After returning to his dormitory, David leaned against the headboard and started piecing together the mysteries he had uncovered over the past few days.
"Moloch is in the fourth-floor room," he thought, "likely guarding the Philosopher's Stone. That room must be a test created by Dumbledore for Harry—something to prepare him for facing Voldemort. It's a challenge disguised as training. The Stone is bait, and Voldemort is the real test."
David paused, furrowing his brow. "But who's keeping the troll? Could that shadowy figure I saw in the forest be Voldemort?"
He sighed. The uncertainty gnawed at him. "I need answers. Until I figure this out, the Forbidden Forest is too dangerous to wander alone."
David decided he would talk to Hagrid the next day. Hagrid spent a lot of time in the Forbidden Forest and might have noticed something unusual.
The next morning, David woke up to Harry and Ron chatting by his bed.
"Morning, Ron, Harry," he yawned.
Ron looked at him incredulously. "Morning? David, the sun's already on my bed! What's with you lately? You're sleeping in every day!"
Ron's bed was in the center of the dormitory, where sunlight only reached close to noon.
"Studying too hard, maybe," David mumbled as an excuse. "Anyway, have you two eaten yet? Let's head over to Hagrid's after breakfast."
Harry's face lit up. "Hagrid? I'd love to! What about you, Ron?"
Ron hesitated for a moment. "Fine, but let's hope he doesn't give us those rock cakes again."
As they walked to the common room, they bumped into Hermione, who was carrying a towering stack of books.
"Hey, Hermione," David greeted her. "Want to come with us to see Hagrid?"
Hermione narrowed her eyes at him. "Did you just wake up?"
David nodded sheepishly.
Hermione sighed loudly, turned on her heel, and stormed off toward her dormitory. "Give me a minute. I'll put these books away and join you."
Ron muttered under his breath, "How on earth did you become friends with her, David?"
David shot him a stern look. "Hermione is our friend, Ron. Say that again, and I won't let you borrow my homework anymore."
Ron's eyes widened in alarm. He couldn't imagine struggling late into the night without David's help. "Okay, okay, I'll behave!"
Once Hermione returned, the group had a quick breakfast in the Great Hall before heading to Hagrid's hut.
"Hey, Hagrid! You there?" Harry knocked enthusiastically on the wooden door.
From inside, Hagrid's voice boomed, "Harry, is that you? Just a sec! Fang, calm down. Harry's not here to bother you."
The door creaked open, and Hagrid beamed. "Oh, Harry! And David! Ron, too! Welcome!"
But no sooner had he spoken than a massive black hound lunged out from behind him, barking wildly. Hermione screamed and darted behind David.
"Don't worry!" Hagrid said, grabbing Fang's collar. "Fang's friendly, just excited!"
David glanced at Hermione and reassured her. "It's okay. Fang's harmless. He's just a little... big."
Hermione peeked out cautiously and saw that Fang was more bark than bite. Tentatively, she stepped around him and followed David into the cozy hut.
Hagrid grinned as everyone sat down. "Right, let me get yeh some snacks."
He rummaged in a cupboard and pulled out a jar filled with round, lumpy cakes.
"Rock cakes," Ron whispered to Harry, groaning.
"I just ate," Harry protested quickly. "We all did! Thanks, though!"
"Nonsense!" Hagrid said, pressing the cakes into their hands. "Hermione's never tried one before!"
Hermione picked up a cake and inspected it curiously. She took a small bite but couldn't make a dent in the hard crust. Undeterred, she bit down harder and managed to break off a piece. However, the look on her face betrayed her discomfort.
"Not tasty?" Hagrid asked, concerned.
Hermione forced a smile. "No, no, it's... delicious!"
"Glad yeh like it!" Hagrid beamed.
As Hagrid turned away to make tea, David smirked and pulled out his wand. Whispering an Engorgement Charm, he enlarged his rock cake, making it softer and easier to bite.
He took a big, exaggerated bite, chewing easily, then winked at Hermione.
Hermione rolled her eyes, muttering, "Show-off." But she couldn't resist handing her own cake to David for the same spell.
Harry and Ron followed suit, their faces lighting up as they watched David work his magic.
When Hagrid returned with a tray of oversized teacups, he beamed at the sight of everyone happily eating his rock cakes. "Nice to see yeh enjoyin' 'em!"
As the group sipped tea, they chatted about Hogwarts, classes, and magical creatures.
Then, in a casual tone, David asked, "Hagrid, there must be loads of magical creatures in the Forbidden Forest, right?"
Hermione shot David a sharp look, her eyes narrowing in suspicion. She knew him well enough to sense that he was fishing for information.
Unfazed, David continued sipping his tea, waiting for Hagrid's response.
