Capítulo 7: Chapter Seven: Battle in a Closed Cavern

A glittering book.

It was none other than a skill book. It was very weird to find it hidden beneath a stone barrel inside a mere Goblin Soldier's room.

Skill books aren't rare, but that doesn't mean they pop up in every random room.

"This is for mages too. I am lucky." Finding a skill book that doesn't belong to your class is kind of frustrating, but it isn't all bad considering you can sell it or trade it for something more useful.

[Name]: Simple Barrier

[Type]: Spell Book

[Requirement]: Frost Mage (Level 1 or above)

[Rank]: F

[Chanting Time]: 20 seconds (None)

[Cooldown]: 5 minutes (None)

[Mana Cost]: 10 MP

[Effect]: Creates a barrier that protects caster from physical and elemental attacks. Can take up to 100 damage. Won't disappear unless the barrier is broken or cancelled by the caster.

[Do you wish to learn the spell 'Simple Barrier'?]

"Yes." He clicked on yes, and his body glowed. A new spell appeared on his status screen.

"It's very useful. Now I can easily attack without having to defend myself." Barriers in games are magical because while enemies' attacks won't reach you, your attacks will still hit them.

After learning the spell, Lan Sol left the room and ventured further.

Three turns appeared.

He took the right one, and it led him to a 30-minute, trap-filled journey. In the end, he returned to the entrance through the door beside the one he had entered.

Lan Sol sighed and returned. He knew this path would take him back to the beginning, but he was kind of expecting to find a secret room or chest.

Disappointed again, he returned to the turn and this time took the middle path.

This one led him to a cavern. It was a circular cavern with only one entrance and exit.

As he stepped in, large boulders crashed behind him. The entrance was sealed.

It was pretty clear who had done it.

Boom!

Exploding the walls, hordes of enemies arrived.

"I'm… fucked." Lan Sol cursed as he looked at the horde of enemies.

10 Goblin Soldiers and 25 weak goblins.

The Goblin Soldiers wielded metal swords, while the weak goblins had rusty daggers. He was surrounded.

Well, surrounded by enemies in front of him, at least, since there was no escape backwards, he was essentially trapped.

"What should… I do now? Fight or flee?" he thought, but fleeing was out of the question, yet he still tried to think of a method to escape.

Destroying the boulder was impossible, as he only had an ice attack, which wasn't powerful enough to destroy a boulder.

"Kierrrrr!" A Goblin Soldier screamed and rushed at him.

It didn't require knowledge of the goblin language to know that the Goblin Soldier was screaming, "Attack!"

Lan Sol placed one leg back and had a running stance.

"Run!" He ran towards the Goblin Soldier horde with his metal sword.

Swoosh! Swish!

The Goblin Soldiers swiped their swords, but Lan Sol ducked and escaped.

Another one slashed vertically, but he side-stepped and ran again.

Another swung a sword toward his neck. Doing a somersault, he dodged the attack.

He was behind the whole Goblin Soldier group. His target was clear.

"Krrrr!"

"Kiiiii!"

The weak goblins screamed, terrified and shaking. They charged at him hesitantly, scared by his movement and looks.

Lan Sol had a wide smile.

"Sorry, goblins, but you are my EXP!" With a maniacal look, he rushed toward the horde.

Before reaching them, he activated the Simple Barrier.

A glass-like hemisphere covered him. But it wasn't wide—just 10 cm off his body. It looked like he was glowing due to the small barrier, but it was handy, as large barriers would make it impossible to physically attack, since enemies would collide with the barrier.

But with this short barrier, his sword easily reached the enemies' necks.

Psssss!

Slash!

Swoosh!

"Kirrrrrrrrrr!!!"

"Kireeer!"

Loud shrills filled the room as the sword beheaded the weak goblins.

Dodging their clumsy attacks, he attacked them. He stepped aside and ducked to evade their strikes while stabbing his sword at their vitals.

A single slash took their life. The metal sword was very sharp, unlike the stone sword. The goblin bones were sliced as if they were butter.

Clang!

From time to time, their attacks reached him, but they caused no damage.

[-5 durability]

The barrier had a small crack, but it still had plenty of durability left.

In the span of a minute, half of the goblins were slaughtered.

Half of the barrier's durability was gone too, as he couldn't escape the attacks from so many goblins. He was also human, and his instincts couldn't help him at every turn.

Thankfully, he was very fast, and the goblin soldiers weren't that quick. Before they could reach him, he had already taken a lot of EXP.

