Capítulo 8: Chapter 8: Liyue’s Geo King List

"Baixiaosheng?"

What a strange name, Teiyu thought, with a disdainful snort at the repeating characters.

But he was very interested in Liyue.

The legendary land of the Geo Archon, with customs and traditions that reminded him so much of ancient Earth...

All of this piqued his curiosity, making him think he should take a trip to Liyue someday.

...

Teiyu opened the booklet and saw that it was neatly written in fine calligraphy, with the title Weekly Liyue Geo King List.

And at the top of the list was The Legend of the Condor Heroes.

"What?"

Teiyu was stunned.

He had never submitted his work to Liyue,

so how had it ended up on the list, let alone in the top spot?

Sensing his confusion,

Yae Miko laughed softly, covering her mouth with her hand. "The Liyue Geo King List is the most prestigious ranking for novelists in Liyue."

"Every novelist in Liyue dreams of making it onto Baixiaosheng's Geo King List.

That's because this person doesn't take money or seek fame. They simply want to judge books fairly."

"Liyue's readers trust this reviewer, and every book they recommend becomes a bestseller."

"But how did my book end up on the Geo King List?"

Teiyu was still puzzled.

He had only published The Legend of the Condor Heroes in Inazuma, so how did it get circulated in Liyue?

"Well, you have a certain beautiful and wise woman to thank for that~~~"

Yae Miko smiled playfully, her jade-like legs swaying gently, clearly in a good mood.

Teiyu didn't need her to say it to know she was talking about herself.

Seeing her smug expression, he thought that if she had a tail, it would be wagging proudly by now~~

After all, this cunning fox was very proud of herself. There weren't many women she truly admired.

It turns out,

when he first published The Legend of the Condor Heroes,

Yae Miko had been secretly paying attention and had taken a liking to the novel early on.

With her sharp instincts, she knew

that a traditional wuxia story filled with national loyalty and righteousness wouldn't appeal to Inazuma, which was dominated by light novels and thrill-seeking readers.

But she didn't warn Teiyu and let him fail on his own.

First, because she enjoyed seeing Teiyu struggle and become frustrated, which amused her greatly.

Second, because offering help when someone's down leaves a stronger impression than simply adding to their success.

If you want to snatch a treat from the sneaky cat, you have to use some special tactics.

Yae Miko knew that the people across the sea in Liyue would surely appreciate this novel.

Over there, stories of chivalry, freedom, and swordsmen wandering the martial world were highly cherished.

She had already devised a strategy for promoting The Legend of the Condor Heroes in Liyue.

First, she took a unique approach and didn't start by casually publishing the novel in Liyue.

Instead, she spent money to commission renowned artists to create illustrations.

These high-quality illustrations caused a sensation in Liyue.

When people began to wonder who had drawn such exquisite artwork, she still didn't publish the novel.

The first step was to build up people's curiosity.

The second step involved inviting famous storytellers in Liyue to promote the story at various novel stalls.

They would share parts of the story but deliberately leave it unfinished at crucial moments.

When the audience was itching to know what happened next,

the storytellers would tell them that they could only find out by reading the original text of The Legend of the Condor Heroes.

With this method,

anyone interested in the story would naturally pay to read it.

With both tactics working together,

and the strong foundation of the novel's excellent plot,

it became an instant hit, wildly popular.

In Liyue,

it was in constant demand, and everyone loved reading it.

Whether it was someone as old as ninety-nine or as young as someone just learning to walk,

you'd hear people asking each other, "Hey, did you read The Legend of the Condor Heroes today?"

It became a phenomenon, sparking a "Condor Heroes" craze.

Bookstall owners were either busy reprinting it or on their way to do so.

"..."

Teiyu was left speechless. The power of money was terrifying!

And, of course,

there was also Yae Miko's incredible business acumen.

She had calculated everyone's behavior perfectly, making them willingly spend their money. Truly deserving of her reputation as the owner of Yae Publishing House.

