowed.

Still, the laugh wasn't worth the sharp pain it elicited in every muscle of my body.

I made quick work with the powder and foul-smelling liquid on the workbench, knowing precisely the measurements and ratios required to create a rather potent numbing agent. The only reason Vitale didn't provide me with a dose earlier was because he wanted me to wallow in the pain that I had willfully chosen to put myself in.