Pss!

The goblin head flew.

[Successfully killed the Weak Goblin (LV. 1) Gained 10 EXP!]

[You have leveled up! Current Level: 4]

[Your stats have increased! Strength +2, Agility +2, Spirit +3, Constitution +2]

His speed, strength, health, and mana had increased again.

Swoosh.

His reactions became sharper too. He dodged the Goblin Soldier's attack and stabbed him.

Before another could strike, he grabbed the hilt of the sword and kicked the Goblin Soldier.

The Goblin Soldier flew, rolling on the ground.

He ducked from the next Goblin Soldier's attack and sidestepped while ducking to evade the following one.

Clang!

Another Goblin Soldier's sword was parried, and the next one managed to land a hit on him, but that was what he intended.

[-20 durability]

Ignoring the notification, he cut the Goblin Soldier's legs.

Taking the attack, he managed to disable one Goblin Soldier.

It wasn't time to be careless, so he stood and ran away.

Being surrounded by Goblin Soldiers would spell disaster, so he ran.

He took out the stone spear.

Instead of aiming at the Goblin Soldiers, he attacked the weak goblins.

Puk!

Puk!

Out of ten spears, three of them accurately headshotted the weak goblins.

Five of them pierced non-vital parts, and the remaining ones missed completely.

What do you expect? He wasn't a master of archery.

"Krrrrrr!" Annoyed, the Goblin Soldiers spread their arms in rage.

What could they do though? They were very slow compared to Lan Sol, whose speed had increased.

He could run away from them pretty easily. Who said one had to fight head-on?

With a stash of rusty daggers, he only aimed at the weak goblins.

Since they were slow, couldn't dodge, and had a slow reaction time, they got hit 50% of the time.

Ten minutes passed like this.

All the weak goblins were sent to the afterlife.

The remaining Goblin Soldiers looked very pissed and tired.

Lan Sol was tired too. But he wasn't in bad shape compared to the Goblin Soldiers, who were breathing so intensely, as if their lives depended on it.

It was time!

Lan Sol rushed toward the horde.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

He shot frost balls, which flung five of them away.

The remaining two were too slow now. With one strike, one Goblin Soldier's head flew off.

The next one attacked, but Lan Sol dodged by a hair's breadth and stabbed its neck.

Puk!

Pss!

Blood splattered, and the Goblin Soldier fell. Lan Sol rushed to the fallen Goblin Soldiers whose legs he had cut.

He put the Goblin Soldier out of its misery.

Out of ten, only seven Goblin Soldiers were left.

He rushed to the Goblin Soldiers. All of them had stood up and rushed toward him.

Clang! Clink!

Swords collided with swords and the barrier.

Shatter!

His barrier shattered, but he put up another one instantly. With no casting time or cooldowns, only mana was required.

It was very convenient.

As the Goblin Soldiers had little stamina, he managed to kill three of them with ease.

He ignored the attack and dodged when he felt it.

Shatter!

His third barrier shattered.

But another one instantly rose.

Without the weak goblins, there was no crowd and no attacks coming from all sides. With the tired Goblin Soldiers, their attacks were slow and weak.

His sword moved continuously—swiping, stabbing, and slashing.

Each minute, a Goblin Soldier fell.

As his sixth barrier fell, so did the final Goblin Soldier.

"There should be something good here!" Lan Sol was fed up with not getting a single chest.

So, this cavern should have a chest since it was closed and filled with enemies. Mostly, rooms like this had the highest chances of containing chests!

He checked the broken walls. These were rooms of the goblins. The broken walls couldn't really be called that; they were slabs of stone that stood on hollow walls, which could be used as both doors and covers.

Inside, there was a stone bed with thin fabrics. Nothing different.

He found several stone barrels with mostly junk, which he didn't leave behind. There was no hidden container this time.

After searching the entire room, he didn't find a chest.

He sighed and scanned every part of the room.

"Hmm!" Suddenly, a part of a wall in one of the Goblin Soldier's rooms attracted his attention. It looked a bit out of place.

It was hard to notice.

He knocked on the wall, and it felt hollow!

He punched the wall and broke it down. His strength was now twice that of a normal person, so breaking hollow walls was easy. But breaking a real wall would break his bones, so he wasn't that strong either.

"Finally!" Nearly tears fell from his eyes.

He finally found a wooden chest. It was so out of place among all the stones here, but it was better than nothing.

Fortunately, there weren't any locks. As he opened it, he obtained several items.