As Teiyu continued reading,

he saw that this Baixiaosheng character had written some flattering words about him.

"A masterpiece, undeniably a masterpiece!!!

Dear readers, the literary world of Liyue is finally about to welcome a grandmaster of wuxia. Today, I, Baixiaosheng, sincerely recommend the work The Legend of the Condor Heroes by the author 'Rainy Night, Sword and Umbrella.'

Honestly,

I wasn't initially interested in a work that was promoted so heavily by street storytellers.

But one day,

a colleague of mine said that I was going moldy from working too much and insisted that I go out to enjoy some sunshine.

Despite my protests, they dragged me out to have tea and listen to a storyteller.

At the time, I was quite annoyed.

Why can't they just let me work? Work is also a form of pleasure for me.

"..."

Teiyu scratched his head, feeling like this guy wasn't exactly reliable...

But as I sat at the tea stall,

listening to the storyteller Tian Tiezui, I found myself gradually drawn into the story's exciting plot.

The story begins with the tale of Qiu Chuji, Guo Xiaotian, and Yang Tiexin, three sworn brothers.

To be honest,

starting a story without introducing the main character right away is risky. It requires skillful writing to keep the reader engaged.

Without a strong setup, it's easy for readers to abandon the book halfway through.

But clearly, Mr. Rainy Night didn't have this problem.

The story quickly escalates when Bao Xiruo, Yang Tiexin's wife, discovers an injured soldier, leading to a series of fast-paced events with a large cast of characters.

The twists and turns kept me thoroughly immersed in the story, and I was moved by the blood and honor displayed by Guo Xiaotian and Yang Tiexin.

Guo Xiaotian fought bravely to cover his brother's escape and died in battle.

Yang Tiexin, to save his sister-in-law, tearfully left his pregnant wife behind and was grievously injured, his fate unknown. This gripped the readers' hearts.

And just when I was on the edge of my seat, Tian Tiezui smirked and said to me, "Want to know what happens next? You'll have to buy The Legend of the Condor Heroes to find out."

"Humph, though I was annoyed by his smug face, I still ended up buying the book."

As expected,

the story didn't disappoint. Both wives survived, each carrying their husband's child, which made me even more eager to find out what would happen next.

Would little Guo Jing and little Yang Kang meet? Would Guo Jing avenge his father? Would Yang Tiexin survive? What would happen to the two wives?

...

I won't spoil the rest of the story here. I hope everyone goes out and buys the book to support Mr. Rainy Night.

This Baixiaosheng guy was quite professional, recommending the book without giving away spoilers.

Teiyu nodded approvingly and continued reading.

The next section started with two bold, blackened characters:

Tragedy

I've heard that Mr. Rainy Night in Inazuma has requested that the editor cut the book short due to its poor performance. This cannot happen!!!

I still want to know how the story develops.

I've written a petition to the editor, asking Yae Publishing House not to give up on this book. Let them know that we in Liyue care deeply about this story.

I urge all readers who can to join me in petitioning.

Let Mr. Rainy Night know that the readers in Liyue haven't given up on this book!!!

...

"Here, take a look at these letters of encouragement,"

Yae Miko said, her eyes twinkling with interest as she handed a stack of letters to the blushing Teiyu.

Teiyu opened the letters, finding that most contained words of encouragement.

They urged him to keep writing and not to give up.

Some were more "unusual,"

with readers threatening to come to Inazuma and do the same thing if the book was cut short.

"..."

Teiyu felt his face grow hot,

not expecting that The Legend of the Condor Heroes would be so well-received in Liyue.

He felt both touched and a little guilty.

After all, this book wasn't his original creation.

It was the masterpiece of a grandmaster from another world.

Receiving such praise made him feel unworthy.

But he was also deeply grateful to these passionate readers.

Their genuine love for The Legend of the Condor Heroes and their heartfelt support through petitions and letters truly moved him.
