Capítulo 1: Press Start

The afterlife.

An interesting thought that is born out of human curiosity about their own mortality. Does life truly end after we die? Is there another place where we reside? What is the purpose of living if we are ultimately going to die? These questions may seem meaningless to some people, including myself.

After living through relative poverty and eventually achieving a decent salary, I have learned to take whatever life throws at me. However, I never expected my life to end so suddenly.

A night of drinking to relieve stress from work, a trigger-happy burglar, and a bullet to the head was all it took to end my short life. And now...

"Why I'm I still alive"

.

Six years...

Six years have passed since she began walking among the living once again. Though she was shocked at having her life cut short, she certainly didn't ask for a second chance.

Her first life had been a terrible experience, and she didn't need another one. The idea of it appalled her. She couldn't understand why she was here or what her purpose was.

Should she tell someone? Were there others like her? What kind of world was she in now? Was she the messiah of something? Did she have a heroic purpose in this world? In the end, she never found answers to these questions.

She had to improvise as she went along, and being a transmigrated teenager helped her cover her sudden change in personality as a phase. From there, she simply had to live life as she always had. It WAS and continues to be surreal.

"But as I say 'It is what it is' so no problemo"

"You can change it though? and more importantly pay more attention"

She ignored the oddly human sound of the wind as she thought more about her situation, trying to make a quick recap of events in her head.

Certainly, she had been reincarnated or more like transmigrated into the body of a young lady, a rich one at that. She had all her necessities taken care of, food, water, and some entertainment. She didn't have to starve for a few days or be completely neglected. She didn't even have to hunt for food in this life—if one considered hunting small birds with slingshots a form of hunting.

So far, life had been great. She went to high school, socialized the right amount to not be an outcast—unlike in her previous life— and now she was pursuing her dreams, which had not changed.

Having lived through great pains and tribulations, she found that she didn't have high ambitions, just enough money, an internet connection, and good food would make her happy. So now that she had to find a job, she would use her somewhat useful coding abilities to find a stable job and remain there as long as possible.

Simply, stable, and something she enjoyed!

"Yep, my plan is clear, I'm truly a genius!"

"No it isn't, and no you aren't, especially when you haven't said anything yet"

Resident transmigrator and internal monologue master, Victoria Servantes, frowned as she looked at the man who addressed her. Unlike her, he was expressionless, with a cold face looking directly at her.

Albert Servantes, her stepbrother, was quite an individual, far different from her. He was a man with both responsibility and ability. With a cold face and a handsome appearance to boot, he would make all the women in his workplace swoon and make them cry with shame when he ignored them completely.

Unlike her, he was the son of her stepmother, while she was the daughter of her father, united to simply combine their family business into one, a conglomerate of sorts, based on a clothing brand and costume creation.

When she received the news that she would have a brother, she was interested. She had interacted with him on multiple occasions due to living in the same house, but she always kept her distance. Mostly out of sheer boredom.

The man did not do anything remotely interesting. He was always obedient, always responsible, and always better than her.

And she welcomed it.

She simply dumped the responsibility of being a rich second-generation onto him and dipped out of there!

Well, she did help him, after all, their father was rather strict and distant, so it was hard to talk to him or make him trust his stepson in his business ideas. So, she would always push in favor of her brother's plans if she found them plausible, which was most of the time.

This treatment of just being family made Albert both appreciate and hate her stepsister. She was lazy as hell, had no ambitions, and never tried anything more than necessary.

And yet, she was kind and useful to him. Never held grudges over becoming the heir, never diminish his importance, and even helped him understand certain things about the business that she was more familiar with.

He honestly had come to care for her as family, even if his mother was always on edge with the girl for being a potential heir. So Albert had a good relationship with his stepsister, even if she often wandered into her head a bit too often.

Victoria thought about the good times and how smart her stepbrother was and simply smiled.

"The family business is in good hands"

"I know, there in my hands instead of yours, so that was obvious"

"See? That's cool, anyways I'm going to go for my interview, I'm an unstoppable object!"

Albert simply sighed at his sister while nodding, he only tried to stop her since she could technically live off simply leeching from the family, but she decided to get a job.

It wasn't anything bad, but he would like to get her at least a job with the family, but it seemed that it simply wasn't meant to be.

Well, he would always help her no matter what, that's what family is for according to her, and he knew she would never take advantage of him out of sheer laziness.

"Alright then, take care, call me if something wrong happens"

"Sure! Ciao later Al!"

"It's 'see you later' Ria, and ciao it's used alone"

"Whatever!"

After waving goodbye, Victoria nodded to herself and went to take a taxi. Taking a step inside with a giddy look she simply told the driver where to go.

Today was a good day to get a job in the parallel world!
