Capítulo 19: Act 3, Chapter 5

When you were able to breathe properly again and had built up enough mental strength to put your fingers back on the edge of the cuff, Abir cleared her throat.

"Chrollo, if it really is you then write my first name on the board with the cuff. It's written-" before she could say or spell her name, the cuff landed on 'A' but stopped there.

Your heart was still beating so hard in your chest that you felt you couldn't understand every word she was speaking.

Cold sweat formed on your forehead before small beads rolled down from it, you wouldn't be able to stand Chrollo's presence much longer.

It was an oppressive, imprisoned feeling to have Chrollo so clearly in the room.

It felt like he was standing right behind you, his fingers over your fingers and breathing down the back of your neck.

Your breathing was shallow and your hands were shaking a little.

You could only hope that after all this Chrollo was really gone when the séance was over.

Abir paused for a moment and when you noticed that you looked at her direction.

A lock of hair that had escaped from her braid floated in the air before jerking back onto her shoulder as you looked at her.

You inhaled sharply and Abir's black eyes rested urgently on you, begging you not to take your fingers off the cuff silently.

The candle flickered a little and Abir turned pale at the sight.

"(Y/N), we're going to say goodbye." she had never spoken to you so sternly before.

It was more of an order than a request when and for a moment you froze.

Where had her nice tone gone?

What was happening?

When you were able to mentally agree that despite everything it was a stressful situation for her as well, you nodded.

"Chrollo" her tone was still stern as she spoke to him "You are not welcome in this house."

When you felt her push the cuff towards 'Goodbye' you just followed her movements.

When she took her fingers off the cuff you did the same and only a second later the board and cuff flew across the room as if he had waited for your hand to stop touching it.

You cried out in shock and clapped your hands over your mouth to stop yourself from screaming.

Your gaze slid from the direction the board had flown to Abir, who was sitting on the far edge of the table.

Your hands were still pressed over your mouth, muffling the scream that was now finally leaving your throat.

Abir's eyes were closed, her whole body was shaking and with her left hand she was scribbling in the notebook that you had from your great-uncle with the pen she had prepared with it next to her.

Some blood started running out of her nose.

You didn't know what to do and in desperation you grabbed her shoulders and shook her.

,,Abir! Abir please wake up!" you almost yelled in her face while shaking her more and more.

Tears welled up in your eyes and fell down your face along with the sweat of fear.

It wasn't until you blinked away a load of tears that you saw it.

A figure was crammed into the corner of the ceiling, only the light from the candle shone enough light on it that its outline could be made out, yet it's upper half merged with the darkness.

Mesmerized, you stared at the figure as it seemed to be floating in mid-air, it's back pressed into the corner and it's hands positioned as if holding itself up there with them.

Caught in your shock, you still shook Abir as if in a trance, saying her name over and over again, but it was only a whisper.

Suddenly a hand grabbed your wrist and you quickly looked at Abir, it was her hand.

She had regained consciousness.

You glanced back at the ceiling, but the figure was gone.

Your face twisted and the tears flowed from your eyes like a river.

Never in your life had you experienced anything like this, wanted to experience it or ever imagined experiencing something like this.

Abir closed the notebook with the pen between the page she had drawn on, the sound startled you.

Abir got up and turned on the light, blew out the candle.

"I need to make a call.." she said walking towards your landline phone.

The conversation wasn't long, but you couldn't make out what she said either.

She had holed up in the guest room to make the phone call.

The only thing that gave you comfort and a sense of security was the light Abir had turned on, the tears wouldn't stop.

When Abir came back into the living room you were still sitting in your place at the dining table, still crying silently.

You tried to read Abir's facial expression but it was blank, telling you nothing.

She quietly took the notebook, sat down on the couch and wrote something on a new page.

She left the notebook as she got up.

She disappeared back into the guest room for a moment before coming out with her suitcase.

Without a word, she took the candle from the table and her jacket from the hook on the wall before spotlights momentarily illuminated the kitchen and living room and she opened the front door.

you jumped up

"Abir!" you called after her but she had already disappeared out the door.

You ran after her, ripped open the front door, which had meanwhile closed, and walked barefoot towards the taxi that had already turned in your driveway.

Abir was just getting in.

"Did it work?!" you asked, taking a few more steps towards the taxi and ignoring the pebbles that dug into your feet with every step.

You ignored the beginning rain that fell cold from the sky.

You could see her looking at you before her gaze shifted to the taxi driver and you could read the word 'train station' off of her lips.

After that, the taxi just drove off without Abir giving you an answer.

You ran after the taxi a few meters, yelled at the moving vehicle again asking if it had worked.

But it didn't stop.
